Just as a point of information for the benefit of a non-U.S. Freeper - is it usual for members of the U.S. military to go armed when off-base and off-duty on home territory? Once off duty, do they have the same right to carry as civilians, or is that overriden by military regulations? For UK military to go armed when off-base would not, presumably, require any general change in the gun laws, though I suspect it would be resisted for all sorts of reasons.
Maybe if they had reacted intelligently after the last headchopping incident by a bearded savage, this would not be a problem.
