In standard western Armies, one of the goals is to train the troops to eventually become the leaders. Some small-unit training included pretending all the Officers and non-Coms were killed, and YOU had to form a defense line (I did this a couple of times when I was in the National Guard). This trained even the lowliest private to develop some leadership and initiative skills.
This is impossible in Arab armies. Senior officers are terrified that their junior officers and non-coms will learn enough to eventually overthrow them. Thus, they treat their enlisted like dirt and don't expect them to show any intelligence or initiative (As an aside, this has helped Americans in wars because Authoritarian countries can't comprehend that OUR Enlisted men and women are often as smart as our officers and Non-coms).

The first cousin marriage thing is an outgrowth of polygamy. When one man can have many wives - many men will have none. The men who have no none - and never will - are the people who become 'fodder' for radical Muslims. They're the disposable ones of Islam - and yeah, the " livin' well Eloi" - the 'haves' in Muslim culture - would like nothing better than for Americans to come in an kill a bunch of them. The problem is Muslim families will produce more surplus men faster than we can kill them off. Aside from the creepy ethics involved. The 'surplus men' thing isn't an accident. It's part of the 'religion'... and the misery involved helps spread that belief..
And you ask - what does that have to do with marrying first cousins?
Women are prized property - and families keep their women to save them from the horrors of becoming "Morlocks" (radical muslims)... so it's first cousins and if a man dies his wife becomes the wife of his brother. This is a very sad and cruel religion. Think the worst of illegal Mormon cult spinoffs... (Jefferes?) Cults that allow men to have unlimited young women always have to dump young men.
