Buzz builds around Walker

The Beltway is abuzz over Scott Walker.

The Wisconsin governor is the talk of Washington Republicans following his much-heralded speech in Iowa last weekend during the state’s first 2016 candidate cattle call.

Walker’s strong showing in the Hawkeye State is reverberating back in D.C., where donors, kingmakers and lawmakers in both houses of Congress are talking about him as a top-tier candidate in the crowded GOP field.

“He should feel pretty good about this past weekend,” said Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), who organized the Iowa Freedom Summit. “So far, this week has been pretty good for Scott Walker.” The governor has been making moves toward a White House run, hiring some top GOP staffers and launching a new fundraising organization on Tuesday. He’ll be in Washington on Friday to deliver a high-profile speech to a leading conservative organization, his first public speech in D.C. since his 2014 reelection win.

Walker has long drawn praise from disparate parts of his party, though questions have lingered about his charisma.

Hard-line conservatives love his high-profile battles with Wisconsin’s unions and successful push for legislation on a number of their priorities, including lower taxes, tightened restrictions on abortions and loosened ones on guns.

“He seems like a great guy, and he gave a tremendous speech,” said Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), a leading Tea Party conservative who also spoke at the Iowa confab.

Establishment-leaning Republicans love that he’s shown how to govern and win three elections in four years in a state that usually leans Democratic.

“He’s got a great record in Wisconsin, and I think he’s great,” said Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), a member of Senate GOP leadership.

Walker caved and gave in when the Courts allowed queers to marry in Wisconsin. That is a deal breaker.

Ever hear of the three separate branches of government? You are starting to sound like Obama.

“Besides that, I’ll be very reluctant to trust anyone who doesn’t have a voting record in DC. We’ve been stung too many times. “

Reagan didn’t have a voting record in DC. who besides W stung us? Ghwb had a DC voting record, as did Ford.

“I know that Ted Cruz recognizes Scott Walker as a fellow constitutional conservative and I don’t think that we will see him attacking Governor Walker. I hope that Scott Walker has the same wisdom and does not begin to engage “

I think both of them are entitled to highlight their advantages. Walker will highligh his executive experience and his ability to get things done. Cruz will emphasize his principles and foreign policy experience, and let others make the case he’s a real smart guy.

This kind of differentiation may verge on attacks at times, but would be in Bounds, in my opinion.

His governing abilities are documented. The only question was could he sell them. He looks good speaking to fellow republicans. To the Marxists/unions he is the most hated man in America. He is on the top of my list. “

In WI, he was able to make the froth at the mouth, drop the mask, make themselves look foolish, and make people tired of them.

“same here, so long as Walker is also conservative on social issues too unlike Rand paul and the liberaltarians and RINOs we have”

Defunded Planned Parenthood and five of their operations closed down. And Wisconsin ain’t TX. Lefties in WI put pro-pp signs on their front lawns.

Who besides W stung us?

The ones who ran after W, McCain and Romney, were an attempt to get another RINO backstabber past constitutional conservatives. After W, it isn't working anymore. Which is the point we're making...we want a PROVEN constitutional conservative to win. A guy who cuts taxes and busts unions on one hand but subsidizes stadiums and supports the invasion of the US on the other doesn't have a stellar resume to start out with. Forget Walker; there are better choices.

How about Cruz/Jindal? Bring in two large ethnic minorities to get the 'pubs the boost they say they need. That would be two ethnic groups that tend toward conservative. If the Chamber of Commerce crowd thinks the dems message is a better choice for the vote, so what.

Speaking of “getting stung,” I’m always thinking back to some of the issues that first led me to be an unwavering Republican voter. Three of the biggest included the GOP’s stance against judicial activism, its support of federalism/states rights, and the expressed importance of family values.

Yet, here in plain view, all THREE of these issues have been intersecting in the most egregious way in my lifetime as the tyrannical courts have been imposing homo-marriage onto the country... and the GOP has been quiet as church mice. Hence, when I see someone like Walker give such a pat, cowed statement of surrender, I’m just not impressed. This is not the kind of person I’m likely to rally around. But it’s not just Walker, but the GOP as a whole. I find it difficult to trust any of them. Most seem to either be spineless cowards, or they’ve fully cast their chips in with the corrupt and deviant.

So states rights mean nothing to you?

Or are you in favor of queer marriages?

A guy who cuts taxes and busts unions on one hand but subsidizes stadiums and supports the invasion of the US on the other doesn't have a stellar resume to start out with.

Palin was willing to pay for a stadium in Wasilla. That's a local issue. Walker also got voter ID, concealed Carry and defunded PP. A stadium in Milwaukee is small potatoes by comaprison.

If immigration is your primary issue, than yes, Cruz or Santorum would be more in line with your main issues. In Wisconsin, it really isn't a big deal; and Walker was speaker in an abstract way. He hasn't done anything in WI to bring in more illegals (e.g. drivers' licenses, sanctuary ciies)

BTW, I'm fine with Cruz OR Walker. I just don't want to see Cruz OR Walker torn down with overblown, misleading or exagerrated rhetoric. I'm not big on Cruz' support for H1-Bs, or his Goldman-Sach's wife, or Jindal's support for making birth conrtrol pills OTC. With all three, I think that have a lot right, and we can keep the pressure on to keep them that way (like with W and Harriet Miers).

Don’t knock them Ivy Leaguers.

Ted Cruz has degrees from Princeton AND Harvard.

Just saying.

The two of them on one ticket would make a formidable duo, likely winning, and hold the best chance to actually do something that could start to revive our country.

Agreed.

I think it’s going to be Cuomo for the Commie ticket.

Agreed but I’d prefer Walker on top with his executive experience. Cruz would be better suited as VP and president of the senate.

If Cruz or Walker could win then they should set out to marginalize the GOPE into oblivion. If they win and serve for 8 yrs. and do not root out the liberals of the GOP it will quickly revert into the squishy pile of slime it is now.

Walking the walk’s the hard part - and Walkers got that down cold. He knows how to get things done.

The ‘easy’ part is taking the talk... and that’s where he’s weak...

Walker’s the opposite of an incompetent blowhard... which might make it hard to get elected.

Really?

Personally I don’t see anyone challenging hillary, except for a few nominal triers.

I think she will win every primary. But I could be wrong....

How about Cruz/Jindal?

Cruz is so much more suited to be in the Senate. He would be the ideal Senate Majority Leader for years to come.

Walker is capable of handling our worst problem, the public employee unions. The public employee unions are the power behind the Marxists. Once we break them, everything else will be much easier to fix.
