Blue Dot for Obama Prompts Red Nebraska to Revisit Electoral College Rules
NYT ^ | JAN. 31, 2015 | MITCH SMITH

LINCOLN, Neb. - If this state had an official color, it would most certainly be red. Football fans don scarlet sweatshirts each game day, red meat is a dietary staple and, for decades, Republican presidential candidates filled Nebraska's borders on the electoral map with their party's name.

Use a link from this google search to bypass NYT's pay-wall.

The Congressional District/Senatorial method of elector selection is the fairest way to apportion the votes.

The winner of each Congressional District gets the vote assigned to that district and the overall winner within the state gets the remaining two votes assigned to the state as a “bonus.”

The voters within each district are not “disenfranchised” by feeling that their votes don’t count [as it is with the winner-take-all system], while the voters [collectively within the state] have their will expressed by the award of the final two votes to the state’s victor.

There is nothing illegal, immoral or undignified about using google to bypass a paywall.

The New York Times can easily block google links past their paywall if they wish, and I highly encourage them to do so.

Do you know why they don't do it?

Called the ‘Mundt’ plan I believe.
I’ve liked it for years.
‘The winner of each Congressional District gets the vote assigned to that district and the overall winner within the state gets the remaining two votes assigned to the state as a “bonus.”’

Primarily because of the increase in voting age Latinos in the more urban states, the Democrats currently have an electoral college advantage. The next Democrat candidate could get to the required 270 electoral votes by winning only 14 states won by Obama in 2012, plus the District of Columbia.
California: 55 Electoral votes (60% Obama in 2012)
New York: 29 (63% Obama)
Florida: 29 (50% Obama)
Illinois: 20 (58% Obama)
Pennsylvania: 20 (52% Obama)
Ohio: 18 (51% Obama)
Michigan: 16 (54% Obama)
New Jersey: 14 (58% Obama)
Virginia: 13 (51% Obama)
Washington: 12 (53% Obama)
Massachusetts: 11 (61% Obama)
Maryland: 10 (62% Obama)
Minnesota: 10 (53% Obama)
Wisconsin: 10 (53% Obama)
District of Columbia: 3 (91% Obama)
Total: 270 by 14 states & D.C.

Obama also won in Colorado (9), Connecticut (7), Delaware (3), Hawaii (4), Iowa (6), Maine (4), Nevada (6), New Hampshire (4), New Mexico (5) Oregon (7), Rhode Island (4), and Vermont (3).

I also use Adblock Plus so that I never see any ads on the Interwebs. And I record all the TV shows I watch and use MCE Buddy to remove the commercials.

Heh.

There is nothing wrong with either of those things.

But using a link that avoids the pay wall is stealing.

But its OK, because you don’t want to pay for them.

Real conservative values there.

I imagine you think they WANT you to steal their property.

I am not going to get into a big thing here. I simply want to go on record that avoiding a paywall and announcing it is unethical and immoral.

Its no different than holding the back door open at a local store.

Its not different than the gimmie-dats in Ferguson. Except we are white conservatives with a computer.

You can disagree, but it doesn’t make it so.

Well, considering how much INTENTIONAL DAMAGE they’ve done, and continue to do, to our Republic ...hell yes. Anything to help them on their way to bankruptcy is OK in my opinion. The send you a solicitation for a subscription with a “pre-paid” return envelope. then return that envelop empty and let them pay a few pennies for it. EVERY drop of financial “blood” we drain from them helps.

You didn't answer my question. Here it is again.

Q. Do you know why the New York Times doesn't block Google-link paywall bypass?

Are you smart enough to figure it out?

I agree with what you said except for Ohio and Florida. In the next presidental election, Obama will nit be running so the black turnout will be lower. So for 2016, both states lean Republican and if Jeb wins.the Republican nomination, Florida will be a given.

Of course I did. You think they don’t care.

I said, it doesn’t matter.

If you are intentionally bypassing a pay wall, and then publish the link you are encouraging stealing.

I know it sounds petty. I know you don’t care. And its not worth going much further.

A little thief or big thief. In the end, if you are knowingly avoiding paying for a pay service...and broadcasting that fact, you are a thief.

They don't block it because if they did they would literally lose 95% of their traffic overnight and be reduced to blog territory.

Like I said, I highly encourage the New York Times to do so.

It is the increasing Latino vote, not the black vote that is my primary concern. If Hillary Clinton is the Democrat nominee, the increase in the liberal women’s vote will offset any decrease in the black vote.
But yes, I agree that it might take a different Democrat more than 14 states to reach 270.

There are three basic systems as state can use, with some degree of vaitiaon in each:

1. Winner-take-all, the system most states use. If you carry the state, you get all the electoral votes.

2. The district system, which Nebraska and Maine use. If you carry the state, you get the two “at large” electors, but the candidate that carries each congressional district gets that district’s elector.

3. Proportional representation, which I don’t believe any state uses. Simply put, if you get 51 percent of the votes, you get a slight majority of the electors. if you get 60 percent, you get 3/5 of the electors (or as close as they can get to that.)

Constitutionally, it is up to the legislature of each state to determine how electors shall be chosen. (They could just do it themselves, if they so chose.)

The 99-102% precinct turnout so typical of the Philadelphia election process cannot possibly be due to fraud. It is more than likely, a simple case of the extreme enthusiasm of a public spirited citizenry.
