Icelanders will soon be able to publicly worship at a shrine to Thor, Odin and Frigg with construction starting this month on the island’s first major temple to the Norse gods since the Viking age. Worship of the gods in Scandinavia gave way to Christianity around 1,000 years ago but a modern version of Norse paganism has been gaining popularity in Iceland.

But some people, ( like those crazy Muslims in the middle east), aren't going to be happy until everyone subscribes to *their* belief system, and their particular sect. Is that your agenda as well, or can you learn to deal with the fact that a truly free society shouldn't require a belief in some supernatural being/s?

Maybe it's not about a "free society." Maybe it's about the Kingdom of G-d on earth (literally, not figuratively).

Unfortunately, Orthodox Jews aren't yet banging on doors distributing tracts about the Noachide Laws (though I hope they will soon). But don't worry; no one can "make" you observe them . . . until Mashiach comes. MWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!!!!!!!

“Your comments are quite silly, lacking intelligence, knowledge or reason.”

-A presupposition isn't a statement of fact.
-do you understand that?
I challenged your so called sarcastic “respect”:

“I respect the atheists more.”

You quite clearly were stating that you have a hierarchy of respect for a variety of belief systems, vs non-believers.
Do you deny that?

You basically equated paganism with non-believers.

I suggest you pick up a book about pagan winter festivals and see where that Christmas tree, yule log, gifts, and a number of other supposed Christian *traditions*, and find out where those traditions come from.
I'll give you a clue. They were all pagan traditions *first*.

And I don't want to be involved in any belief system that revolves around a human sacrifice for some promised eternal “salvation”.

The Bible is specific in declaration that the character Jesus was a blood sacrifice for gods anger.

Do you deny that Jesus was a very clearly a human blood sacrifice?

Paganism was full of blood sacrifice as well.

Wow, that's profound. A billion dead people before you have thought the same thing.

Here comes your “Mashiac” now.
Oh wait, that's just Elijah, waving bye bye... He ain't coming back.

Just curious, do you hear voices in your head?
There's actually a medical diagnosis for that.

Your debate tactics certainly are.
Try finding an actual intelligent response.

I didn’t know we were having a debate.

I prefer discussion anyhow.

So, ok. What point are you trying to make?

I simply asked you a question to your post to someone else on #80:
-------------------------------------

>” I respect the atheists more.”

“Then you respect arrogant, Christian haters.”

To which I asked:
Where do you get such silly ideas about people?

I and many decent folks just like me, no longer believe in any god or gods; be it the Nordic gods of my ancestors, the Hindu gods, the pagan gods, Egyptian gods, the tooth fairy, Santa Claus, or any other supernatural deities.

I'm guessing you don't believe in any of the above gods either... I've just taken it one god further then you in unbelief.

Although I will admit I used to fervently believe in a Yaweh, the crazy Muslims were the final straw for me, since they clearly believe in the old testament story of Abrahams sons, Isaac and Ishmael. They fervently believe they are the rightful heirs of Abraham. That is where all this current trouble in the world has started, in my opinion, and I'm done with it.

And while I no longer believe in any god at all, I do resent when people of various belief systems make accusations of hatred against me and my family and friends, simply because of unbelief, and I'm not going to sit idly by and be falsely aligned, or slandered.

Two questions, and then I'll leave you be, as you're probably getting ready to go to a church to worship your version of god, while I'm going to spend a pleasant morning worshipping nothing:

1: Would the world be better off if a billion Muslims were all non-believers in any god, or as fervent believers in their Allah?

2: Would you respect Muslims more, or less as non-believers in any god, or as fervent believers in their Allah?

Those are not trick questions.

Have a pleasant Sunday.
Regards.

By comparison with the Vatican's bizarre idolatry of preserving severed body parts ( and other so called relics) of early Christians, I'd say this modern day Icelandic paganism is pretty tame:

See this article from same news agency below:

‘From St Peter's bones to severed heads: Christian relics on display’

http://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/jonathanjonesblog/2013/nov/18/st-peters-bones-christian-relics

From the article:

“Once, the western world was full of relics. The bones and skin, fingernails and even heads of saints were preserved, bought and sold, stolen and cherished. Relics of holy people and of Jesus Christ were at the heart of medieval Christianity.

Today many relics have been discredited. Museums display empty reliquaries, crafted from gold and silver and laden with jewels – but bereft of the body parts that once gave them meaning.

Still, some relics are still cherished. They have survived skeptics, scientists and in some cases detailed exposure, to be revered as holy objects of awe.

As the Vatican puts the bones of St Peter on display, here are the top 10 extant Christian relics, from holy shroud to a sacred head.”

The mummified head of St. Catherine
Head of St John the Baptist
The Finger of St Thomas
The Tongue of St Anthony of Padua
Blood of Saint Januarius
Holy Shroud of Turin
The Holy Foreskin:
".It is said when the young Jesus Christ was circumcised, his foreskin was preserved. In the middle ages it became a much coveted relic and several churches claimed to own part or all of it. The foreskin was held to have great powers. However, the various relics of it were discredited by the end of the 18th century."

-----------------------------------------------

This grisly stuff is tantamount to grave robbery, and smacks of necrophilia. It's far more bizarre and disgusting, in my opinion, then any Icelandic attempt to preserve their cultural tradition, which is obviously what they're doing.

“while I’m going to spend a pleasant morning worshipping nothing”

There’s a funny gag on the Simpsons where Ed Begley Jr is droning a little go-cart-like contraption with a helmet on his head and he says, “I’m driving a car fully powered by my smug sense of self satisfaction”.

It is hilarious. Your comment for someone reason reminded me of that.

“1: Would the world be better off if a billion Muslims were all non-believers in any god, or as fervent believers in their Allah?”

Probably better as Muslim believers.

“2: Would you respect Muslims more, or less as non-believers in any god, or as fervent believers in their Allah?”

That’s an inane question. It would depend on many factors and would be something that could only be evaluated on an individual basis.

“Those are not trick questions.”

No, they are not but the second is inane.

You object to my remark about arrogant Christian haters, then go on to mock something faith related you assume to be true. Typical.

I may well think a primitive belief system that required a human blood sacrifice for absolution of guilt is silly and foolish, but I don’t hate you, or your fellow practitioners... as long as you don’t try to make me go along with your rituals or practices.
-Seeing as how our U.S. Constitution never once mentioned a requirement to accept a god or gods.
Freedom and all that, ya know? :-)

-Well, I'm happy for you, that you find meaningful substance in a teenage cartoon.
Perhaps you should research the creator of the Simpson's (Matt Groenings) religious views. Newsflash: Groening doesn't believe in a God.

1: Would the world be better off if a billion Muslims were all non-believers in any god, or as fervent believers in their Allah?
Your answer: ”Probably better as Muslim believers.”

-so a belief in a blood thirsty pirate cult, is in your mind, better than *no belief* in any god... and now I have a glimpse into your mindset. As long as someone still believes in some sort of god, no matter how bloodthirsty and violent that belief system is, its better than an absence of a *belief system*, no matter how peaceful. That's quite a mindset you have.

That’s an inane question. It would depend on many factors and would be something that could only be evaluated on an individual basis.

Your foray into the many *shades of gray* are duly noted.

“so a belief in a blood thirsty pirate cult, is in your mind, better than *no belief* in any god”

I didn’t say that, nor was that your question.

You are incapable of maintaining a rational train or thought, or of knowing basic facts.

This is why I asked if you were in Junior High.

Better get back to your Simpson cartoon, sonny.
