Rand Paul: Most vaccines should be ‘voluntary’ By ADAM B. LERNER 2/2/15 2:42 PM EST Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) waded into the debate over vaccinations Monday, telling conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham that he thinks most vaccines should be “voluntary.” Paul, an ophthamologist and likely 2016 White House hopeful, expressed particular concern over mandatory vaccinations for sexually transmitted diseases. He criticized former Texas Gov. Rick Perry for his executive order mandating that Texas children receive the HPV vaccine. “I’m not anti-vaccine at all,” Paul said, but “I think that’s a personal decision.”

From the article, ““I was annoyed when my kids were born that they wanted them to take Hepatitis B in the neo-natal nursery, and it’s like, that’s a sexually transmitted disease,” said the Kentucky Republican, adding that he had his kids vaccinations staggered over time so they wouldn’t receive ten injections at once.”

Why is the CDC advocating new born babies be immunized to protect them against a sexually transmitted disease? There is a real problem when Government agencies promote vaccinations that just don’t make sense.

Ah yes, the measles out break that most likely came from illegal aliens now being blamed on anti-vaxxers.

Rand’s completely wrong. This kind of absolutist individual right’s approach is utter garbage. You’re a part of society. Your life and death don’t just affect you.

No man is an island.

This man is fatuous. Vaccination IS voluntary. You just aren't allowed to expose your infectious child to other children in school, public schools, where pathogens are rife.

Unless you're an illegal alien, however, then you can go anywhere and be as sick as you please, and expose everyone to third world germs.

This Disneyland thing is crap. There's a reason why California and Florida are spreading measles, and it isn't Disneyland.

Vaccinations do not equal autism. Those who believe this are being lied to. The science is available and easy to understand.

The reason vaccines are blamed for mysterious conditions and ailments is that so many people are vaccinated. It's like blaming a preacher for your heart attack, just because the chest pains started after church...

The Left will eat their own rather than admit to error. Rand isn’t attacking the illegal hordes, just defending the anti-vaccine crowd.

So, vaccines, which involve a person out of your control putting a needle into your body or your child’s body, should be coerced...but...

Enforcing the law to keep people from non-US-soil from crossing into our country without our permission, illegally in fact, and bringing in diseases and not-vaccinated, should be optional? That is, optional to enforce laws already in existence...

There are many reasons why people choose to not get vaccines. I am a believer in vaccination but did not get my small pox shot until I joined the military. This was due to a skin condition that I had as a child.

People have the right to decide their own health care.

What vaccines are mandatory? I mean, outside of the armed forces?

Even Rick Perry’s “mandate” only applied to people who wanted to attend public schools, so it wasn’t actually mandatory.

You state that “Vaccinations do not equal autism. Those who believe this are being lied to. The science is available and easy to understand.”
So you think Vaccines are safe and we should just continue to feel safe about them because the CDC says they are safe?

How many physicians are aware of the “CDC paralysis” described by a CDC expert-Whistleblower?
Link to Press Release of William Thompson CDC Whistleblower
http://www.morganverkamp.com/august-27-2014-press-release-…/
Following are quotes of what William Thompson has said regarding the Autism/Vaccine connection
“Oh my God, I did not believe that we did what we did, but we did. It’s all there… This is the lowest point in my career, that I went along with that paper. I have great shame now when I meet families of kids with autism, because I have been part of the problem.”
“We’ve missed ten years of research because the CDC is so paralyzed right now by anything related to autism. They’re not doing what they should be doing because they’re afraid to look for things that might be associated.”
Additional quotes and information on this problem are available here:

“Why is the CDC advocating new born babies be immunized to protect them against a sexually transmitted disease?”

Diseases that are sexually transmitted are also commonly transmitted to newborns as they are in the birth canal, so perhaps that is why?

“Ah yes, the measles out break that most likely came from illegal aliens now being blamed on anti-vaxxers.”

It is the fault of loony left liberal anti-Vaxxers.

Are you one?

If so, why?

It is a litmus test for being liberal and brain damaged.

The reason why they want to give the hep vaccine in the nursery is for public health reasons only. There is a captive audience in the nursery, and it is easier for the government to vaccinate everyone at that time.
I have no children, but all the nurses that I know space their kids vaccination schedule out. If you look at the recommendations, under 15 months, there are up to 5-6 vaccines that is given all at once- at age 2,4, 15 months. That is crazy.
If you are a responsible parent, spacing the vaccines out would be smart.
I do not think newborns need a hep vaccine, that can wait until at least age 13. I have my suspicions about the chickenpox vaccine. I have read that its effectiveness expires as a person grows older. Chickenpox in an older person can be deadly. I think that this will be apparent in 30 years, when chicken pox emerges in previously vaccinated children.
It would be nice if the CDC changed the schedule to a more spaced out one, there might be more compliance.

Bull malarkey! Your statement about “larger part of society” and “no man is an island” smacks of socialism.

Looking for the common denominator re Autism's increasing #s is the basis for concern by many.

Might also be interesting to track the escalation of Alzheimer's when annual flu shots were introduced into the adult population.
