Yeah, that’s why I said Oklahoma. I was in Oregon for many years, so it was different to see it this way in Oklahoma ... :-) ...
Aaron and Melissa Klein were also investigated for unlawful communication of future intention to discriminate based on sexual orientation due to past media interviews during which they discussed the situation and their faith-based opposition to homosexuality, though they will not be punished for speaking out on the issue.
wow, the homosexuals really love freedom!!!!!!!!!!!!/s
Expecting principled behavior out of that group of strutting loud mouths?
Watch for Act Two, where they put the Christian couple in a cage and light them on fire.
yes but you can as a busines owner designate special services, ie stuff they don’t do every day, and either say you don’t have the skills/training required to accomodate gays,or you can but that’s their more advanced/special services. but you,d be happy to refer them to another place that does.
if planned parenthood can refer clients for adoptions and mammograms - both things they say they do for clients but actually never do, so can any other busness.
half the “denominations” plus sizeable dissenters in others are happy about it.
they need to contact liberty counsel or alliance defense foundation.
Just tell them “I’ll do it, but when I do cakes with a homosexual theme my hand shakes and I get spitting mad.”
Most reasonable people would consider $150,000 an excessive fine.
It would seem that a cake baker's work is really a form of artistic expression, and thus entitled to first amendment protection which should preclude the public accommodations claim against the bakers.
An artistic cake decorators work differs in nature from that of say, a simple restaurant serving food, or someone providing hotel rooms to rent.
The simple test of the public accommodations argument should be if the same Oregon commission will require every bakery to produce decorative cakes with any statement whatsoever on them - even statements that are obviously offensive. Because if baking a cake is truly just a public accommodation then any baker should be required to make whatever cake the customer wants. But they are unlikely to reach that point, in much the same way that they would be unlikely to require, for instance, a photographer to agree to photograph an event which involved activity offensive to the photographer. Or a writer to write about an offensive topic. Or an advertising agency to accept, for example, a customer whose views they found repugnant.
Perhaps dozens of volunteers should set out to ask bakeries all over the city to produce cakes with offensive messages, and carefully document how the bakeries respond. And then share the results, in the form of complaints, to the same commission.
Who is their home church or district or parish? This is a justice issue and that church ...national level should go to bat for them...does it not think God will have their backs?
Since when is private property a “place of public accommodation”? When the Statists say it is.
what if satanists wanted a cake that said jesus sucked on it?
I'm not sure why you chose to post such a vile example, but it illustrates exactly the point I was making. A cake of that sort, or a typical wedding cake is a form of expressive art. Requiring an artist or other person to create such a thing violates their first amendment rights. Requiring someone to create a statement of that sort is quite different from providing a public accommodation, which is what anti-discrimination laws are intended to protect. And thus, the bakery should raise a defense based on their right to not have to make particular statements, even if those statements are embedded in a product they sell.
The only fact that needs to be addressed is this: Who are these arrogant Nazis in the Oregon Bureau of Political Submission? What are their names? How did they get their jobs? And what will it take to throw them out on the street where they belong. Perhaps they could organize a gay pride parade and march in it as androgynous bullies. Find out. Reciprocate. Make their lives a living hell for a change. This is EVIL. You have every right on G-d’s Green Earth to Fight it. This is not optional. It is a Milchomet Mitzvot, a Commanded War. The Decalogue says, “You Shall Honor your Mother and Father.” This means the One Man One Woman Union. You are to Honor that, Defend that, never permit it to be damaged or diminished. Do not fear the tyrants who seek to defile your children and feed them to Molech. This great nation and this good land deserves your best effort. Never Surrender. Fight the good fight and the G-d of Israel will be with you.
Soviet-style bullies! Is there a shortage of bakeries in Oregon we are unaware of??
So are you suggesting they sell them a cake that’s been spit on with squiggly decorations all over them?
what if someone goes to’a doctor and demands they do something for them, and the doctor says no? how can they refuse?
can doctors now drop patients they no longer wish to treat? can they drop patients no longer because the patient is awful to deal with?
cam businesses no longer refuse service to shirtless,/shoeless folks who/want to buy stuf, despite having a business policy against this?
where are business owners in some involuntary contract with every person in the world just because their client base is ‘the general public’?
You suggested the bakery owners and their counsel use every defense available, I suggested one particular tactic.
Good greif pal, what’s the problem?
I was bringing up that if they can do this to the cake people look at all the other examples they’ve put into question.
They’re opening up a big can of worms, was the point.
Wasn’t disagreeing, just if they can force cake bakers into contracts with people they don’t want to do business with, it seems like they sure let other business folks decide which clients they will serve and which ones they won’t.
I mean docs can not treat people just because they don’t want to take their insurance or govt medicare.
But the cake bakers can’t? I was just showing examples of hypocrisy/inconsistency. RHETORICAL questions, not real ones I expected you to answer.
