On February 9th, Florida’s Yulee High School brought the hammer down on a student who offended some of his fellow classmates. The student was reprimanded for his actions after reading the morning announcements over the school’s intercom.
Why?
Upon finishing the announcements, the student added, ‘God Bless America.’
Two atheist students took offense to the statement. A school spokesperson for the Nassau County School District said that the student had gone off script and was being reprimanded:
“It wasn’t part of the scripted morning announcements,” district spokesperson Sharyl Wood said. “The principal took the appropriate steps in speaking with the student and disciplining the student.”
The students, bypassing their principal altogether, went directly to the American Humanist Association, a group that “advocates progressive values and equality for humanists, atheists and freethinkers.” The AHA wrote a letter through a legal arm called the Appignani Humanist Legal Center, even threatening legal action against the school district.

Would the atheists be upset if he said, “God curse America”? If he had been muhamedan, would the atheist have complained that he said, “God bless America”? And what would the American Humanist Association have said/done?

My church (Southern Baptist) supports some mission churches there.

Wonder what the atheists comment would have been if the student had said, as Rev Wright was wont to say, "God **** America." ?

You’re right about that revival.
So long as “going off script” is the offense, and “going off script” is punished content-neutral (all off-scripters get punished and punished equally) the school has a case.
Somehow I don’t believe all those dots will connect.
Why don’t these NEA homos go after students who repeated yell, Oh My God?! Or is that coming?

I’m surprised the atheists don’t go after people for saying “God Bless You” when they sneeze.

In the religion of liberalism, this is the worst sin.
Florida has become a colony of the Northeast and is about to turn permantly blue. My wife and I are considering moving north after retirement so we can get back to the South.
Oh that would be a hate crime.
He should have said, “God bless America, with the exception of those who don’t believe in You.”
