I’m thinking that trapping 300 US Marines might be a mistake.

Call me crazy, but... yeah.

Lost contact = they took off their uniforms and ran for the hills.

More like they joined with ISIS

“Only if Obama ordered them to surrender would this happen.”

You really don’t get it. You seriously believe that if Obama ordered it, 300 Marines would surrender,, to ISIS and certain beheading?
Ask any Marine you can find, or any era. Get back to us.

I wish i was a confident as you that in the last resort your scenario would play out. Unfortunately from what I have seen and know about the US armed forces in the last decade it seems to me more likely that any such crisis would look more like the British at Kabul in what 1841 rather than Thermopylae or the Chosen.

You have no idea how much the services, all of them, have been corrupted by political correctness and legalism. The browbeating of males with traditional attitudes towards the service over ‘rape in the ranks’ as well as the relentless pressure from various ‘thought reform’ type training programs developed to make straight white men in uniform feel a generalized sense of guilt and shame have scarred the services more than anyone can imagine.

I am pretty certain that while this force may number 300 there are about a dozen field grade officers with them . They were all anxious to gild their resumes and pick up another decoration when they signed on. When the rubber hits the road and the flood of confusing, indecisive and just plain ridiculous command guidance comes pouring in from Eucom, FMF Lant and HQ USMC and even further up the chain these staff wallahs will mill about trying to figure out how best to protect their careers and manage to escape this place physically intact. Stupid directions to ‘minimize loss of life (ISIS lives that is) and even disable personal weapons based on what some ‘reliable Iraqi’ says can be worked out is what is likely to go down. Unlike the Philippines in 1942 when direction to the US garrisons in the southern islands were to stand by and await Japanese plenipotentiaries to surrender to there are no friendly native populations for Marines who think surrender to ISIS sucks to flee to.

Dittos to that!!! The brave Men and Women WARRIORS that serve in our Armed Forces are number 1 with me and always will be. My prayers and hope is that they can soon serve under CIC Sarah Palin or Ted Cruz.

One thing hasn’t changed; young men join the Marine Corps to fight, i.e. kill. I think those Marines at al Asad are just fine with making quite a few martyrs.

Zactly.

If I didn’t outright and fully hate any Al Qaeda fighter, I’d feel sorry for them.

Every time the potential event may occur wherein an Embassy is threatened, branch and contingency planning is conducted, with preliminary actions taken to prepare for future courses of action.

This means every threat to a US Embassy is segued by an extraordinary number of actions to prepare for its closure.

Destruction of friendly assets prior to enemy capture is only one of many preliminary tasks considered.

What the adversaries don’t consider is that the number of resources dedicated to the embassy, pale in comparison to the economic, political, religious, intellectual, and military resources which now become focused upon their threats.

Threats to an embassy, real or imagined, simply amplify the focus of all other authorities and powers upon those who have realized such threats. It’s a fool’s game.

Yup, human life means very little to Odungo when there is an agenda to fullfill.

And there’s always another golf game to enjoy after the dirty “work” is done.

‘One thing hasn’t changed; young men join the Marine Corps to fight, i.e. kill. I think those Marines at al Asad are just fine with making quite a few martyrs.’

That is all well and good but US military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan have been relentlessly intimidated as to the consequences of violating Rules of Engagement. While some GYSGT might say ‘Yes Sir’ with his fingers metaphorically crossed when it comes to 19 and 20 year old PVT’s and PFC’s who are authoritatively told that ROE’s that require no return fire unless each instance is specifically approved by a field grade officer at the TOC it is a different matter. This is a big base and the Iraqis are mostly likely to (a) flee or (b) be covert ISIS types. The enemy will infiltrate, snipe and constantly keep US forces under some kind of fire. The sort of ROE’s the people BHO has populated the ranks of the higher staffs and command structures with are likely to be of the ‘no unnecessary (read any) infliction of casualties on the indigenous population’ . The men at the point of the spear will remember the blood and thunder lectures on how people go to Leavenworth for life for violating ROE’s and doing a ‘bad shoot’. Think of the consequences of the demoralizing environment BHO and his flunkies have brought to the services.

ISIS is ISIS,, not the VC, ...or the NVA.

True. Gen. Giap was a smart commander; he understood guerrilla and asymmetrical warfare.

ISIS understands brutality and goat rape.
