Scott Walker: Obama Made Me More Of An Immigration Hardliner
talkingpointsmemo.com ^ | 2/20/15 | Daniel Strauss

Since Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) has been making serious moves toward running for president in 2016, he's modified his rhetoric on immigration reform. In the past, Walker focused his arguments on fixing the nation's broken immigration system and figuring out a way to properly incorporate the millions of immigrants living in the country illegally. Now, the Wisconsin governor's comments are far more focused on his opposition to "amnesty" and the importance of border security.

As Walker has begun gearing up toward running for president in 2016, he's been dogged by an interview he did in 2013 with The Wausau Daily Herald editorial board where he voiced support for a pathway to citizenship. Walker on Monday went on Fox News to say that he was misquoted by the Daily Herald and has always said "repeatedly I oppose amnesty."

"I think we're a nation of immigrants, but we're also a nation of laws. We should have a legal way for people to come into this country either for work or for citizenship, just like we have for generations," Walker told Fox News' Bret Baier. "Part of that deal is we need to make sure we have a border that's secure, not just for immigration reasons, but as I mentioned, for national security."

He didn't go into much more detail in the interview.

That comment sparked a blistering column from Daily Herald engagement editor Robert Mentzer who included the full immigration remarks of Walker's interview with the editorial board.

Walker sounds just like Mario Rubio... before he got elected.

” Same tack McCain has taken over multiple election cycles.”

McCain was at it again yesterday.

I think union wages are not the biggest issue for companies. Union rules are far more of an issue. Companies can handle higher wages pretty easily. But labor flexibility is far more important. Most companies create a process and then change it, evolve it, shrink it or grow it. If unions did not stand in the way, or slow down the modern adaptation of a company, I would think many companies would not mind the higher salaries.

I just retired as a CEO of a public company. And I can tell you that costs are a simple issue that is easily handled. There are input costs, labor costs, energy costs, communication costs, administration and healthcare costs. These go up and down all the time. And we handle them. But what we spend most of our time doing, is adapting to the market place to bring in more revenue. We compete to stay relevant. And we need to change constantly. Dr. Edward Deming pointed out that companies change or die.

Unions want to control change. They want to get paid to accept change. And they want a voice in the change. This puts a CEO at a distinct disadvantage from a CEO that can evolve more quickly. If steel costs go up, a CEO deals with it. If Labor costs go up, a CEO deals with it. But if a CEO can’t adapt to the market. The CEO goes where he can adapt. Or the company slowly dies.

Walker is about as true a conservative as there is. He has been conservative from the very start. And he fought harder than anyone to meet his campaign promises. He was spit at. His family and parents were stalked and threatened. He was even slugged and pushed on camera and blocked from entering his office.

You guys are talking about talking points. Don’t vote for the guy who says the right things. Walker actually does it through more adversity than any other republican I have seen. There are lots of republican talkers. But when it comes to walking the talk, he has been the only Walker.

So far, I am impressed with Walker. Some of the left has come out early hating and guns blazing for him and he has not yet walked into their traps.

Now you are projecting. You have no idea of my stance on immigration. Personally I am further to the right of most people.

But what I am protesting here is the false tearing down of a good man based on what his enemies claim he said, or based on inflammatory headlines that are not supported by the facts. Walker could be clearer, that is true. My comment was that some folks here are not going to change their minds regardless of what anyone says.

And it appears to me that they are so tied to their horse that they refuse to consider any other option, to the point of making false claims about any other option. I've seen third graders behave this way. I don't expect true conservatives to act like emotional liberals.

Walker is lining up for a big battle with the EPA here in Wisconsin next as he’s correctly pointed out that government regulation is a real job strangler here in the State.

Checking the list off one at a time.

TPM is the Demonrat propaganda arm that sends out daily emails to their minions so they are all on the same page on what to say, and who to attack.

The RATS got their marching orders to attack and tear down Walker. I think several that post here get those daily memos.

Its amazing to read some of the posts here.

Suddenly Walker is a “hold your nose” sell out candidate.

"I think we're a nation of immigrants, but we're also a nation of laws. We should have a legal way for people to come into this country either for work or for citizenship, just like we have for generations,"

What a load of horse puckey. We already do. Illegal aliens have decided the law doesn't apply to them. Now, they have their reasons for doing so. That doesn't mean they should be indulged.

Sorry you broke the rules on this thread,

The only things you can pull out of the past are episodes of Walker being a purported sellout to conservative principles.

;)

All you have to do is go to the link and read the author's bio to know what a leftist fraud this article is. For those who don't want to give TPM a hit, I copied it:

Daniel Strauss is a reporter for Talking Points Memo. He was previously a breaking news reporter for The Hill newspaper and has written for Politico, Roll Call, The American Prospect, and Gaper's Block. He has also interned at Democracy: A Journal of Ideas and The New Yorker. Daniel grew up in Chicago and graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in History. At Michigan he helped edit Consider, a weekly opinion magazine.

Many of the posters on this thread have sucked this up as the truth, and none of them know this is a leftist hit piece.

I know.

: )

Soon we need to go over all the fights he’s won since that siege on the state capitol.

He just keeps on ticking.

In other words, Walker is a johnny-come-lately on enforcement of immigration law and border security

Ok with me. I really don’t think that a Governor in a mid-western state should have said anything about immigration to start with....but he did. I could care less what his thoughts are......his actions are to not have any amnesty or immigration nonsense. That is perfect with me.
