To the Editor:
Yet another climate denier letter displaying a scientific illiteracy that is a sad indictment of our educational system: "Humans didn't cause global warming" in the Feb 11 edition of The Sanford Herald. All you have to do is Google "Scientific American global warming" to find out that global warming is an undisputed scientific fact.
Climate scientists know all about previous periods of climate change, that's basic high school science class stuff. They were all caused by something. Scientists call that something a "forcing." They have established that this time the forcing is not any of the previous causes of climate change. It's been proven to be caused by our burning massive amounts of fossil fuels. See the award-winning Skeptical Science website for peer-reviewed climate science data on this.
Why do so many people disbelieve every scientific body in the world and every climate scientist publishing in peer-reviewed science journals (where real scientists show their work and express their ideas)? It's because the fossil fuel industry is fighting for its life and it's fighting dirty, secretly spending millions to spread lies and pseudoscience is right-wing media. (Scientific American, "Dark Money.") They've modeled their denial campaign directly on big tobacco's old denial that smoking causes lung cancer, fake "scientists" and all. (From The De Smog Blog, chosen as one of TIME's 25 best blogs of 2011).
Let's stop listening and (and printing letters from) the misinformed (we see where spreading pseudoscience leads, as measles spreads across our country) and look at solutions to global warming. The main one is to phase out the use of fossil fuels, and that can be very good for our economy, whatever you think of global warming. Most major economists agree, including eight Nobel Prize winners.

The Global Warmunists do not use the method, therefore they do not know a thing.
I would beg their pardon. They have NOT accounted for all things that can warm (or cool) the earth, and they have also not been diligent to do a three dimensional analysis (yes Virginia the air has a vertical dimension).
This is pseudoscience, as they painfully pat themselves on the back.

100 Years Ago: Science of the Unfit
Editor’s note: This editorial was written and published in 1911. Although our editors of a century ago pondered some lofty aspirations for the orderly future of humans, it was only three decades later that the brutal reality of a Nazi social order suffused with a eugenicist ideal brought home the practical shortcomings of the philosophy.

Got halfway through the second paragraph, but could detect that I was getting stupider with each additional word I read. Had to quit before I became as vapid and inane as the author of the letter.

Knowing your posting history, it is clear you were posting this stupidity for well deserved ridicule. Excellent.
Its always important to remember that almost the entire German physics community bitterly denounced Einstein’s theories. Also in the Soviet Union Russian natural sciences never recovered after virtually the entire scientific community saluted, took a politically correct position and supported the absurd genetic theories of Lysenko who was favored by Stalin. Scientific truth is not based on a vote or a consensus of the learned. The truth even if held only by a stubborn scorned individual remains the truth.

Well, I don’t think dirty mindedness “forces” the discussion along to truth any more than this fellow’s presumption.
The truth is, we do not have the means of doing an accounting of the earth’s energy balance. We have some theories about why the past played out the way it did, but even those theories are based upon a very limited view into the past. This could be as foolish as surmising that the rainbow caused the storm that preceded it.

Sounds like another absurd conspiracy theory crack.
They don’t even really know what has caused the various ice advances and retreats over the last 2 million years. The basic premise that the earth is slowly and constantly warming is not supported by the data.
If this can really make you vapid and inane you started out being vapid and inane...
It needs thoughtful critique. Folks who are actually deep into warmism debates can give you 1000 reasons why the earth should not be expected to go into a thermal runaway right now.
