Oregon first-grader humiliated by school’s punishment after being 1 minute late to class
NY Daily News ^

The family of an Oregon first-grader is outraged that his school forced the boy to sit by himself during lunch as punishment for being late.

The boy’s grandmother, Laura Hoover, took to Facebook to protest his retribution with photos of Hunter sulking into a cardboard wall blocking his view of a cafeteria bustling with his peers.

“His momma’s car sometimes doesn’t like to start right up. Sometimes he’s a couple minutes late to school. Yesterday, he was one minute late,” Hoover wrote. “This is what his momma discovered they do to punish him.”

His mother, Nicole Garloff, came to check on little Hunter at Lincoln Elementary in Grants Pass on Tuesday and ended up taking him home. She found him staring at his stark food tray in tears over the whole ordeal.

Does your wife bully her defenseless students too, or does she disagree with your stated views?

Give her detention and make her write on the board 100 times “I will not let Hunter be late for school”.

Before answering please provide your definitions of bullying and discipline.

BTW, I would never allow a child of mine to go to a public school, ever.

Thank you, that is the first constructive input you have made. The public schools have enough difficulties to deal with. Not having to deal with your undisciplined, entitled children lightens there load and makes it better for the rest of us.

Hahahahaha! You’re delusional if you believe you could force her to do that. Besides, that would be tantamount to public humiliation and libs can’t have that.

Punishment. Waiting.

That's bullying. You're a bad person.

If it is truly the parent’s fault and not the kids, then it’s the parent that should be penalized. I say fine ‘em after the second offense. Even a minimal fine of $30 bucks or so will get their attention. In the long run, even the most irresponsible parent will figure it’s cheaper to get a rebuilt battery for their car or whatever than to keep shelling out late fines.

I guess sarcasm isn’t always as obvious as I believe.

Now there is a solution I can get behind. Makes more sense then traumatizing a seven year old, for something he has no control over.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. Those who can't teach, administrate. Government schools should be abolished!

You have people on this thread advocating the child be punished. Perhaps they are products of government schools, but the ease with which they can advocate punishing a child for their perceived sins of an adult while posing on a conservative site speaks of a soul problem.

My son was in a major boys choir when he was young. The choir director made it clear to every parent if a child is late to a recital they would not participate.

He explained that we all have car trouble, traffic etc., and he NEVER bent his rule for anyone.

My son always arrived way early as did most of the other kids.

All school is a hoax.

I am glad my heart surgeon received at least a little schooling.

You mean he didn't just have to read a "Heart Surgery For Dummies" book?

He's 7, make her sit there for a minute behind cardboard.

Misread this the first time so I targeted my response wrong. In the real world (not your touchy feely dream world) exactly how is the school going to be able to maker the mother sit behind the cardboard.

I am just dying to hear your solution.

Using humiliation to punish a child who did nothing wrong would fall within the bounds of bullying.

—Really? A “miniature Third Reich” because a kid was made to eat his lunch all my himself?—

Yeah, after lunch the school worked him to death in the quarry and then made lampshades out of his hide.

Being “shunned” for one lunch hour is no big deal.

It’s known as life.
