Kerry says demanding Iran's 'capitulation' is no way to secure nuclear deal (stands with Iran)

MONTREUX, Switzerland - Simply demanding Iran's capitulation is no way to get a nuclear deal with the Islamic Republic, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Wednesday as he wrapped up three days of talks with a veiled dig at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Kerry said he and Iranian counterpart Mohammad Jawad Zarif made some progress in their negotiations in the Swiss lakeside town of Montreux and would resume them on March 15. Kerry aides said many obstacles remained before a late March deadline for an outline accord between Iran and six world powers.

"There are still significant gaps and important choices that need to be made," Kerry told reporters after more than 10 hours of talks all told with Zarif.

On Tuesday, Netanyahu said in a speech in the U.S. Congress that Washington was negotiating a bad deal with Iran that could spark a "nuclear nightmare," drawing a rebuke from President Barack Obama and exposing a deepening U.S.-Israeli rift.

Kerry said politics and external factors would not distract from the talks, which aim to constrain Iran with intrusive U.N. access and verification of its nuclear activity and lengthen the "break-out" time needed for it to build any nuclear weapon.

“No one has presented a more viable, lasting alternative for how you actually prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. So folks, simply demanding that Iran capitulate is not a plan. And nor would any of our P5+1 partners support us in that position.”

Netanyahu has called for the powers to insist Iran dismantle its nuclear infrastructure and change what he described as its "aggressive" regional posture -- an idea swiftly rejected by the Obama administration as tantamount to seeking "regime change" in Tehran. Israel and Iran have been arch-enemies since 1979.

Anyone ever notice that when this administration needs a media outlet to get their message out that they immediately seek out the local Reuters reporter, in this case, one Arshad Mohammed?

Anyone else notice this?

Anyone else notice that kerry has recycled the knee pads that he used in his illegal “negotiations” with North Vietnam in Paris while still a Naval Officer on active duty?

Apparently, the WH no longer thinks the March deadline matters at all:

A senior U.S. official hinted during a press conference after the talks that the aspiration to forge a framework agreement by March 30, to be followed by a more comprehensive agreement by June 30, is no longer relevant. Rather, the American official noted that the new working goal is “reaching an understanding” with the Iranians that will turn into a comprehensive, specified agreement.

The official added that President Barack Obama will decide if there is a basis for continuing the talks in June, based on understandings that will be reached in the coming weeks.

After the talks, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry responded to the speech made in Congress on Tuesday by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and said “simply demanding that Iran capitulate is not a plan.”

The idiot doesn’t realize that he’s negotiating from a position of strength...but behind the scenes Iran is probably threatening to not fight ISIS.

Kerry, now that Iran has turned down the latest deal, should walk away from the table and turn the sanction heat up.

I don't know. Seems like a way to me and the best on to assure it's done.

We have to re-befriend Russia , support Israel and draw China away from it’s insane support of the Iran-North Korean alliance that it secretly also backs .

Are you not aware of the fact that Russia supports Iran's nuclear program? As does China?

The rest of the world could offer China far more incentive to dump Iran AND North Korea ..... With Russia commanding the northern approaches , we should go in and physically remove the Mullah Regime

I have a better idea, we tell Russia and China that if Iran sets off a nuke anywhere in either Israel or America, that we will not only destroy Tehran, we will destroy Moscow and Beijing as well! That should sufficiently scare them into halting their support of Iran. As for removing the mullahs from power, tell the people of Iran to oust them by force before we destroy Iran ourselves. No fun in getting involved in a mountain war.

Don’t worry Kerry has a “plan” just like all of the other “plans” that he had to save us during his presidential election.

Don’t worry about Kerry not getting the Nobel Peace Prize. Hanoi still owes him the “Defender of the Fatherland” medal for his treason over Vietnam.

Iran can wait a while before giving him what he deserves.

kerry is so desperate to find someone on earth who likes him that he will be a traitor to his country. Maybe he should just go to one of his expensive homes and get drunk with his drunken wife.

Can we nuke Iran while Kerry is there?

Here’s a great deal: Iran doesn’t get nukes and if they do we drop a dozen on them.

Take that you Persian aholes.

If they capitulate by accepting the 6 outstanding UN resolutions, Kerry and Obama are UN fans aren't they, there's no enrichment, no ballistic missile program and viola, no need for a deal. If, as an alternative, Kerry and Obama strike a non UN compliant deal, seems to me they need to go to the security council and get Iran the OK to enrich and develop ICBMs.
