And being mental has nothing to do with officers protecting themselves!
Did they shoot it out of a cannon? With a crossbow?
Looked to me as if he was advancing.
Sad but, cops is right on this one...
(((Donning NOMEX)))
Schizophrenic people are responsible for a lot of death and violence.
Does the officer have to make a 30 second Psycological exam and then just pray the guy with the unstable brain doesn’t kill them?
I’ve dumped on the cops many times for nasty shoots:
THIS is absolutely not one of them.
schizophrenic people thought block and need time to process what is being said. Sometimes it is up to 15 to 20 seconds before they can respond to a statement.
It was a righteous shoot.
She called the police and told them she needed help because her schizo son was off his meds and was scaring her. They come to the door and she states that he is “off his chain”, schizo and talking about chopping people up. And she lets her enormous man of a “son” follow her out the door holding a screwdriver as he approaches those cops.
I don’t understand how anyone can think the cops weren’t right to feel threatened when he wouldn’t drop it and kept coming at them.
I don’t like police brutality, either, but sorry, this will likely be adjudicated a “good shoot”. The police have learned well the lessons of Dennis Tueller’s classic article in SWAT magazine, “How Close is Too Close?” and Massad Ayoob’s latest book, “Deadly Force”. A couple seconds aren’t even enough time for your life to flash before your eyes before you die.
The officers should have been better prepared to deal with someone off meds. Why not use non lethal force for a crazy guy with a screwdriver? What a shame.
So they ran out of 9v batteries? What’s up with the lack of Tasers????
The cops don't have to stand their ground in every single instance unless they want to create the impression that we live in a police state. A cop with a normal sense of humanity could have backed off and defused the situation. Any good fascist, of course, would naturally have plugged the guy. Sure, guys, it was a righteous shoot for a nazi.
The man with mental problems was not in the act of trying to use deadly force and was not threatening to use deadly force.
Police have no right to shoot someone for nothing other than refusing to obey police orders. People who argue with this are criminal-minded constituents—often those with either inadequate police academy training or no police academy training.
I would think the guy has to at least look like he’s going to attack. Oh well.
Do not have mental problems or physical illnesses dealign with cops. They’ll shoot you dead. Lotsa diabetics having seizures will back me up on that one. Or even just disoriented people who’ve been shot. Or people having a swat team bust into their place thinking criminals are doing a home invasion. They’ll back me up. If they could.
Bad shoot.
Blame the federal judges, not the cops.
