GenCon, the worlds biggest convention for tabletop gaming and a massive moneymaking machine for the State of Indiana, has responded to a bill that legalizes discrimination against LGBT customers by threatening to leave the stateand take their $50 million-a-year convention elsewhere.
This isnt because GenCon is run by political progressives or social justice warriors trying to make a difference. It really, really isnt. If GenCon leaves Indianapolis itll be for the same reason it came to Indianapolis and abandoned its original home of Wisconsin, the home state of founder of D&D Gary Gygax (peace be upon him).
Because it makes business sense.

I know it doesn’t make any business sense. If one business refuses a service then it’s more business for the competition that will. Business is business and a cup of tea is a cup of tea.
Ironically, the store with the “Equality Welcome” sticker will probably have a “No Guns Allowed” sticker.
Miniatures? Never heard of that aspect.
I must have been away by then, or my ex played other things (Magic for sure, and then there were little velvet baggies with something in them - I never knew what, chips, dice, who knows. Something clinky.)
But, yes...DIAPERS. He even packed baby powder for chafing. UGH.
Times must have changed.
[I find it so interesting that many people who deride and classify gamers have never gamed.]
I personally know young adults who attribute the roots of their addiction problems to gaming.
GenCon is a gaming convention. No 'g', no 'l'. Think nerds on parade.
Churches don't need to "disband" except in the sense of dissolving their corporation and do away with their 501(c)3 Status. Basically they would be going underground. There are already thousands of local congregations around the country meeting just that way. Many more will have to do so in the near future for many reasons.
Plus hotels, taxis, rent of the convention site, sales tax from items sold at the convention....
How would you do that?

I know! I know! (Now)
Make life difficult for them. If GenCon tries to move, bring unwanted controversy and scrutiny to anywhere they want to go. Harass their sponsors, bring share holder actions against public companies who support them, and whatever else inventive minds can come up with.
I know of people who became addicted to gaming, and who have never been able to completely wean themselves off of their ‘alternate persona’ from the gaming world.
However, I also know many gamers who graduated to real life, unscathed.
The roots of your young acquaintances’ addictions wasn’t the act of gaming - but gaming may have been a consequence of the root of their addiction.
That is the problem, but another solution is this one where our elected representatives, the representatives of the 97 percent of us who are not in that protected class, protects constitutionally protected freedom of religion.
Religious freedom is not just endangered by gays. Here in my state an Amish family has been evicted from their home for not adhering to ‘modern’ building codes. (That will certainly keep them safer).
Time to push back.
I have a friend who was the premier wedding photographer in the state recently retired. He could do a few weddings but he will never offer that service to avoid this issue.
However, I also know many gamers who graduated to real life, unscathed.
True. Many come from families with generational addictions.
However, IMHO, the gaming culture that includes dark Antichrist themes and characters,as well as physical and sexual violence has not been a positive influence for younger generations. Every year the darkness intensifies.
Games tend to follow the culture, and in my experience are no further ahead of the curve than popular music and film. However, the darkness does indeed intensify as time marches on.
There are a number of tactical war games based on miniatures. The most well known is Warhammer. Getting an army together from those things is not a cheap business, and on top of it the people spend hours painting the figures.
If your ex actually wore diapers to gaming events, you are very well off to be rid of him. That’s just downright disturbing.
