2011 for us. I still watch the video and brings tears. He is a wonderful man.

That should be a busy time.
Do you make one from start to finish, or have several going at once?

Culture shock is an understatement. I started my military career there 45 years ago.

I arrived at MCRD San Diego as a boot recruit on February 2, 1973 and left as a United States Marine on May 9, 1973. I was assigned to Platoon 1017 and my Platoon Commander was Sgt C C Jarrett and the two other drill instructors were Sgt Chapman and Cpl Flores. It was quite the experience and I’ll remember it for the rest of my life.

Ya know, I tried real hard to recall, then search for what my platoon number was. Think it had a 76 in it. No luck. Yearbook long gone. How do you forget your platoon number?! That thing is etched in my mind and I'll never forget it. I was in Platoon 1017.

Good evening, my...did the Marines and Navy visit at all? Any cross training? Nope. They stayed on their side of the fence and we stayed on our side.

How do you forget your platoon number?! I dunno, lost track I suppose, just too much going on. In 65-66. the Corps was a busy place. I was immediately sent to a technical school at El Toro after ITR and it never let up after that.
Boot camp was a distant memory six months after I left MCRD, had too much new stuff going on.

Marines are a division of the Navy.

As I often point out, “The Men’s Division”.
