Clinton Foundation acknowledges 'mistakes'
The Hill ^ | 2015-04-26 | Jesse Byrnes

The Clinton Foundation's acting chief on Sunday acknowledged the organization had made missteps, but defended its transparency efforts amid Hillary Clinton's nascent presidential campaign.

Acting CEO Maura Pally's statement, posted to the foundation's blog, comes in response to a flood of questions surrounding a forthcoming book that scrutinizes foreign donations to the foundation.

"[W]e made mistakes, as many organizations of our size do, but we are acting quickly to remedy them, and have taken steps to ensure they don't happen in the future," Pally wrote in the lengthy statement, which noted the organization would likely refile tax forms and touched on newly scrutinized donations.

The foundation said last week it would refile several years of tax returns after acknowledging it inadequately disclosed to the Internal Revenue Service foreign donations from 2010 to 2013.

Responding to a review that found the errors, Pally wrote, "Our total revenue was accurately reported on each year's form – our error was that government grants were mistakenly combined with other donations."

She also sought to shed light on the foundation's complicated structure, which includes 11 different initiatives, including the Clinton Giustra Enterprise Partnership, which focuses on alleviating poverty around the world.

Pally wrote that the Clinton Foundation receives funding for specific projects from an independent Canadian charity of the same name, set up by Canadian mining investor Frank Giustra, who along with Ian Telfer (through a family foundation), donated millions of dollars to the Clinton Foundation.

Those donations were scrutinized in a New York Times report last week, given that Hillary Clinton in her role as secretary of State signed off on a Russian nuclear agency's acquisition of uranium mining assets in the U.S. in which the men were investors.

"This is hardly an effort on our part to avoid transparency," Pally wrote of the donations not listed publicly, noting that, unlike in the U.S., Canadian law prohibits charities from disclosing donors without their prior consent.

Pally is acting chief of the organization until former Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala assumes leadership of the Clinton's namesake organization, whom the foundation announced as its pick last month.

Hillary Clinton stepped down from the foundation's board before launching her presidential bid, while husband Bill Clinton and daughter Chelsea, its vice chair, remain on the board.

"Without question the Foundation’s accomplishments stand on their own," Pally wrote, detailing some of the organization's work since it was launched 15 years ago by former President Clinton.

"As the Foundation’s impact has grown, so too has its commitment to transparency," Pally added, noting it recently limited foreign donations and increased the frequency of donor disclosures.

Does anybody know what the purpose of the Clinton foundation is?

Why does anyone give money to the foundation?

Why does the foundation only spend about 15% on its charitable humanitarian work? Where does the other 85% go?

Are the Clintons really out to insult our intelligence, by suggesting that they would never think that anyone would contribute to the foundation, based on having Clinton connections, and the idea that Hillary would become president someday?

Does Hillary really want to insult our intelligence, by saying her speaking fees go to the foundation, and not her personally? This implying that she doesn’t get anything from her speaking fees????

Funny, conservative organisations didn’t even have to “make mistakes” to get much, much more scrutiny from the IRS.

No, they don’t want to insult our intelligence. They don’t care if the whole world knows they’re corrupt, as long as they get away with it. Slick was the “smiling rapist”.

Mistakes, I’ve made a few, but then again, too few to mention. I did what I had to do and saw it through w/o exemption.

The Clintonian way of dealing with this will be:

1. If Hillary ever addresses this, she will admit that mistakes were made, but that the mistakes were corrected, amended tax returns filed, etc. so now everything is open and above board.

2. Hillary will say or imply that anyone bringing this up is doing so for political attack reasons, and that the mistakes were low level clerical errors, not any sort of criminal or intentional violation.

3. If this comes up again sometime next year, Hillary and the attack dogs such as Carville and Lanny Davis will get out there, say it’s old news, it’s already been resolved, already been discussed, etc.

They brag about doing ‘good works’ but only payout 15% of the monies received; the rest is gobbled-up in salaries, travel and who knows what else. Pardon me if I'm not impressed.

I thought its purpose was to ensure that the Clinton's had safe, secure, and comfortable lodgings in the cities they frequent, that they had trustworthy transportation and food, that they had enough petty cash on hand to cover incidental expenses they may encounter, that they could throw lavish banquets to socialize with industry leaders on a personal basis, home high-tech computer equipment and big screen televisions, etc.

You know... normal charitable expenses for liberals.

Of course Clintons now acknowledge mistakes! After the detailed investigatory book came out.

Keep in mind the Clintons did not acknowledge Monica lies until the blue dress with semen stains was found.

Of course they are...

The NYT isn't really going after them, just helping vetting them so they can clean up this scandal early and have an excuse later on in the campaign...

"Stop attacking us..the NYT times vetted us and we corrected the issues..."
