For me, the issue this US election season is the corruption. Sure, I'd like a balanced budget and less debt and repeal of Obamacare, but I'm getting used to being sold out on those issues. So I'm down to the bare minimum requirement for a politician: The corruption nauseates me, and, if it doesn't nauseate the candidates, then that explains a lot about why nothing happens on any of those other matters. It's in the air, it's in my nostrils, and I'm sick of choking on it. We have a "justice" department that prosecutes a senator who made the mistake of crossing the President (Menendez) but declines to do anything about a tax collector who treats American taxpayers differently on the basis of how they vote (Lerner). We have a revenue agency that regards itself as the paramilitary wing of the ruling party.

The donations from that Ukranian oligarch are really bad news. It hardly ever appears in print because the whole DC crowd, across the political spectrum, supports the Kiev coup initiated by the US State Dept and the support the US is still giving to the coup government.

It wouldn't take much for that situation to cause a world war, and it followed those donations.

Good piece as always by Steyn, but it also contained a revelation - at least for me. Though I'm an avid reader of FR, I had never heard of the John Doe investigations in Wisconsin. I'm shocked, truly shocked.

There is much about the US system of governance that is just too convoluted for someone not living in the US to understand.

But, please, can someone explain to me how a law like the John Doe Investigation can exist in any free state? And when it so obviously was abused why did not the legislature stop it? There was a Republican governor, but did he have a Democrat congress, or were the congressmen just sitting on their hands?

No I won't because I had found it and read it before posting my query. ;-)
But thanks a lot anyway. It was a very good article, but it made my toes curl and my hair stand on end. Really, really frightening. And it didn't explai how this disgusting law could be on the law books in the first place, nor that the present day politicians accepted it.

BTW my admiration for Governor Palin just increased yet another notch. It was brave to go to Madison and fight for Governor Walker.

Giving Russia the uranium was really bad news since they are helping Islamics build nukes and selling them missiles, wouldn’t take much for that to cause a world war.
