Last week, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins was invited to be on "Face the Nation." What was supposed to be a cordial conversation about the Supreme Court and same-sex marriage turned out to be a professional ambush.
Host Bob Schieffer pounced on the Family Research Council, calling them an anti-gay hate group. He was using discredited intelligence from the Southern Poverty Law Center. It was an ugly interview.

Justices who vote for “gay marriage” should indeed be impeached, because nothing in the US Constitution is written to give the federal government the power to control marriage. It’s simply not there, not even in the penumbras.
Virtue does serve as illustration, and therefore I must disagree that “spiritually it makes no difference.” That is to deny God’s own witness.
But I would certainly agree that we do not STOP there.
Sometimes evangelicals don’t see the big picture.
You are very optimistic, and I hope that your faith carries you to a great reward in heaven.

God, however, remains a God of wonder — of surprises. He can steer both evil and good in a way we never imagined, and right here in the world let alone in eternity.
I pray on my knees that you are right and that I’m too pessimistic. My faith is not as strong as yours.
I am indeed optimistic about what the Lord can do.
However “as a man thinketh within himself, so he is.” If Christians are dedicated to the idea that the bible means we are woodenly fated to failure in a given age of challenge, which is a danger of books like Revelation and others, then the battle has been lost in their hearts. There is a larger concentration of Christians in America than at any place in history. I feel, if my sense of the Holy Spirit’s leading is any indication, it is a shame to waste that. In the future, the spiritual resource picture may be different. God has no grandchildren.
There could be — actually doubtless are — problems we still need to deal with, sins that we need to get straight before we can counsel other sinners. But if you never get in the car, you never learn how to drive.
The nice thing about weak faith is that it is like weak muscles. Exercise often improves the situation.

Why is anybody surprised that POS Shieffer attacks a conservative Christian group?
Well, even if we fail, we can say we did try. I think you are correct to be aware of the danger, the risk. I am just begging to put all that in context. We need to get out of our complacency. I believe we’d both agree on that. Where we might not quite agree yet is what we ought to do in the meantime. I think there is far more to look forward to than mere holing up with a cache of MREs and machine guns.

Nobody should be, of course.
Christians might actually “lose” the “gay marriage” battle. But the Holy Spirit gives us vision to look beyond that devil’s stunt.
Now that we don’t have an anchor in Caesar that we once had, we might be surprised to find that we will do spiritually quite well and even better than before, without it. OF COURSE we won’t give in and “get gay married” that’s not what I mean. The fight between good and evil has a way of clarifying the issues. Lights that we might not have bothered to turn on in twilight might show us things at midnight that we missed before.
If we want constant good, constant nice, then eternity after this life is the place for it. Lamenting that it is not here now is useless and pointless.
Every so often you just need to go read Psalm 2 for a little encouragement. It’s nice to know that nothing can prevent His Kingdom from coming - the enemies of Christ will try but nothing can prevent His coming and His Kingdom. Lots of conflict before that happens, however.
Oh boy does He. The question of us is whether we want to come along with Him when He seems to be blasting down an impossibly curvy road.
And they feel free to spew the most hateful calumny imaginable, in any venue, and they fully expect all their listeners to agree with them.
How about going on the show and being sharp and making the libtard hosts look like idiots? That’s a good outcome. That’s what every conservative should be striving for every time they’re in front of a camera.
We see Psalm 2 playing out now. The nations are raging, they are plotting a vain thing. I see it on Facebook, it is amazing what modern technology shows us behind our nice “safe” walls.
The Lord is laughing from heaven at this. We have a right to do that too.
