Fears over military training fester in Texas city

BASTROP, Texas - Vicki Lehmeir said she was initially surprised that Gov. Greg Abbott put the Texas State Guard in charge of monitoring the U.S. military's Jade Helm 15 exercises this summer. Then again, Lehmeir, treasurer of the county Democratic Party, reconsidered. “Gov. Abbott is pandering to the paranoia in the state,” said Lehmeir, on Thursday morning. “And then he’ll probably complain about the cost, like he did at the border when those children were coming across.” Fear that the exercises represent the beginnings of a military-led takeover of the state, orchestrated by President Barack Obama, were all too real for Bastrop resident Barbara Lynch. Lynch said she doesn’t believe the Hawaiian-born president was actually born in the United States. “You never know what’s going on behind the scenes. I’m just afraid we’re heading for a one-world government with Islamic being the one-world religion,” she said, alluding to a belief among some that the Christian president is, in fact, a Muslim.

a belief among some that the Christian president is, in fact, a Muslim.

He's admitted on more than one occasion he is muzzy.

After I posted this I remembered a woman who worked for me in the late 80’s. Her son joined the Army Special Forces. Once she told me her son lost his leave because his team had to re-infiltrate an office building in downtown Los Angeles. They entered the building at night and had to hide in the walls and ceiling for a day. She said they were sent back in to retrieve the lead from a round that discharged, went through two walls, and lodged in a chair. Makes you wonder.

I’ve seen handouts and viewgraphs from DHS, some FBI and other government agencies that relate to “threats” to this country (all the online unclassified stuff).

They invariably describe some aspect of it as “militia” (not the ISIS kind), “veterans”, “right-wing sovereigns”, “right wing evangelicals” or the like.

Not once have I ever seen the word “Muslim” connected with any of it.

If they want some real training send a recon force across the border to wipe out that ISIS camp and take that local drug cartel down at the same time. That should give them some live action. They can practice “blending in” down there.

When I went through the SFOC (Special Forces Officers Course) in 67 our final field exercise started with a night jump into a NC county that was an imaginary foreign country and we were to meet and link up with local guerilla fighters. What you are referring to sounds more like Delta training as they have different missions like the failed Iranian hostage rescue. If this country is training it’s military to counter the imaginary overthrow of the Gov-I’d say the Gov is afraid we know we are being lied to about the financial status of this nation. Where the hell is the gold from Fort Knox?

Abbott putting the Texas Guard on the case makes perfect sense, and there is historic precedent from World War Two. The Texas Guard is composed of Texas loonies who can be trusted with sharp things, i.e., they have street credibility with the ones who have really major issues with reality.

The US Army posted most of its known Communists to the Aleutians in World War Two, to keep them away from anything important. What was brilliant was that the Army also posted its most incompetent and most ardent anti-Communists to the Aleutians, with secret orders to spy on the Communists. "Be sure to send us weekly reports."

Both side's nutballs then harmelessly chased each other's tails for the rest of the war. In more ways than one.

Abbott is doing the same here. He should run for President.
