Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), a likely 2016 presidential candidate, faced off against a hostile college student on Wednesday.
The student, identified in reports as 19-year-old Ivy Ziedrich, introduced herself as a young Democrat attending the University of Nevada, Reno.
She quickly moved on to accuse Bush's brother, former President George W. Bush, of laying the groundwork for the rise of the Islamic State jihadist group (also known as ISIS). Ziedrich argued that the US didn't do enough to take care of former Iraqi soldiers after Geroge W. Bush invaded Iraq in 2003.
"The threat of ISIS was created by the Iraqi Coalition Authority which ousted the entire government of Iraq. It was when 30,000 individuals who were part of the Iraqi military ... were forced out. They had no employment. They had no income. Yet they were left with access to all of the same arms and weapons," Ziedrich said. "Your brother created ISIS."
Jeb Bush initially wasn't quite sure how to respond.
"Is that a question?" he asked.
"You don’t need to be pedantic to me, sir," she replied.

Mistakes, serious mistakes, were made by Paul Bremer, Bush's head of the Iraq Provisional Authority. One of them was disbanding the Iraqi army. And that led to chaos in the entire region. And that made the rise of ISIS so much easier.
It is much like how the treaty of Versailles led to chaos in Germany, which made the rise of Hitler so much easier.
It's a stretch to directly blame Bush for ISIS, as it's a stretch to directly blame Versailles for Hitler. But the links are there, and we need to learn from it.
I didn’t think his answer was a bad answer. Maybe I need to reread the article.
He answered the question whether I’d ever even consider voting for Jeb Bush is not the question. (Disagree with the editorial take)
I recognize Bush for being the GOPe designated loser. That still doesn’t change the fact that this young woman’s narrative was a work of fiction. It bore no resemblance to reality.
He could have spent fifteen minutes educating her, but in a rope line that isn’t what you do. She just prattled on making a statement. She asked why he didn’t answer the question, and frankly she ran on so far beyond the question it was ludicrous to expect an answer on that point.
Do you walk away? Do you interrupt? Do you talk down to her? Do you ignore everyone else in line to grant her this interview, or platform for a statement?
In this type of situation you could be criticized for doing just about anything. In the end, he gave her the right simple answer.
Once again, I detest Jeb. People, DO NOT vote for this man. Now, do I think the girl was supportable just because I detest him? No, I think she was an ill informed child. She had been pumped full of Leftist bile, and as soon as she opened her mouth, it spewed out.
Her idiotic party members voted to authorize action in Iraq. So much for it being Bush’s fault.

Hussein’s army was corrupt from the top to the bottom.
They carried out human atrocities on Hussein’s whim.

There was always a lot of trouble in Iraq though, suicide bombings, a lull in the violence but not an end to it ever.
Agreed, all of your posts here are on the mark. I think JB answered the question adequately even if I disagree with most of his political positions.
And as someone else said, point to the Arab spring and all that a lot more than 2008.

That’s a good point, the Arab Spring. Good call. There was a lot going on post 2008 wasn’t there.
Remember, ISIS was hiding out in Syria and causing a little trouble for Assad. Obama changed that by funding 12 different insurgent groups, arming and funding them and giving them US military advisors to attack Assad’s troops. This weakened Assad’s military and allowed ISIS to not only grow, but to take over 1/3 of Syria. Then they set their sights on Iraq and Libya. Without Obama’s intervention, there would be no ISIS
Then generals were corrupt, and had blood on their hands. And so were the colonels, probably all the way down to the captains.
But consider the average Iraqi privates and corporals. Many were draftees. It's those folks who should have been immediately reorganized into some sort of Iraqi constabulary. Instead they were all sent home angry, unpaid,...and armed.
Think about what Eisenhower did when Germany was occupied. The highest Nazis got arrested. But everyone else was put to work rebuilding the country. It's not a perfect analogy, but it's something to think about.
Either way. There was no plan to handle any scenarios. Keeping our military there forever is not a plan as well, especially with no status of forces agreement under Bush or Obama.
ISIS was/is a natural event that has only been held in check with dictators in the ME.

Equally important, we can’t let the left propagate the meme that they are intellectually superior, or have the more ‘modern and informed’ positions. You’re absolutely correct that he should be ready for any and all questions, and should anticipate these type of verbal attacks. He should have answers at the ready. How can you claim to be a great Presidential candidate when you can’t handle silly outbursts from a 19 year old student?
Perhaps I should give that portion of it more thought.
My worry is that the lowest level of people in their army were the ones with hands-on during the persecution of the Iraqi citizens.
Should they be allowed a position of authority again?
I have misgivings about that.
ISIS grew largely because of a Dictator in Syria blowing his own people up.
I am no fan of Sr Arbusto but i think he handled it okay. The girl was talking a hundred miles an hour.
Also,how was Sr Arbusto being pe·dan·tic? Sounds like she had that word ready no matter what he said? He was maybe being a little wise ass. But she ask a 400 word question in 30 seconds.
That being said i will never get my vote.
Saddam was convicted of genocide against the Kurds, killed from 30,000-100,000 of them as if this is peace.
Anyone ever wonder why the Kurds are considered such loyal allies?
Anyway, Jeb answered the snotty nosed brat with no problem. All those saying different are glorifying the snotty nosed brat.
