An Iowa judge has dismissed a 112-member jury pool after determining that a black man charged with murder couldn't get a fair trial when all but one potential juror is white.
Tyrone Washington Jr., 41, of Northwood is accused in the August 2013 stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend, 30-year-old Justina Smith, the Globe Gazette reported.
Defense attorney Charles Kenville requested to have the entire jury pool stricken, and District Judge Colleen Weiland on Tuesday granted his motion.
Out of the 112 people in the jury pool, 111 had identified themselves as white. One juror identified himself as Native American.
Kenville said the lack of racial diversity wasn't intentional but that 'the system is broken in Webster County and this court needs to fix it for Mr. Washington's rights to be upheld.'

Usually, jury pools are taken from voter registration rolls. It is hard to get some people to show up for jury selection because there are:
1) so many summons they could have been sent based on their multiple registrations they don’t know to which one they should respond,
2) they didn’t get the summons because the addresses they used on their multiple registrations do not exist.

Then white defendants can’t be properly represented without a white jury, would that be correct? Or is this another self-loathing white man who thinks that blacks are morally superior, in spite of the statistics on crime rates?
Except that whites are still the ones who more than any other race, support through taxes and charity, the rest. The opposite has never been true.
The trial venue should be moved to Mississippi or perhaps Alabama
Well that can (and most probably will be) fixed, by importing loads of Somalis and Haitians. Our home-grown blacks haven’t reproduced as fast as the left expected, even with all the welfare at their disposal to support dysgenic breeding.
I decided to just embrace it. Knowing the “hate facts” (crime statistics, welfare rates, etc) just reinforced that decision.
That assumes blacks register to vote in the same percentages as whites.
Northwood, Iowa, is not in Webster County.
It is in Worth County, Iowa, and get this, the trial was moved from Worth County to Webster County “out of concern about the racial makeup of the potential jury pool”.
Worth County has far fewer blacks than Webster County, where the city of Ft. Dodge has a small black community.
In that part of Iowa, it would be hard to find any significant number of Blacks for the jury pool because so few actually live in that area. What does this judge plan to do bus in Black jurors or select jurors solely by race?
And 3.4% of a jury is 40% of a person. So what is the judge thinking would be an adequate state mandated number of sufficiently black people on the jury?
Judge Colleen Weiland should know what that part of the state looks like, but she was appointed by failed Governor Chet Culver and is well-known for minimal sentencing. She’s a lib victim of her own stupidity.

Have good friends who immigrated from South Africa about 20 years ago. Afrikaners. Lived there for 400 years. Now US citizens.

This judge’s district ‘blackest’ county is Webster County. Webster County probably has only a few hundred blacks in the entire population of those who could be chosen to be part of a jury pool. (Around 18,000 votes were cast in the 2012 election).
The judge probably sees lots of black defendants from Webster County and assumed there must be thousands of blacks there.
Likely this will be taken out of her jurisdiction. Closest black population would be in Black Hawk County (Waterloo), 100 miles to the east, and not in this judge’s district.
A racist judge who should be removed from office and disbarred... and preferably leave the country.
