NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The Twin Peaks company has revoked the franchise agreement for its restaurant in Waco, Texas, the scene of a biker shootout that killed nine people this weekend.
"We will not tolerate the actions of this relatively new franchisee and are revoking their franchise immediately," said the Dallas-based company.
The company laid the blame on the managers of the Waco franchise who "chose to ignore the warnings and advice from both the police and our company, and did not uphold the high security standards we have in place to ensure everyone is safe at our restaurants."
The restaurant had already been shut down for a week following the fatal gang shootout on Sunday.
"The Twin Peaks restaurant where the fight occurred will be closed for the next seven days out of a concern about further violence," Waco Police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said Monday.
In an interview with CNN affiliate KTVT over the weekend, Swanton criticized Twin Peaks for ignoring the police department's advice to keep biker gangs away from the restaurant.
"We feel like there may have been more that could have been done by a business to prevent this," said Swanton, noting that police had expected trouble with the bikers and had a marked SWAT truck standing by, in full view of the bikers, just before the fight broke out. "They absolutely have a right to refuse service to people that may be a harm to their patrons and employees. They didn't do that, and today is the ultimate aftermath of what their decision was."

Some have jobs, some get disability, some are involved in dope. They often are big into prostitution. They are generally that weird brother in law,,,, financially speaking.
I went out on a limb and claimed to smell a rat back in more than 1 thread- I am, sticking by my hunch. LEO blasted people into hell under their pretense of protecting the public. Where is the independent investigation by the Just-Us Department? This has JANET RENO smeared all over itself.
They do indeed have a right to refuse service. Ask any number of restaurants that require a collared shirt or a tie. Dress codes can be enforced all day long.
You may not refuse service based on race or religion or the other protected classes. But yes, you may indeed have a dress code in a restaurant.
Funny you should ask that. Hubby just told me it involved one of the gangs adding a “Texas” patch to their “colors” and the Banditos took severe exception to that. Plus I assume alcohol played a part.
Okay, so you would okay gangs as this owner did voluntarily? Maybe you are also the problem. Really, refusing service would be a right when violence is or might be involved..geez! This owner decided to allow and probably encouraged these gangs to visit his restaurant (wanted the money I guess). Probably an ex-gang member himself. He is paying the price and deservedly so!
“Do they fight over territory, or some philosophical difference, or is the membership by ethnicity, or what?”
All the above depending on which gangs are involved. Usually it boils down to money (from drugs, prostitution, gun running), territory (which is all about money and street cred), and bragging rights (who’s the biggest, baddest, most feared, etc.). These gang rivalries are everywhere you find the biker gangs - even New Zealand: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gangs_in_New_Zealand
If biker clubs were allowed into Twin Peaks, that was the owners choice and he has to live with his decisions. You seem to think that choice should only be by those that think like you do.
if that story is true, and the cops killed all those bikers, how soon do you think we’ll have WhiteLivesMatter marches?...and the DOJ investigating?...and the DBM attacking the cops?
I think you misunderstood the point of my posting.
For the record, I hate motorcycle gangs, and I dislike even the many dentists, etc., who put on the leathers and go out and play dress-up Bad A$$.
I think it’s all very silly, noisy and bothersome and I abhor the killing that played out in Waco.
I’m saying completely different:
Private property rights are being diminished, and the homo cake/homo wedding photographer imbroglio is going to have repercussions that we haven’t yet seen play out.
People are getting confused about what is a “right” and businesses are going to get nervous about the types of people they can exclude.
There ARE people, many people, who feel they have Extra Rights, and that’s a problem.
Gosh, does that really work?
Maybe they should have hung signs in Furguson and Baltimore. (Just kidding ;-)
I haven't dug into the details of the biker fight. But I have a tough time imagining that the business owners are somehow to blame for the altercation.
And, unless specific instructions or policy were ignored by the owners, I think the franchisees are scum to abandon their partners so quickly.
Does anyone know more details?
It’s legal to ban “colors” in Colorado, and it’s in practice in most clubs that need the ban.
Maybe they just needed larger peeks?
Come to think of it, if the bikers were gay, then the feds could force the franchise to serve them regardless of signage. ;-)
Yeah, it really does work. They don’t like to go places where they cant put on the big showoff thing. And the places who want them are easily found.
Furthermore, such places that put up signage forbidding colors avoid being claimed as turf. It works surprisingly well. The same thing is done with black gangs a dress code prohibiting sportswear.
Of course one or two of that ilk will come in without, but mostly they stay away. Normally its very important to them to strut around and for everyone to know who they are.
The list of biker clubs also raises some different questions. Throw out the Banditos, the Cossacks and the Scimitars, since they are known outlaw gangs but the others, I wonder about.
The Blackett Arms MC, Gypsy MC, HonorBound Motorcycle Ministry, Renatus MC, Escondidos MC, Sons of the South MC, Los Pirados MC, Leathernecks MC, Vietnam Vets/Legacy Vets MC, In Country MC and the Tornado Motorcycle Club all sound like a bunch of riders (bikers, if you will) that have common interest in addition to riding.
As a rider for over a half a century who has never had any use for the biker lifestyle or identity, I do know lots of folks that identify as "Bikers". Those other clubs sound like the ones they join. Time will tell but this story is starting to sound like it might have more than a little resemblance to a Waco story from almost three decades ago.
From what I can tell, the owner of the restaurant promoted the biker event. Which, like you say, is his right to do so. Now, if he had reason to believe that it might turn violent and did not take precautions to reduce that risk, then I imagine that might be found out in a lawsuit.
I hope that a reliable investigation is done on the shootings. One gal that knew several of the bikers said over 30 guns were drawn and a hundred rounds fired. It was implied that it was the bikers doing most of the shooting.
I’m guessing that there will be videos of it all.
“A sign at the door, no biker colors or vests allowed. Theyll go elsewhere.”
Gosh, does that really work?
Yes, it works quite well. Bikers don’t want to talk to cops. You can call the cops to remove a person who isn’t following the dress code. The biker knows that means a check for warrants, a search, a search of the bike, registration, license, etc.
That's good! Even bad guys don't go where they're not wanted (or can't impress folks).
Too bad it doesn't work for the "black lives matter" gang. Perhaps they're the dumbest of all. ;-)
“Come to think of it, if the bikers were gay,”
My British biker friends thought exactly that when they visited here. They said bikers wear full racing leathers, gloves, riding boots, etc,, and helmets.
They said over there the zipper leather jackets, concho shells, fringes, chains, and all that stuff is 100% gay culture.
Total Freddie mercury in their eyes. They just couldn’t believe their eyes.
The threats aimed at the police in the comments are a nice touch.
