You’re 45% more likely to be murdered in de Blasio’s Manhattan

Murders are way up so far this year in Manhattan, The Post has learned.

Sixteen people were killed around the borough between the first of the year and Sunday. Over the same period last year, the figure was 11. That’s an increase of about 45 percent.

Shootings in the borough have also soared.

There have been 50 “shooting incidents’’ since Jan. 1, compared with 31 in the same time period in 2014 — an increase of about 38 percent. Some of these “incidents’’ involved more than one victim.

The number of shooting victims nearly doubled, from 33 to 61. . .

"At a Dec. 3 news conference, de Blasio cast the discussion in personal terms, saying he and his wife Chirlane, who is black, have spoken with their son, Dante, on how to be careful dealing with police."

It’s racist not to be murdered.

NYC is a good visit around Christmas. See Rockefeller Center area, Radio City Christmas show, the big stores, get some chow, St Patrick’s Cathedral, Broadway show, the down side is the cost [Hey it’s more than Liberia!]

This is so far from a 2A issue it’s not even funny.

Really? The right to keep (own) and bear(carry on person at will) shall not be infringed. By blaming inanimate object (guns and drugs) for the actions of people, you and your fellow travelers have done extensive damage to our rights.

Gestapo stop and frisk is only needed where carry rights are non existent. Like NYC.

It’s getting worse under this commie. Going back to pre Guiliani. I sit next to a NYPD at football games.

So you believe convicted criminals should have the right to conceal carry. That’s fine if you believe it, but you and I will have nothing left to talk about.

“It’s getting worse under this commie. Going back to pre Guiliani.”

The murder rate and other crime statistics do not indicate that.

The key has not been the policing or the mayor, but the gentrification that has pushed crime out of the city.

The number of murders has been cut in half since Rudy was mayor.

Why do you suppose that is?

Part of it has to do with the fact that murders were cut by two-thirds when Giuliani was mayor.

Can you extrapolate from that?

Do you really not see the obvious connection between policing and gentrification?

Unless you can provide some telling statistics regarding the percentage of people who are merely “Stopped” and “Questioned” without subsequently being “Frisked”, then I suspect you are arguing a distinction without a difference.

We used to have hundreds in that same period...

In Manhattan, or in the entire city?

That is not what he/she said, and you know it.

Defend New York City all you want, but do not pretend that God-given rights guaranteed us by the 2nd Amendment are not being trampled there.

Not sure of the breakdown by borough but the year I arrived was the worst at 2200 murders (1990)

I don’t think it is much of a stretch to assume what I did. Even if you split it by 5, that is 440 murders per borough.

After all, uptown Manhattan was very “different” back then...

My point is that I don’t think anyone gets murdered based on who happens to be in the mayor’s office.

However, for what ever reason, murders in NYC are at their lowest numbers in 50 years.

And I see that as a good thing.

When Giuliani was in office, from the stats I have seen, the number of murders fell by half, not two thirds and murders have continued to decrease since then and even before when Dinkins was mayor.

Again, nobody gets murdered based in who is mayor.

Increased policing follows gentrification, gentrification does not follow increased policing.
