Why Donald Trump should not be taken seriously or included in the debates

Donald Trump, in his own words…

Trump on Health Care “We must have universal healthcare,” Trump wrote in his book, “I’m a conservative on most issues but a liberal on this one.” In an interview earlier this year he continued to applaud single payer health care systems used in other countries.

Trump on Taxes “I would impose a one-time, 14.25% tax on individuals and trusts with a net worth over $10 million,” Trump said. “For individuals, net worth would be calculated minus the value of their principal residence. That would raise $5.7 trillion in new revenue, which we would use to pay off the entire national debt.”

Trump on Trade Trump has called for “a 20% tax for importing goods,” and a “Twenty-five percent tax on China, unless they behave.”

Trump on Eminent Domain When asked about the 2005 case Kelo v. City of New London, that allowed economic development to be a legitimate reason for government to exercise eminent domain, Trump told Fox News (7/19/05), “I happen to agree with it 100 percent.” Trump was unsuccessful in his own attempt to have officials in New Jersey use eminent domain to condemn a home on property he wanted to buy for part of his hotel and casino.

Trump is sure bringing out the uniparty bootlickers. All their panties seem to be in a wad.

Get the popcorn. It’ll be fun to watch.

One reason why the Club for Growth should not be taken seriously; Mitt Romney.

Well it’s understandable that Trump thinks he’s the best person for the job, thats the way he thinks. I hope the rest of them get infected by Donald’s aggressive speaking points, time to really man up and fast. The country is in more than a little trouble. America is so beyond sick of D.C.

You’re so right. I think Ted Cruz or Scott Walker would make excellent presidents, but they’re both politically entrenched in their thinking, and they are indebted to their big money donors.

Cringing, good to see you. You didn’t post much today. Were you overcome?

“Trump does have good points, including that he likes America, but he’s too erratic and reckless for what should be a thoughtful job.”

I can think of exactly one President in my lifetime who was both thoughtful and competent. He left office in January 1989. He was castigated as a moron and a clown by his opponents. I remember it well.

He’s spent his life letting people know he’s a liberal, and you’re hoodwinked by what he said today?

Dude.

Look the rest of the Republican back is as about conservative as Trump is liberal. Trump is blowing all the cover and it will be open field set piece fight from here on out. This is actually a good thing because labels mean nothing anymore.

“I’m pro-life, but I changed my view a number of years ago. One of the primary reasons I changed [was] a friend of mine’s wife was pregnant, and he didn’t really want the baby. He was crying as he was telling me the story. He ends up having the baby and the baby is the apple of his eye. It’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to him. And you know here’s a baby that wasn’t going to be let into life. And I heard this, and some other stories, and I am pro-life.” - Donal Trump Apr 8, 2011

I don’t buy this ‘conversion.’ I’m much more trusting of someone who chooses a position from principles rather than anecdotal side effects of a policy. Does he need to see a friend become sad at missing a car to be against auto theft?

He wants tariffs.

What's wrong with tariffs? He noted we are paying tariff's to China but they aren't paying tariff's to us. That's why things are so much cheaper buying Chinese goods.

We were watching and my husband kept saying "hey, Trump's your guy!" because everything Trump said, I have said. Build a wall? Yes! Make Mexico do what WE want or break them financially Yes! They let all their losers come over here and one of our guys makes a wrong turn and they keep him in jail and mistreat him for months! A marine no less. Yes, Trump may not be a serious candidate but he is saying things that need said.

“Lets tear them all down, and leave nothing standing.... until Hillary is the victor. I might as well go ahead and vote for her... because nobody else on the other side will work. All of the candidates on the Republican/Conservative side, has “something wrong” that just will not work.”

Thank you! My head hurts when I read through this menagerie of “self-styled pundits.” Trump’s announcement is hardly over and the “amen chorus of negativity” is at full chat. No one of us knows where he’s going to go, at least we can wait a few days to see. At this juncture, the only one that doesn’t make my list is Jeb, because I’m tired of political dynasties.

I do not plan to vote for Trump, but that could change depending upon the early primary results. If I think Bush, Rubio, Christi, Pataki, Perry, Huckster, or any of the the other retreads is going to win over Cruz or Walker, then I might very well support Trump. The way I look at it right now, is that if the GOPe gets its way, and we end up with another Bush-Dole-Bush-McCain-Romney knock-off, then we are going to lose to whomever the Rats put up, and so we might as well put up a populist with a fighting chance.

Yup, block him out of the debates. That’ll work good.

Right.

All he has to do is make a call and he will have all the airtime he wants!

And I say GOOD FOR HIM!

And consider too - half the American population votes for someone they’ve heard of Clinton oh yeah, heard of that name. Bush, oh yeah, heard of that name. At least they’ve heard of Trump - good for the LIV’s and all the people who spend their evenings watching TV (Apprentice) so he’ll get a certain % of votes just for name recognition.

Good Lord, and we thought Mitt Romney was a flip-flopper. Trump will need to be a contortionist to explain some of these positions to conservatives.
