She’s an EMT not a paramedic. Some folks passed in my last class that couldn’t even take a BP.
Was she wagging her head side to side as she spoke? Giant hoop earrings a-shaking? That quote did her in, she was fully aware of the emergency, but thought it was futile.
If the worker had not said this odious remark, and instead claimed she did not respond because she felt overwhelmed due to overwork, she may have gotten away with it.

It was not the dispatchers fault..it was the EMT not following the dispatchers "orders".
Am I missing something?
NYS conducts tests here. You might pass the class but fail the state testing and never get your certification to be an EMT.
Negligent homicide would be a good start.
I’d start throwing charges at her until something stuck.
Somehow most of the facts of the story trickled through the incredibly bad writing. Obviously the writer has spent much time in oxygen deprivation with very few working brain cells remaining.
This sorry excuse for an (ex) EMT should have never been one in the first place, first responders of any kind don’t get to pick and choose what incidents they respond to.
No I’m putting this idiot in the same category as dispatchers who behave the same way.
Detroit has had people die while waiting for police that weren’t coming after dispatchers lied to callers and never dispatched police.
They should be able to charge her, but there is the consideration of the medical problems this baby had. Depending on why she stopped breathing, there may have been little they could really do to keep her alive, so that would play into the negligence. In any case, that woman is a cold hearted bitch and deserves all she gets and more. I do hope this is not the end of it. Losing a job does not begin to get justice.
Thomas parked her unit on a corner a street away from the baby. She and her partner were in a SUV outfitted to be just like an ambulance to help medics get to people faster. But in this case, Thomas refused to go to the house.
Where was her partner during all of this, and what was he/she doing?
Well, Detroit is different.
I am wondering if this poor child lived in a “lighter” neighborhood, thus the refusal. I would not be surprised if this were the case - regardless of the actual race of the child.

Since they didn’t bother to show up there is no way to prove there was nothing to be done, now is there?
In Ohio (Well at least in my county) The partner should have been a Paramed AND in charge being she is an EMT but I don’t know how it works in Michigan.
Obviously college edumacated..................
