Conservative Lawmakers and Faith Groups Seek Exemptions After Same-Sex Ruling
The New York Times ^ | June 26, 2015 | Erik Eckholm

Posted on 06/27/2015 9:33:55 AM PDT by EveningStar

Within hours of the Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage, an array of conservatives including the governors of Texas and Louisiana and religious groups called for stronger legal protections for those who want to avoid any involvement in same-sex marriage, like catering a gay wedding or providing school housing to gay couples, based on religious beliefs.

They demanded establishing clear religious exemptions from discrimination laws, tax penalties or other government regulations for individuals, businesses and religious-affiliated institutions wishing to avoid endorsing such marriages.

The legal protections are in the First Amendment. Did the founders expect the court to strike down the First Amendment?

The last paragraph of the article tells the whole story. They feel it is their right to punish people that disagree with them. I fear that many arrests for homophobia will follow, assets seized, lawsuits filed, churches closed and seized by the Feds. Here is the last paragraph:

This month, in anticipation of the marriage ruling, Senator Mike Lee, Republican of Utah, and Representative Raul Labrador, Republican of Idaho, introduced the First Amendment Defense Act, which would push federal law far beyond the existing religious protections. Sure to be strongly opposed by civil rights groups and most Democrats, the bill would prohibit federal officials from penalizing individuals, businesses, charities or schools for actions based on a conviction that marriage is between a man and a woman.

Churches had better look to their Tax Exempt status under this gang of religion fearing Marxists and their lap dog SCOTUS.

This symbolic noisemaking will end up like the abortion stuff the Republican politicians roll out in their state legislatures.

In this gay marriage situtation, religious protection laws will be shot down by corporate elite pressure like Arizona last year (Romney tweeted against it) and Arkansas and Indiana this year.

Otherise the “ALL WISE” judiciary will shoot it down.

Political noisemaking to keep us on the GOP plantation.

Its probably time to build up a movement of folks ready to resist to the point of getting arrested instead of an angry rabble told by media to hate Dems and Liberals, blame them and vote for the “me too” Republicans.

Many on this forum have often wished for the state of California to fall into the ocean in a major earthquake.

It’s ironic that now, they know exactly what it feels like to live under a tyrannical government/court system like we have here. A clear majority voted down gay marriage here in CA and that majority was overruled by a single degenerate judge.

Welcome to the Golden State.

God Have Mercy On America.

I think it is really “John Galt” time.

The unjust laws-—have to be removed NOW-—we have ENOUGH evil, convoluted “rules and regulations” which set up a system to make lawyers and judges wealthy and set for Life. All these rules and regulations are convoluted-—too legalistic-—destroy Truth, Clarity and just HIDE the basic EVIL LAWS (which should be Null and Void by definition).

This corrupt “Justice” “system”-—needs to be made NULL and VOID-—and we NEED to repeal ALL laws since1910-—and comb through ONLY Constitutional laws and streamline them to make SENSIBLE, coherent Law based on Truth and Virtue (Justice).

Pretending male and female are interchangeable is EVIL and Marxist Gender Theory which belongs in the Soviet Union NOT HERE!!!! It is DEHUMANIZING and REMOVES IDENTITY and SANITY from a person—particularly Reason in children who are exposed to such a vile concept and use of the human body.

We have Individual Natural Rights from God-—which can NEVER eliminate REASON and SCIENCE and Objective Truth (God). Let’s get back to the Truth-—and TRUE meaning of “Justice” (the Queen of Virtue) and Natural Law ( “Rights ONLY FROM GOD-—not man or governments and NEVER irrational evil “rights”)

Correct. Continuing the legal defense and appeals to the courts with a corrupt judiciary is a fool's errand. Unless we can organize millions of Christians for massive civil disobedience, there will be no changes by the state and Christian businesses and churches will become targets for the radical left in charge of the instruments of power.

Our Discipline still defines marriage as one man and one woman but the battle rages as it has for many years. Western and Northern churches are the big promoters and they are armed for battle at the next General Conference in 2016.

Does this administration pay attention to the law let alone the constitution?

I don't see any solution anymore except maybe a few states have the guts and traditional enough population to leave the US, perhaps in connection with an adjoining state.

There's a very nice flag available for use as their symbol for states rights.

The First Amendment only means whatever five Supreme Court legislators say it means—nothing more or less. Given the past 80 years of black robed constitution shredding, I wouldn’t put too much faith in the First Amendment’s ability to restrain government interference regarding the free exercise of religion.

Utter foolishness! The government black robes remove from the Constitution to carve out rights for the rulers over the people’s rights, and the foolish are so dull as to seek the government’s allowance to be exempt. The real problem is the lawlessness of this regime and it’s stooges in black robes! The regime is systematically cancelling the Constitution and folks are begging for exemptions! Please massa can I have anotha?

If five judges won’t follow the First Amendment, why would they follow a statute affirming the First Amendment? They won’t, and the House won’t impeach or the Senate convict.
