Limbaugh: Ted Cruz's Story Shows Clarence Thomas' Kind Heart

Rush Limbaugh says that while liberals continue to demonize Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, his true character can be seen in a story in Sen. Ted Cruz's new book.

Cruz once was a clerk for the U.S. Supreme Court, and told the story about Thomas Tuesday night on Fox News Channel's "The Kelly File."

In his book, "A Time for Truth: Reigniting the Promise of America," GOP presidential hopeful Cruz tells of a young teenage boy who had gotten a chance to visit the court's offices.

Thomas spent two hours talking to the junior high student named Carlos, who, like Thomas, was African American.

Carlos was less impressed with the Supreme Court than he was with Thomas being a Dallas Cowboys fan, Cruz said, including a framed picture he had of himself with quarterback Troy Aikman.

"At the end of two hours, Justice Thomas walked to his desk, and he had on his desk a Super Bowl ticket encased in Lucite that was signed by Emmitt Smith," Cruz said. "He picked it up, he gave it to Carlos. He said, 'Carlos, I'll tell you what. I'm gonna give you this. But I want you to promise me you're gonna get A's in school next year.'"

On his syndicated radio show on Wednesday, Limbaugh played the clip and said the story is indicative of the kind of person Thomas is.

Just like presidential candidate Ben Carson, Thomas is "one of the most decent, finest human beings we have in the country," Limbaugh said. "And yet they're out destroying him, and they've not stopped trying."

Obama does not even help his own family! That is what is so shocking - how nasty he is. He is like some of my own family. Make a big show about charity with other people’s money, but mistreat their own family.

Remember when people came out of the woodwork with stories about Mitt Romney knocking himself out for countless people?

People who have spent their careers promoting the shredding of babies do not have “kind hearts.”

I'd be hard pressed to think of a time when Justice Thomas didn't exercise sound constitutional jurisprudence in deciding a case. Most of the readers here understand that he can be kind to that young person and hand down constitutional decisions. I find it odd that you are conflicted on this.

I'm not "conflicted on this." A justice who strictly decides on the constitutionality of an issue may at time need to set aside his "kind heart" and use his hard head, hardening his heart, when he makes his decision. We do not need "feelings" invading thinking in these particular decisions. They are too important for the individual emotional exigencies of individual cases to muddy the waters of constitutional law. Personally, all of them can be "kind hearted." Keep that in their personal life.

Liberals are not kind hearted in the true Biblical a sense of the word.

If you look at the traditional liberal the only motive for the reason they are viewed as kind is when they have a political agenda behind it to make others of the other extreme of the political spectrum look bad.

Hillary’s concern for the poor and average Joe ?
Check he true motives behind it.

It’s all about emotion especially when she and the democrats want to hoodwink and fool the female voters once again with raw emotions.

They managed to fool the female and black voters last time with Obama giving them a fake Messiah that would come to save them from white male’s slavery and capitialism.

Liberals are not kind in the true sense of the word as in Biblical kindness.

When Liberals are kind there is a political or agenda behind it.

Whatever. I can't figure out what you're whining about. There was no dichotomy introduced in the OP. It is possible to talk about Clarence Thomas' virtues without launching into a screed that truly has nothing to do with him as a Supreme Court Justice. The OP didn't deduce that (a) Justice Thomas is a kind man, thus (b) he can't make a sound constitutional decision. Maybe you heard some voices that led you off in another direction, but, as I said before, his kindness and his ability to make constitutional judgments are not mutually exclusive.

Incidentally, the kind act that Justice Thomas did was in his personal life.

I recommend that you go find a brick wall to argue with. I'm done here.
