Wow, this cop just has no clue. Why would you go there in this current environment. He will be lucky to stay alive let alone keep his job for any length of time.

Glitches in the video are gonna make this situation volatile for sure!

They argue, then Encinia pulls what appears to be his Taser and points it at Bland.

He screams: "Get out of the car! I will light you up! Get out! Now!"

This jerk LEO needs serious jail time.

Given the cop has a hispanic last name, how much does the left really want to push this?

Other FR threads are qustioning whether or not this activist was provoking a confrontation.

The officer played right into the race industry’s hands.

Even now, a black “reverend” from Baltimore is throwing acceleratnt on this.

Wow Texas, the “hits” from your “LEO’s” just keep coming. What with Whacko being a legal travesty, and the cop at the pool party waiving his gun a bunch of blacks, and now this, I think maybe you need to overhaul your law enforcement top to bottom. These people are all Neanderthals and yet they are given guns!

How did she end up in jail for 3 days for a lane violation? Did she have outstanding warrants? This makes no sense but the cop is all done.

If this was really a suicide, then she alone is to blame.

I’ve known for a long, long time that society is disapproving of nicotine, but I didn’t know they would kill you for it.

I saw this video - if they want to protest THIS arrest I am going to be on their side this time.

Unlike idiot Michael Brown and Trayvon, this woman had no reason to be arrested - he is 100% responsible for escalating this rather than calming the situation down.

I know everyone’s instinct is to attack the cop, but he didn’t have anything to do with her death. DPS troopers do not have direct access to the jail cells at the county jail.

In TX, you are required to follow any lawful order given by an officer. You can complain later to his supervisors, the AG, the TX Rangers, but you must comply at the time.

It is standard procedure to ask someone to put out their cigarette because cops don’t want to breath in the smoke, the smoke often masks other smells from liquor or drugs, and because it is a safety issue since people have been known to burn cops with them.

In today’s environment, blacks, muslims, and illegals are getting extremely hostile against cops, even during minor traffic stops because they all think they can get away with it. This lady was an active member of the #blacklivesmatter protest so her attitude was probably extremely hostile. That hostility usually triggers suspicions in cops, thinking that the person could be hiding something or do something illegal, which is why he asked her additional questions. Again, that is normal protocol.

Once she refused to put out the cigarette, he could have walked away, but her refusal also gave him cause to pull her out of the car. If she had only gotten out of the car willingly, then he probably would have asked more questions and let her go. The fact that she refused to get out is why things continued to escalate. Her behavior set off big red flags.

I’ve seen this video compared to another video of a trooper in another State in which the driver was cussing at the trooper and actually tore up the speeding ticket. The trooper remained calm the whole time. The difference between the two encounters is that the guy in the other encounter followed the trooper’s orders, including the order to get out of the vehicle and pick up the torn ticket, and never touched the trooper. If that guy had not followed the orders or had kicked the trooper then he too would have been arrested.

She had a right to cuss and be disrespectful, but not disobey a lawful order. The trooper’s behavior may have been bad policy, but not illegal. However, her refusal to follow a lawful order was illegal.

Seems to me, he pulled her off camera, so no one could dispute whatever he did next.

I heard this on the radio this morning. While it was stupid to make a lit cigarette be the “hill you die on” with a cop, it got me thinking: what right DOES a cop have to tell me to put out a cigarette in my own car? For a traffic stop no less.

It might be a reasonable request if the subject was asked to step out of the car first, on suspicion of some other, more grave offense, and THEN ordered to put the cigarette out. But during a traffic stop? Suck it up Officer Friendly, you’re the one who pulled me over remember?

Cops a jerk. Should never be in law enforcement.

Woman could have defused the whole thing by just being cooperative and polite.

People behaving badly. It’s an epidemic in our messed up society, and nothing good comes of it.

I’m from North TX and last night on the news it was told she asked the officer what she did wrong. They are supposed to tell you. Instead he told her to get out of the car and pulled his taser - for not using your lane change light or not putting out your cigarette? I’m not getting out of my car for that either.

About two weeks ago we had a jerk impersonating an officer right here in DFW and he ordered a young girl out of her car and she refused because she said she had not done anything wrong. Said she would not get out until she called her husband and the PD to check on his name. It likely saved her life as the jerk then ran.

They should throw the book at this cop.

I see people all the time not using turn signals. How many times are people actually pulled over for not using them?

That is such a asinine reason, of course unless it was on a crowded highway and it almost caused a wreck. That doesn’t seem to be the case here.

Also why did the cop ask her to get out of her car and put out her cigarette? I have been pulled over and never have been asked to get out of the car, they usually take your license and write a ticket, if necessary.

So this begs the question was it racial based by the cop?

The badged thug had his feelings hurt violates protocol making stupid remarks, then illegaly makes the threat “I’ll light you up” with a tazer, a tool that has killed quite a few people. Of course, the cops*ckers, blue team, and the associated unions, cop spokespeople are all okay with the device used as if to herd cattle. There is a chance of death, but oh well right? This isn’t acceptable. People who refuse to get up and then a tazer is used violates the force continuum police are trained on. Threatening, pointing that tazer warrants a death sentence under deprivation of rights.
