McConnell and Reid may have just set a 51-vote threshold for passing Obamacare repeal
Washington Examiner ^ | July 24, 2015 | Timothy P. Carney

Posted on 07/24/2015 11:17:28 PM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Next week, Senate Republicans could pass Obamacare repeal with a simple 51-vote majority as part of the long-term highway bill, according to Sen. Mike Lee.

The Utah Republican laid out the argument in a press release after party leaders set the sequencing of votes:

"The first Obamacare vote on Sunday will have a 60 vote threshold, and Democrats will likely block it," Lee continued. "But thanks to the sequencing of the votes we just locked in, Republicans will have the opportunity resurrect that Obamacare amendment later on in the process, and put it back before the Senate in a manner that only requires a simple-majority vote."

After cloture is reached on the Export-Import Bank amendment, senators will still be allowed to offer germane amendments to the highway bill, each of which would only require a simple-majority to pass. If the Chair rules that the Obamacare amendment is non-germane, Senate Rule 22 also allows any senator to appeal that ruling to the full Senate. At that point, a simple-majority of Senators would have the power to add the Obamacare repeal amendment to the highway bill.

If Lee is correct, then Democrats, in order to save Obamacare, would need to kill the highway bill — and thus their effort to restart the expired Export-Import Bank. (Unless, of course, Republicans bail Democrats out and sink the repeal efforts.)

Well look at all the posts from people that flat out don’t want to hear about his history. Look at all the posts that justify his past Dem associations and contributions as ‘just business’.

That’s exactly correct. I Do NOT think a lot of people are aware because they do not WANT to be aware. They want a savior ‘no matter what’. Because they SAY ‘no matter what’.

If you think for a microsecond I’m gonna sit and watch another round of Mitt Romney sycophancy, you are going to be disappointed.

Plenty of good can come from Trump. Let him do it outside the presidency. We have a conservative to get behind. Ted Cruz. He has none of Donald’s baggage, all of his aggression and never to my knowledge said “Sorry Conservatives” while campaigning for their vote. Now what part of that do you suppose is a bad idea?

I think hindsight shows us that when a pol tells you he is going to work against you on one of the major issues, you ought to take him at his word. See Mitch and Jonbon for a VERY recent collection of examples.

Norm, your comments make sense until you got to Romney (well sort of).

Did Romney have a big following here?

Did you honestly think Romney reminded you of Trump, as you see Trump today? Really?

As for folks not wanting to see Trump for who he was a few weeks ago, Norm every one of us saw Trump for who he was two weeks ago. Watching you talk about Trump two weeks ago and beyond is like watching the same Lucy show 75 times, and then having someone come along and tell you about this great Lucy show, and they won’t stop even after you tell them you’ve seen it 75 times. No, they have to tell you the complete dialogue line by line.

Norm, we get it. We got it before you came along to save us from ourselves. What part of this do you not understand?

I watched the Apprentice. Hey, it as something to watch. There were things I detested about the show, but there were some interesting things too.

My take on Trump was neutral at best. I didn’t see him as some brilliant guy. My take on him was that no matter how much money you have made or are making, you’re still a human like the rest of us. Sometimes you don’t listen. Sometimes you’re dismissive. Sometimes you’re dead wrong and don’t realize it.

That’s how I see him today. If he’s going to toe the line, I’ll support him. If he won’t he’s fired.

Read the words "Go Pitbull" makes recall LTC Allen West's "Fix Bayonets" speech...

I hope the people of Texas put that man back in public office.

Best line of that show was the episode they touched on “Christian” rock/and the way kids often just go through it because of a phase/brief fad.

Hank: “You guys aren’t making Christianity any better, you’re making Rock and Roll worse.”

In some ways yes he dose but that wasn’t what I was getting at. The VOTERS are pulling a Romney scenario again. The PEOPLE are sticking their heads in the sand once again because some spoke pretty words they wanted to hear.

I would take Trump over Mitt pretty readily. But thats like asking my preference for AIDS or another serious disease. Personally I’d rather not have either.

Romney’s record was possted for like 6 years on FR’s front page. Few read it. Every day the no matter what idiots would say things that merely reading in that record would prove false. I know this to be true as I was one of the people arguing that very thing and unfortunately still have to. But they did not WANT to know the truth. They wanted what they projected onto Mitt Romney. Things that as Reagan said, ‘Were just not so’. Things that a mere 18 HOURS after his loss he proved were not so.

Today those very same people are the ones doing the very same fantasy routine with Trump. They are projecting their desires onto him as if he were Barry at the Pillars of Styro.

Trump is who he is. Some of it is great, some of it is hard left. And actual conservatives would or SHOULD be interested in finding out which is which for themselves, not pretending he is something other than what their desires want him to be.

....”It is simply not affordable for the average person and therefore an average health care policy is not affordable. Medicine is priced out of reach to society. The cost is not sustainable”.....

Heathcare and Insurance have little to do with affordability....it has to do with revenue flow first and above reasonable costs to the public.....and designed to do just that. When you have severe corruption from Government involvement, and others, skimming off the top, you can be sure that Obamacare is NOT going to be repealed.

Norm, the idea that Romney had as much support here in July of 2011, as Trump does in July of 2015 is a NO SALE with me.

At no time in the 2012 election cycle did a large contingent of people here hawk Romney as the go-to guy.

Those that did were reminded of RomneyCare, which was an absolute deal killer for 90% of the forum.

The only reason Trump is getting traction, is because he moved our direction. We aren’t moving his direction.

Norm I get it and have for some time regarding just what Trump is about......I’m a Cruz supporter and will remain so for obvious reasons.... Even so Trumps not working his so called “Magic” apart from some very real people heavily working and orchestrating with him behind the scenes... who are positioning this race to play out for the duration with the “right” guy coming out on top.

There’s reasons beside the media that Trump’s “on stage”... and it’s not just his flare and hitting the mark the American people want to hear. There’s a plan in operation and what we see is the “result” and the opposition to that plan.

What we saw with Cruz calling out McConnell etc....and Trumps visit to the border sabatoged are all measures and countermeasures of the bigger game going on behind our view.

Remember Cruz said well over a year ago...”the American people do not realize how close we are to taking our country back”....and they don’t for the most part. The battle for it is nasty business and we won’t see the worst of it anymore than we’re seeing now.

Trumps doing what Trumps suppose to be doing....let him roll....and give Cruz room to do whatever and whereever he puts himself in this election. They KNOW what they are doing.....

Doesn’t matter. When the chips were down people voted for the POS and flushed their principles to do it.

In order for that to be untrue they would by definition have to not had principle to begin with. People can say I don’t support X all they want. When they vote, that’s the ultimate support. Why they did it is irrelevant. You can’t be only a little but pregnant.

He -was- the go to guy. 8 figures of people went to him.

That’s a REALLY good way of putting it .....Trumps doing what he’s suppose to be doing.....it’s a fun ride and not as critical as some would like to make “afraid” of. There’s still alot of time before the election....things change.

You might remember I was one of the biggest Palin supporters on FR. Remember all the talk about 3D chess? we were wrong. All of us. She didn’t run.

I am a solid Cruz supporter. There is no 3D chess going on here either. Trump has a set of ideas to get him elected. Cruz has a set of his own. Both love their country. They arent part of some vast right wing conspiracy to challege Spock for the Champion ship.

Norm, eight figures of people from here didn’t vote for him, and that’s what we’re talking about. And yet that isn’t really what we’re talking about even then.

Here we have wide open support for Trump. We never had that for Romney here. We had some reluctant voters for him when there wasn’t any other rational choice.

As for those of us who voted for Romney supposedly betraying our beliefs to do it, I didn’t think putting a fellow traveler of the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda was a particularly gifted decision. Perhaps you did.

It’s one thing to talk about forsaking principles, but what principles do you actually have if you’ll allow Obama to be president for four more years?

Nothing Obama was doing or would likely do was worth stopping him? Really?

OK. Probably 90% of FR forsook principles and voted for a man whose record was MORE liberal than Barrys as a Senator.

The most conservative actually won.

Sorry. You cannot rewrite history. Facts are facts. The two were lockstep/ Except Barry actually opposed gay marriage once and Mitt did not. He was the father of gay marriage in America, created Obamacare, appointed the most left wing judges and a ton of other insanity. Thats fact. Thats reality. And for anyone to vote for that insanity was an act on non thinking fear or an act of voting with depraved indifference to constitutional governance.

WTF did people expect to get? Hope or Change of their own?
