Our nation is cursed. How much longer can we condone and endure the sins of our elected officials (notice I didn’t say leaders because there are few) and expect GOD to bless us as a nation?

Yes, GOD will judge McConnell, but GOD’s judgment is upon our nation for allowing the shedding of innocent blood. Abortion on demand is draining the life blood of our nation and must be stopped. The funding of PP with our taxpayer money must be stopped.

McConnell, and others who took the Oath to defend the Constitution, must be called out when they fail to support our Constitutional rights as citizens (some alive but unborn). If they misuse their authority to lead us in other directions they must be accountable. We gave them the power and we must take it back. Everyone who fails to vote or fails to condemn these people and the atrocities they support shares in the blame and the destiny of our nation.

Do not be deceived, GOD willing, we can take back our nation. I do not believe it is our destiny to fail. We need new leadership that are representative of our beliefs and support the Constitution.

Meanwhile, it’s time for McConnell to go.

I must admit I’m a bit surprised. I thought it would clear the Senate get vetoed and die. But this?!

AND Senator Turtle voted AGAINST it?!!! WTFreak man! What could possibly be his rationale!?

I did state the obvious. I stated facts which are objective and indisputable. You stated information is objectively and indisputably false. That makes it pretty clear. Your argument is circular with no foundation - like arguing with most liberals - I would suggest not trying emulate their debate tactics any further.

Nope. My “foundation” is based on the past several years of backstabbing by the beltway GOP. I’m stating the obvious and you are playing dumb to the machinations of Team Beltway. We’ve seen this movie before. It has a bad ending.

You know very well PP defunding will never pass as a stand alone bill. That’s why McConnell and Reid set it up this way. They don’t want to defund PP and apparently you are fine with that.

-- Please ping me when Mr. McConnell actually allows that to happen...during the first session of this Congress, please. --

Oh, I'm sure it'll be news.

My mission in making repeated posts on this thread is a futile attempt to correct rampant misunderstanding of what cloture is; to point out that a failed cloture motion does NOT kill the underlying bill; that as long as the bill is alive, multiple cloture motions can be filed in an attempt to limit debate; and that this bill is not the only available vehicle for defunding PP.

But all that is just procedure. On the substance of it, the GOPe wants this issue to go away. The GOPe wants the federal government to fund PP, and if it can, it wants to make it appear otherwise, and use the issue to fool the people into thinking voting makes a difference.

One would assume you would bring the bill up when you have the votes, not ring it up and then don’t have the votes and look stupid.

Exactly correct. Why would McConnell bring up a cloture vote he knew was going to fail? Unless he just wanted to give some cover to the GOP on a fake “defund PP” vote?

Now the GOP critters will go back to their districts and strut about. Proudly telling their constituents they “voted to defund PP but those meanie Dems blocked it”.

Of course nothing of the sort actually happened but all the GOP cares about is cover on the issue. They have no interest in actually defunding PP.

1) McConnell voted “no” because that privileges him, as Majority Leader, to bring it up again.

2) There is no chance - ZERO - that the Senate will de-fund planned parenthood.

Can citizens challenge a sitting Majority Party leader in the Senate based on suspected brain death?

Hey, it may be our only shot.

It’s so transparent to anybody paying attention. And Reid is in on McConnell’s game. He probably extracted a concession for going along with McConnell’s beltway game. A few judges or something.

The Dems really don’t have anything to lose allowing a vote on this since the GOP will never vote to defund PP.

Yes, this gives the Turtle a chance to bring back the bill later, maybe after video #200!

Please don’t bother us with the facts. We’d rather have another excuse to bitch and moan.

The “No” vote by McConnell is explicable — and a common parliamentary technique used by Majority (and Minority) Leaders.
Specifically, a Senator who votes “No” on a bill has the right to bring the issue up for reconsideration at any time in the future (a Senator who votes “Yea” cannot do this).

Traditionally, the Leaders vote last — so they know the outcome when they cast their vote.

McConnell’s an establishment turd...but you can’t use this particular vote against him.

As a FReeper since 2012, I’m surprised you’re unaware of this particular gambit.

So what was the reason we had to bring back McConnell, Boehner and the rest of the RINOs?

I am a Lofty Lenhart so don't ask me!

He probably did it so he can bring it to the floor again. I don’t like McConnell one bit but this is often done by the leader so he can vote to bring it to the floor for reconsideration. to do that you have to have voted for the winning side.

Hold your horses, I’m no fan of McConnell but there is a certain priviledge when the Senate Majority leader votes no on a bill. It means he can bring it up for a vote again whenever he wants. It’s like a mulligan.

Not that I think anythings ever going to happen. Just be angry for the right reason.
