Three North Carolina men fearing a government takeover and martial law stockpiled weapons, ammunition and tactical gear while attempting to rig home-made explosives, according to charges announced by the Justice Department on Monday.

The men from Gaston County, near Charlotte, were arrested by federal authorities on Saturday after more than a month's investigation.

Walter Eugene Litteral, 50, Christopher James Barker, 41, and Christopher Todd Campbell, 30, are accused of stockpiling guns and ammunition, as well as attempting to manufacture pipe bombs and live grenades from military surplus "dummy" grenades, according to the statement by Acting U.S. District Attorney Jill Westmoreland Rose and FBI Special Agent in Charge John Strong.

Dear Acting U.S. District Attorney Jill Westmoreland Rose:

Were your charges politically motivated? Why you may ask (as you look down your nose at the peon who posed the query)?

Well Jill, I have problems believing anyone with a hyphenated last name, and anyone who is awaiting a position in the 0bama regime. Honey.

More info from this local news outlet:

The trio is charged with conspiracy to violate laws governing firearms and explosive devices.

Campbell is also charged with receiving, possessing and making a firearm – which definition includes a destructive device.

Federal investigators raided a business in Belmont and homes in Gastonia and Mount Holly during the investigation Saturday.

No, but if we wait a few months L4B will try to enact that via his ‘executive action’ dictatorship of the degenerates. I suspect making pipe bombs and live grenades is sort of against the law? Stupid, too.

Didn’t realize that “stockpiling” guns and ammo was illegal.

So arrest the felon. This is just another in a long line of Lame Stream Media (MSM) scripting of the dangerous, evil gun owners. Personally, I think the bombs are more to worry about then the guns.

When it’s illegal to prepare for martial law—prepare for martial law.

Bigtime federal offense - even having the materials can be spun into a criminal offense.

There are cases where people with carpet padding and 2 liter plastic bottles were convicted of a federal offense. US v. Mitchell

Only if you fall in the category of mentally deficient. Which, btw is coming to people like us so that can seize what we have.

As I said in post # 29, I think the bombs are more (far more) to worry about than (any of) the guns!

Which raises an interesting point. The Founders gave us the 2nd Amendment in order to protect/defend ourselves against a totalitarian and/or oppressive government. If the citizenry is to be able to protect/defend itself against such a government, should not the citizens have the same weapons as government?

What I think that is important lesson here is maintaining operational security. The Feds are putting more emphasis on mastering the human domain/terrain (a la Jade Helm)
Of course it’s important to keep your mouth shut, but that must be balanced with the need to remain in contact with other like minded preppers. You really need to know who your dealing with and any new or prospective members of a group need to have a background check. It’s likely that these guys were careless and someone called in a tip. A paper trail is not a good thing when buying ‘stuff’ like fireworks, road flares.
In future, the Feds are going be doing a lot more infiltration.

In some states it is legal for a felon to have a firearm in his home for protection after so many years (depending on state)

Idaho law allows for felons accused of certain felonies (basically if it's not on the list here) to retain their rights after time served.
