Just asking because I don't know: has ANY other candidate urged shutting down the gubment over this? Did Cruz or Walker? Again, I don't know.

This is what people like about Trump. This is what should be done NOW. It’s not a campaign issue or a subject we need to compromise about.

The only real action taken, as far as I’ve heard, is Jindal has done something to remove the funding in his state.

If the GOP crowd of candidates can’t communicate some passion like this, they’ll never overcome Trump. People are mad.

The Repuglicans will refuse to shut it down because they fear it will hurt them at the Voting Booth!

Defund Planned Parenthood? Fine. But abortion on demand goes right ahead, business as usual. Defunding is a small start.

I’m getting to the point where I’ll believe Republicans again when someone else votes them in and they actually do the right thing.

Meanwhile this corrupt Republican House and Senate will keep funding everything Obama wants. The debt just keeps soaring. As for the Democratic side...we never had any faith in them. The Republicans have been useless.

“[the shutdown]... Hurt the Republicans...” Where is the proof of that. We cannot accept the premise in this case.

I was watching them on the New Hampshire forum last night and I think all of them were. Maybe not Bush; I tend to tune him out. But the rest were all for it.

Abortion on demand.

Targeting mothers for their aborted fetuses in order to sell them for a profit.

The Senate of the United States of America does not see anything wrong with this. How far have we fallen...

God’s wrath will be upon us soon, and it will be well deserved.

Good for Trump on this. I’d add that Cruz has shut down the government before....and took a sh-tload of trouble for it - but I bet he is on board with this.

Actually yes but I don’t expect anyone to do any research in the midst of their Trumpasms.

Good gawd! I could swear Donald has Ted Cruz planted into his brain and heart. I am beginning to really like the idea of President Trump.

Yes of course Ted Cruz has been most passionate about shutting down government to defund PP because that is what it would take! The way McConnell has screwed up the PP defunding by not attaching it to the highway bill (which Ted heroically pointed out last week) and by having the little weasel Rand Paul bring it up as a show vote, there is no consequence when Obama threatens to veto it. It simply dies one way or the other.

But the highway bill can has been kicked down the road for 5 months. So when it comes back up for funding, then attach a PP defund rider and let Obama veto a must-pass bill that shuts down highway funding. Also a new CRomnibus is coming in September; same thing, either defund PP or shutdown the government. All of these measures have been articulated by Ted Cruz.

At least Trump states it honesty and clearly,

All the rest say they would never shut down the government, when at the same time some of the same are calling for it on TV and talk radio.

We were all supposed to claim the same, that we were all for a shutdown, but Cruz was against one, but we support him for shutting it down...???

Too complicated.

Republicans were badly hurt in 2013 by the government shutdown, which was triggered by an effort to defund ObamaCare.

They keep repeating this crap. How exactly did it hurt them? A negative editorial in the NYT? Truth is the Republicans and Democrats both are equally vested in the electorate not discovering we can live without them.

“Republicans were badly hurt in 2013 by the government shutdown, which was triggered by an effort to defund ObamaCare.”

Yep....so badly hurt that they won both houses in 2014 (only to later squander that good will).
