Trump widens lead over U.S. Republican presidential field: Reuters poll (Now 32% pulling away)

Republican Donald Trump is pulling away from the pack in the race for the party's U.S. presidential nomination, widening his lead over his closest rivals in the past week, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed on Friday.

Republican voters show no signs they are growing weary of the brash real estate mogul, who has dominated political headlines and the 17-strong Republican presidential field with his tough talk about immigration and insults directed at his political rivals. The candidates are vying to be nominated to represent their party in the November 2016 general election.

Nearly 32 percent of Republicans surveyed online said they backed Trump, up from 24 percent a week earlier, the opinion poll found. Trump had nearly double the support of his closest competitor, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who got 16 percent. Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson was third at 8 percent.

Even when Trump was pitted directly in the poll against just his top two competitors, 44 percent backed him. Bush won about 29 percent of respondents, and Carson 25 percent.

"He's not taking any guff from anybody," Dewey Stedman, 70, a Republican from East Wenatchee, Washington, said of the publicity-loving billionaire. "If you don't have something in your brains, you're not going to have billions of dollars."

Betcha we still get Jeb for the nominee.

Only if Trump is removed from the Repub race, and it would be involuntarily - by death (natural or unnatural) or by exclusion.

If it's by exclusion, then Jeb may be the Repub nominee, but that will be the end of the Republican Party (and Trump still becomes President as a third ticket).

A lady called Rush’s show today, talked with Mark Steyn, and her take was that since Trump was drawing huge crowds in the same fashion that Obama did, then that means Trump was another Obama. I kid you not. I suppose, for her, the key would be to go down the list and pick Linda Graham, who can’t draw three people.

“If Boner and Mc Turtle did what they promised there would not be a D. Trump.”

Amen! Recently I got an expensive mailing from each of them wanting money. I sent back an adios and said they they should be fired for not doing what we elected them for.

A few other old goats like me did basically the same thing without getting together before our individual actions. We discussed it yesterday after church in our patio. 7+ months after the first of the new year. They have done nothing.

I totally believe that’s why Trump is doing so well.

The media (including Reuters) is again picking the GOP candidate... how nice.

You're not the only one who has noticed.

Since when do FReepers trust Reuters? When it has a poll showing Trump ahead.

You are correct in pointing out how liberal Trump is. And to his supporters I ask, name one liberal you trust. If you can't, why do you trust liberal Donald Trump?

Trump could stop Boehner from getting reelected no problem.

He should do it.

Uh oh ... you should have posted her name, too, if you know it.

Sounds like they’re a little scared about the truth coming out.

America is STARVING for NATIONALISM and PATRIOTISM. What happened to our space program? Are they too busy downloading child porn to make America proud? Where's our military? Under 0dumbo it's as though our military doesn't even exist, other than applauding women in combat or other LGBT CR*P.

Trump brings NATIONALISM and PATRIOTISM to the forefront, and this is what America is DESPERATE FOR TODAY. He's made it clear whose side he's on: AMERICA'S SIDE AND HE WILL FIGHT AND WIN FOR AMERICANS domestically and abroad. Yes, Cruz does too just not in such a flamboyant and colorful way.

If Trump flames out, Cruz will move to the top, not Bush. Trump is costing Bush a lot of supporters.

All the experts said he peaked at 24. As the field diminished, that support would go to somebody other than Trump. Hmm.
