I Like Donald Trump. I REALLY do. But...
Vanity ^ | 8/29/2015 | Self

Though this is a vanity, I have linked to the foundational source of my point.

I REALLY like what the Trump is saying. I like his attitude, I lake his effectively destroying PC and his takedown of the MSM. I like seeing all the liberal and GOPe heads exploding. I especially like him running a screen for Cruz.

But I would be very concerned about a Trump presidency. If you look at his stances in the past and some that are current and couple that with is personality, attitude and MO, and imagine him as the "strong man" in the article in the link, you will see where I am coming from.

Opinions vary.

And I’m not selling anything. I’m asking for thoughtful consideration of the “t-chart”, if you will.

And I hope he keeps going with his hammering of the MSM.

I actually agree with that. It is one of his positive facets.

Thing is, in a very real way, right now Trump is simply selling a different brand of “hope and change” and, just like the last time, is not getting into real specifics of what that “hope” and “change” really is.

We know how that worked out last time.

I am with you as a concern troll regarding Trump.

While I really appreciate how he has handled the msm and the standard GOPe, I am watching his comments and past performance closely. I am still not sure how much of an original intent and constitutional conservative he is.

But as P-Marlowe has pointed out, Trumps coattails will be very long. Will those coattails bring in real original intent and constitutional conservatives or GOPe milquetoast leftists? I don’t know yet. And what about his cabinet, same question. And what about his Supreme Court nominees, same question.

Excellent post. I am terrified of the deification of Trump by some of his supporters. The way that they don’t care about the rest of his views provided he attacks illegals and the liberal media really scares me. Because it reminds me of the early rise of Hitler where his supporters didn’t care about his views on government provided he would prevent a communist takeover of Germany and kept them distracted by blamed the rest of the countries problems on the Jews.

Yes. It’s not about Trump. It is about ANY man who is extremely popular. I applied this reasoning to Reagan and decided the risk was very low, and voted for him.

I may find the same thing with Trump, but I am concerned about my conservative brethren that are not really looking at him from all angles. The “at least he’d be better than Hillary” mantra doesn’t fly with me. He could actually be WORSE if he has huge popular support as well as the ego and guts to just do whatever the heck he wants. And even that last sentence is not about Trump. It is about the heart of man, of which Trump is a member.

If any of us could have had the long view, would we have wanted to stir up the pot in a country, half-conquering it then waltzing out to leave anarchy?

It’s not like America was able to promise that whoever succeeded GWB would carry the torch.

We could argue either side of this endlessly.

Regardless who patriots elect as president in 2016, remember that the incumbent presdent got into the Oval Office by reading teleprompters.

Exactly. And who that damns is not the president. It damns the electorate.

This is my concern here - the electorate.

My POV at this point is they’re all the same, except Trump.

Trump and Cruz.

My whole point is that as good as he sounds and may actually be, there may be risk of him becoming the “strong man”. Read the OP link to see, in simplified form, how it happens.

Yes, it could even happen to us.

Cruz has brains; Trump, brawn.

Surely nobody has missed that the two have been intensively conferring?

.....”Who is most likely to be able to cut through the “junk” in such a moment.....I could think of worse possibilities than Donald Trump”....

So are we again going to vote for the less then the worst? That makes no sense at all when there are good men to choose from.

You are aware I'm in Cruz's court and we all know he is a walking Constitutionalist who has long fought for Conservatism.... and has actively opposed the Establishment many times, often alone in doing so.

So we do have a "better" choice....and imo I do think Trump will stand aside and Cruz will be ushered in.....we have yet to see Cruz's moment which will not be until the stage is set for just that.

“Trump is more of a populist”

Yes. And a salesman.

He knows what to say to his clients.

If he were to get the nomination his client base would broaden to the general populace and populist rhetoric to get the bulk of America on board would probably be very different than his current rhetoric.

The way he could be (or Obama has been) allowed to be a strong man is by everyone else being weak men.

There is another answer to the conundrum, and that’s to elect a milquetoast. Hello Jeb?

But to me that strikes me like complaining about getting a tall glass of water because you might drown in it.

“With Trump you get some important turn around action on executive orders and stuff done.”

I am probably going to get flamed for saying this. I am trying to say this in a general tone and not personally.

Maybe it’s just me, but I find rule by executive orders very scary.

Rule by executive orders is generally not constitutional, and is really indicative of a dictatorship and tyranny. I don’t want anyone doing it, republican or democrat. If we (constitutional conservatives) find managing this country acceptable by the use of executive orders, then we have no right to complain when Obama does it, or Hillary does it.

At this point Trump is doing something no one else is doing: standing up to BOTH the dems and RINO pubs, as well as liberal media. He is actually fighting and exposing the enemy, which must be done. His actually policies are unknown and questionable, but they couldn't possibly be as bad as the enemies he is opposing.

How would you rate Trump on a liberal scale compared to BO at 100%? Hillary is 100%, McCain was like 75%, Romney 70%, Bush 60%. Maybe Cruz is 10%. Suppose Trump is worse case 50%. That's still better than anyone fielded in recent decades and stops the liberal momentum.

Trump may have an ability to be a true leader and surround himself with people better and less liberal than himself. He indicates that he genuinely cares about America.

His actions indicate that he won't bow down and needlessly compromise with the enemy / liberals. He doesn't have a need to be liked.

He seems to have a head on his shoulders, although subject to excessive verbal spewing. His opinions change, not for political reasons, but because of better information or better understanding. When was the last time you saw that?
