Howie Carr: Obama’s renaming of Mount McKinley an outrage
Boston Herald ^ | September 1, 2015 | By Howie Carr

Posted on 09/01/2015 12:35:13 AM PDT by Brad from Tennessee

What if William McKinley had been gay? I guarantee you this posthumous indignity would not have been visited upon him.

I mean, when it comes to political correctness, doesn’t President McKinley measure up?

He was a veteran of the Civil War — that means he fought to free the slaves.

He was assassinated, in other words a victim of senseless gun violence.

He twice defeated a rabid anti-Semite by the name of William Jennings Bryan — remember the “Cross of Gold” speech? Bryan pioneered the use of the ethnic slurs that MSNBC calls dog whistles — “Rothschilds!” was his favorite. Bryan later became secretary of state under fellow Democrat racist Woodrow Wilson, and still later he was the lead prosecutor in the Scopes monkey trial. In other words, Bryan was a bitter clinger.

But none of the above matters. McKinley was a Republican, which means he must be evil. President Obama would no sooner cut McKinley slack than he would attend the funeral of Deputy Darren Goforth.

Obama yesterday officially renamed Alaska’s Mount McKinley as Denali, the original Native American-inspired name for the tallest peak in North America.

Doesn’t matter that the mountain has the same name as an SUV — this was Obama sticking it to the Man, even though he is the Man. . .

What was the name prior to 1901? Did Alaska have any say in the matter when the name shifted after 1901?

Most all locals refer to it under the original name. I don’t see the big issue to get all peeved about....or is this more of the fake republican enthusiasm to get people charged over nothing because nothing ever gets accomplished? Can’t Ohio folks just find one tall hilltop in their state and rename it after McKinley...that way they can visit once in their life and feel thrilled?

The native Athabascan people call the mountain Denali, meaning "The Great One."

Change the name to Mount Mark or Mt. Levin.

If we ever get a conservative republican as as president, I hope he/she will reverse all of the Obungler's executive orders, but I am not confident that will happen.

The larger issue is, it’s illegal for Obama to unilaterally change the name of mountain. Abuse of power, even on “unimportant” issues, isn’t nothing.

I agree with you 100%.

It isn’t the name change itself, Denali sounds more interesting to me than McKinley anyway, but it is the abuse of power and the pandering that infuriates me.

I don’t watch television, but my wife does, and as I walked into the house she had the NBC evening news (I guess that’s the one that has the silly looking black guy with the glasses who replaced Brian Williams) and they were interviewing some liberal moonbat who was saying “How dare we change the name from the one the ancient native americans used...” and that was enough for me.

There is nothing more insufferable and nonsensical than a liberal woman that has taken up the cause of Native Americans, especially if they went to college to specialize in it.

I am not so offended at this, experienced hikers all it DENALI and always have, almost none call it Mt McKinley
However, Obama is not a hiker. Obama did this because it sticks a finger in the eye of all ‘folks’ as he calls them...

Cape Canaveral->Cape Kennedy->Cape Canaveral (1963-1973)

And on his first day in office President Trump will rename every mountain in California...’Mount Mud.’

We’ll see how the liberals like POTUS Trump using his pen and phone to change everything.

Every mountain in every liberal state will be Mount Mud.

Some whites didn’t react to the attempt to erase Southern culture because they didn’t realize it was simply a small part of the larger war on the WASP culture that built this country; now they know better. We’ll probably have Indians on our money now, and change it from dollars to “paper wampum”...

The people in Alaska want this. That’s good enough for me. They have been asking for this for decades. Bush should have done this ages ago.
