Donald Trump, apparently assuming he will secure the White House, tweeted on Monday evening that he would reverse the decision announced by President Obama to change the name of Alaska's Mount McKinley back to the traditional name Denali, saying it is an affront to the Buckeye State.

Trump knows how many electoral votes Ohio has compared to Alaska.

I don’t think Obama had any authority or standing to change the name in the first place.

WTF is the federal government doing naming mountains anyway? Let the state of Alaska name it.

Alaska already renamed it Denali years ago. They have repeatedly asked the Feds to recognized it, but Ohio has repeatedly blocked them.

I recall when they changed the name of Cape Canaveral to Cape Kennedy back in the ‘60’s. I also recall them having to change its name back because it was apparently improper (illegal?) to change the name of a geographic place - I don’t remember the details behind it, tho...

I understand his intentions, but really this is not the hill to die on, so to speak.

Apparently the Alaskans have wanted it renamed for years. I get it that Ohioans are offended, but the mountain isn’t in Ohio. They can name a mountain in OH after McKinley, if they can find one there.

Trump knows how many electoral votes Ohio has compared to Alaska.

The average voter in Ohio has probably never heard of Prsident McKinley much less that he was from Ohio. The average Alaska voter has called the mountain Denali all their lives.

Build the wall first, then worry about Denali.

You’re sayin’ what I’m thinkin’.
He would be doing the same thing that POS is doing.
It’s not like Obama issued and Executive Order, in which case he could reverse it. Caution.

For decades the state of Alaska, not just a few natives, have tried to get the original name of Denali restored.

http://www.newsminer.com/news/local_news/denali-to-be-restored-as-name-of-north-america-s/article_c5444ce4-4f4d-11e5-80ac-4b3fcffe6182.html

The peak’s official name has been a long-running irritation for many Alaskans, since William McKinley never saw the mountain or even set foot in Alaska before he was assassinated early in his second term. A prospector informally named the mountain after McKinley in the late 1800s, and the name was adopted by Congress two decades later.

Gov. Jay Hammond and the Alaska Legislature first asked that the name be formally restored to Denali in 1975. The Alaska Geographic Board has recognized the name of the peak as Denali since then, putting it at odds with its official federal designation as Mt. McKinley.

I don’t think Obama should be naming mountains, and I don’t think the feds should either. Even though the feds have control of it, the mountain happens to sit in the state of Alaska. Alaskans should be the people who have the naming rights In this case, it appears that Alaska wants it named Denali. They tried to have it renamed, but failed. They all called it Denali. Then name it Denali.
Ohio can name something in their state McKinley. They do not have the right to force a politicians name on another states mountain.
If Obama decided to rename Mt Rainer ( in my state), that would be a different matter. First, Obama should not be naming mountains. Secondly, a lot of people like the name Rainier.
Changing the name should be with the approval of the residents of the state. Trump should stay out of this issue.

The entire Ohio Congressional delegation, Rep and Dem, want it changed back.

I don't know how you came to the conclusion that the "average voter in Ohio has probably never heard of President McKinley much less that he was from Ohio." I bet that Ohio, like every state I know of, provides students with a history of their state, especially Ohio the "Mother of Presidents."
