27-Year-Old Video of Donald Trump Surfaces. You'll Want to Watch This.

During a 1988 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Donald Trump discussed the prospect of running for president someday, saying, “probably not, but I do get tired of seeing the country ripped off.”

Though the billionaire businessman admitted that he didn’t have “the inclination” to run, he also said he “would never want to rule it out totally” for the future.

“I just probably wouldn’t do it, Oprah. But I do get tired of seeing what’s happening with this country,” he said.

If Trump was fed up with the state of the nation back then, he must be livid now, which would certainly explain his move to throw his hat in the ring for a 2016 presidential bid.

Great stuff. He was also at the 88’ convention:

The Republican convention....when he was supposedly a democrat according the anti-trump cabal...

This was a very good find.

The video puts the lie to those Trump detractors who say that Trump is only recently a conservative. If I was just listening and did not see the video, I would think that this was an interview Trump was doing today. That's how consistent he was 30 years ago to what he is saying today.

Of course, Trump had a nice thing or two to say about the liberals running for president at that time. I think in his position as a prime real estate developer in NYC, he really needed to at least give the appearance of political neutrality.

It's kind of like how I act when I go to work. I never say bad things about any politician. Otherwise, I'd lose half my clients! And most likely my position as well. I save my distaste of liberals for Free Republic and the voting booth.

I’m a half-hearted Trump supporter and haven’t seen The “cult of personality” aspect- at least no more than whoever is ahead seems to attract.
But I pondered your idea with the effort your reasonableness deserved and I believe I see an emotional response to the vicious and aggressive way he deals with the media.
Rationally, that kind of behavior towards such a predatory enemy is only good strategy of course. But one also tends to feel good- in general- about someone who successfully pursues a difficult but necessary course.

Trump wasn’t a democrat. He has been conservative his whole life.

Wrong. Completely, factually wrong.

According to the New York City Board of Elections, Trump has changed his party affiliation five times since registering as a Republican in Manhattan in 1987. A form that year notes he had previously been registered in the Jamaica Estates neighborhood of Queens, where he grew up, but his prior affiliation was not identified.

Trump’s affiliations have gone back and forth since then. Here’s a quick look:

Month and year of registration:

Party affiliation

July 1987 Republican

October 1999 Independence Party

August 2001 Democrat

September 2009 Republican

December 2011 No party affiliation (independent)

April 2012 Republican

From 2000-2010 Trump was a Democrat for more than 8 years. You can claim he was a conservative Democrat if you'd like, but his own words on countless polices including abortion indicate otherwise. Yes, he was a Democrat for long periods of time and no he wasn't conservative his whole life.

I have walked the streets of Chicago distributing democratic campaign material. Because I was in my young 20’s and was under the spell of JFK, who was a different type of democrat than today’s democrats. JFK was the first president to cut taxes in my lifetime. His speech on why taxes should be cut is now used by likes of Rush Limbaugh.

Does that mean I am ruined for life? I became eligible to vote in 1972, and never voted for a single democrat since then. Because I matured and saw the light.

I will take a chance on “flaming liberals” as you call Trump family, over the lying SOB’s, which are the career GOP politicians. If the career politicians tried to do what they promised before each election, Trump would never appear on the scene. Trump is a creation of not just the GOP elites, but of all of the career republican politicians. That is why Trump, Carson, & Carly are leading the polls. People must be waking up.

2. Corker Bill “yea” vote
3. H1B visas by 500%

This is what happened to Cruz.

Good point... but “flaming liberals”.. NAh!.. way to much..

Crony Capitalists are marginally better..

you know.......... if you MUST PICK yer corruption...
At least pick the ones that are kind of embarrassed by it..

Liberals are proud of the booty they stole form the US Treasury..
HELPING the poor all the way to the bank.. (their bank)..

We need to do to those countries the same thing they do to us. Tariffs will work, it won't take much or take a long time for the other countries to drop their barriers.

Go Trump go!

I completely understand hat we are. And who we are. I understand in both the fairytale political world that you believe exists. I also understand that our government and our system is a farce that neither you or I could ever begin to change.

You use that all you want. Since I wrote that, Trump has come out strong in support of gun rights and protecting Christians in the US and abroad. Oh, and he’s refused to let the PC media railroad him with quotes taken out of context, edited and blown all out of proportion. Most GOP candidates would have waved the white flag, Trump comes back swinging.

Go, Trump, go!

No. Not at all.

Your congress does not change no matter who is in charge.
Your President is more concerned with his golf game than his country.
Your Judiciary makes up new rules without the consent of the governed.

You can believe that the government of our youth, and the principles that we were raised on still exist.

I recognize that they changed a long time ago. I recognize that our representatives are corrupt. I recognize that compromise, which used to be an accepted tool, is now a profane term. I recognize that our government lies to coverup their failures in an effort to prevent outright revolution.

This is not going to end well.

We have the choices they present us. Our elections are as fixed as the USSR’s were. We will spend the next 15 months pretending that we might just make a difference.

You and I both know the only way things in our government are going to change, is to change them. I pray it happens at the ballot box. But, my pragmatic side is not so optimistic.

I have been watching ALL the Apprentice episodes, gave me a very good insight into how he deals with brown nosers and back stabbers, plus he saw through every single mind game played upon him. And turned it right around. Big time.

Which makes Ted Cruz running for President all the more GROOVEY...
