Tragic News About Country Legend Glen Campbell – PLEASE PRAY!

Country legend Glen Campbell has been struggling with severe memory loss due to Alzheimer’s disease. A horrible disease in which there is yet not a cure.

Now, we learned from his wife Kim that the legend is in the sixth of the seven stages of Alzheimer’s, which means he has lost all ability to communicate.

This is tragic! He is responsive to family, but the disease can make him extremely combative at times:

Kim, Campbell’s wife of 33 years, says the Country Music Hall of Famer has entered the sixth of the disease’s seven stages so his communication has diminished considerably and he has, as many Alzheimer’s patients do, become prone to physical outbursts. One resulted in a black eye for Kim.

“He can become extremely combative if you try to redirect him to something that he doesn’t want to do,” she explained to the newspaper. “I have a black eye right now. I know that’s not him, that’s not who he is; it’s just the Alzheimer’s.”

Very sad...a classy guy. Proud of his Scottish heritage.

I don’t know Mr. Campbell. He is also not a Freeper or (as far as I know) related to a Freeper.

Regardless, prayers up.

I watched Wrecking Crew last night. Absolutely wonderful - thanks for putting the link up for everyone else who hasn’t seen it. Tommy Tedesco and Glen Campbell - the best guitar players ever born

More specifically: “May Christ protect you and bring you home to His house after your travails.” Yeah, it’s simple. But that’s from the heart.

. . . oh, Merle Travis and Eldon Shamblin will be one hell of a group with Glen Campbell in Heaven.

. . . along with Bob Wills, of course

Glen’s last few albums have been terrific. The disease that was taking him is nowhere in evidence, even on the last one. His courage in continuing to tour and record is inspiring, and his music has truly been top-notch, right to the end.

Thank you for posting. My favorite Glen Campbell song. Beautiful and timeless. He is a treasure. God bless him.

There is a potential break through in scanning ultrasound treatment (click) to restore memory in alzheimer victims. Hold on, Glen! With nothing to lose, I wonder if his family can arrange for human testing of this therapy. The world is a better place with Glen Campbell in it, if even for a little while longer.

Such a hideous disease. I know his name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

Father, he’s prepared. Please call him home and free him from the shackles of earth and this disease. Comfort and strengthen his loved ones for the journey. Lord, we thank You for the gift of talent you imparted in Glen and for the enjoyment we had over the years as a result of that talent. May the seeds Glen sowed and watered in his walk with You find good soil and experience supernatural maturity and growth in the things of God, and may Your Name be glorified. Lord, draw all souls to You by Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ holy Name.

I half suspected you would be in the dark. Doctors in these cases frequently will not tell the family much unless you drag it out of them.

And in cases like your fathers they more often than not do little to find out what the causes of these changes really are.

Unless an aged patient has an active and aggressive advocate for their care the attending physician often does little more than stop in the patient’s room once a week and bills Medicare.

My family saw this behavior with my grandmother when she was in a nursing home.

She had a gangrene on the heel of her foot and my brother spotted it. It had to have been there growing for at least a few days. If he had not spotted it my grandmother could have lost her foot or her life.

Don’t trust nursing homes to care for you loved ones. If they have to be in one visit often. Educate yourself about their illnesses. Ask probing questions about their care. Make sure they are doing what they are supposed to be doing and Keep on top of the doctors in charge of their care. Try to be there when the doctor visits.

Glenn Campbell. Pure talent.

George Putnam. Wow. Flash from the past. He was in the Rose parade for 45 years and was heard on KRLA 870 in 2003. I listened for a few weeks. Yawn. Journalists with a liberal bent are just plain boring.

Thanks for that link. I know a formerly-bright guy with with Alzheimer's who was recently carted off to a nursing home, probably never to return.

The researchers "hope to get their human trials underway in 2017."

Screw that. If it seems to work in mice, test it in human volunteers NOW. Alzheimer's is a living death.

Regarding music using a different part of the brain, I highly recommend the documentary, available from Netflix streaming (hopefully still there), “Alive Inside”.

Here’s a clip:

Actually, it seems the whole thing is on YouTube:
