Carly Fiorina Really Was That Bad
NY Times ^ | 9/25/15 | Steven Rattner

Posted on 09/26/2015 1:58:06 PM PDT by jimbo123

HER silver tongue honed by decades in corporate marketing, Carly Fiorina has used two debates, and a steely determination on the campaign trail, to climb near the top of the polls for the Republican nomination.

But Americans should pause on her biggest professional credential for our highest office: a short, disastrous stint atop one of America’s iconic technology companies, Hewlett-Packard.

The clearest measure of her performance — and the report card preferred by Wall Street — is H.P.’s stock price, which dropped by 52 percent during her tenure of almost six years.

Yes, Mrs. Fiorina served during the worst fall in technology shares in history. But she managed to underperform her key competitors; IBM’s shares declined by 27.5 percent and Dell’s fell by 3 percent.

The most ruinous aspect of Mrs. Fiorina’s tenure was her decision to acquire another “old tech” hardware company, Compaq Computer Corporation, instead of moving more heavily into services and software, as IBM did.

Once the media and political establishment realizes Jeb isn’t going to win, wait for them to start pimping Rubio. Hard.

Did the Slimes write about Obummer in 2007 or 2008?

Maybe, but not one stinking word about his inexperience or his commie-bastard friends.

Investors were so down on her that H.P.’s shares jumped by almost 7 percent on the day of her firing. And in ensuing years, she appeared on several “worst C.E.O.” lists, including those of CBS News and USA Today.

Well she followed "the book" but I guess it wasn't enough.

2004: Hewlett-Packard [at the time] chief Carly Fiorina warned that "there is no job that is America's God-given right anymore." (The comment was in relation to outsourcing.)

As president she could quickly make up the difference. (Wow, does this make me a femalephobe?)

Some cheer and agree with "the book".. and love "Imported Productivity" and "income leakage" (for others) as long it leaks into their pockets.

Commenting on the "jobless" recovery an Oct 17th 2003 article in Morgan Stanley's Global Stephen Roach wrote of "Imported Productivity" and "income leakage" vis-à-vis the business cycle recovery (the one starting in late 2001) compared to recoveries of the past.

"The gap between the current cycle and the norm of earlier cycles works out to a shortfall of about $320 billion in real terms, or 4.4% of the current level of real disposable personal income...

"Sourcing demand through low-cost, offshore labor input has become an increasingly important tactic to enhance the operating efficiency of US businesses... the American workforce is not sharing the benefits."

I recall how Wall Street, et al. cheered home equity loans and soaring real estate prices for keeping the economy afloat back then. Then.. BOOM!

Fiorina can fight her own fights but Rattner is scum.

from NYT

Steven Rattner, the financier and former White House car czar, has agreed to pay $10 million to the state of New York as part of a settlement of a bitterly fought lawsuit filed by Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.

Cuomo, soon to be the governor of New York, last month sued Rattner alleging he paid kickbacks to obtain $150 million in pension-fund investments for Quadrangle Group, the private-equity firm co-founded by Rattner

In a news release today, Cuomo’s office said the $10 million is a “restitution to the State of New York.” Rattner also will be “banned from appearing in any capacity before any public pension fund within the State of New York for five years.”

Both Rattner and Cuomo had dug in their heels over the pension-kickback charges. Rattner said in a TV interview that the attorney general’s conduct in the case was “close to extortion.” Cuomo had been seeking Rattner’s lifetime ban from the securities industry in New York, a penalty Cuomo said was justified by the “fact that Rattner engaged in fraud and refused to answer 68 questions based on his fifth amendment privilege.”

Vicious, Leftist scum at that.

Fiorina was CEO from 7/99 to 2/05. In that interval, EMC and CSCO stock went down about the same %. Dell stock went down less because it had traditionally been the Toyota of the PC industry - low cost at industry-leading reliability levels. IBM went down less because it owned big iron, which was far more profitable than HP’s printer business and shed most its always too high-cost and blah quality PC business. Not a fan of Fiorina’s political stances, but she was basically a victim of the biggest bust the tech industry had ever encountered, thanks to the over-investment in the internet mania that preceded it.

“Carly = Victim?”

Sure. According to Warren Buffett, “With few exceptions, when a manager with a reputation for brilliance tackles a business with a reputation for poor fundamental economics, it is the reputation of the business that remains intact.” The computer business went through a major bust during her tenure. Plenty of established companies cratered during that time frame, including Nortel and Compaq, which was considered the leader among PC clones, for a time. I’d say Fiorina was average or above average, performance-wise.

That’s one of the political positions I disagree with. But her performance as CEO is quite distinct from her political stances.

MacArthur was completely surprised by the attack in the Philippines by Imperial Japan despite having heard about Pearl Harbor. Much of his failure there had to do with uncertainty about Japanese intentions. Yet he retained command of major forces in the Pacific theater and was given the opportunity to redeem himself, which he did, with his island-hopping campaign. Fiorina went through something similar in the business world, but never got a second chance. Overall, she put in an average or marginally above-average performance.

...HP’s stock dropped 52%...Fiorina took over at HP in 1999 - the NASDAQ, loaded with tech stocks, fell 60% in the spring of 2000, and only last year recovered to its previous high of over 5000 - to expect a second tier company like HP to perform at the level of an IBM or Dell is expecting the Harvard football team to play in the same league as the Patriots......

Heilemann Confirms: It Was Hillary Who Started Rumor Obama Not Christian
· by governsleastgovernsbest · 78 replies
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

John Heilemann was a rather reluctant witness. But when called on to testify, so to speak, Heilemann confirmed a stunning fact: that during the 2008 presidential race, it was Hillary Clinton who started the rumor that Barack Obama might not be a Christian. The matter arose when on today’s Morning Joe. Joe Scarborough ripped Hillary’s hypocrisy on Face the Nation yesterday for criticizing Republicans who question Obama’s religion, “when it all started with her and her campaign passing things around in the [2008] Democratic primary.” When Steve Rattner asked Heilemann, in his role as inside-campaign-baseball expert, to confirm whether Joe’s...

Steve Rattner’s Interesting Advice to Hillary: ‘Open the Kimono’· by governsleastgovernsbest · 42 replies
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein
We’ve got more than a year to go before the election. Even so, Steve Rattner has made a strong bid for most unusual metaphor of the political season. On today’s Morning Joe, Rattner said that when it comes to the email matter, Hillary needs to “open the kimono.” Rattner, a Hillary supporter, went on to indicate that she should turn over the server and take questions at length from reporters, as Chris Christie did regarding Bridgegate. Trump tells Steve Rattner: ‘You should have gone to prison’
· by 2ndDivisionVet · 83 replies
CNN Money ^ | July 27, 2015 | Ahiza Garcia

Presidential candidate Donald Trump is now taking on one-time Obama “car czar” Steve Rattner. On Monday, Trump fired off a tweet telling Rattner: “I think you should have gone to prison for what you did, I guess Obama saved you.” He ended the tweet telling Rattner to watch: “I will win!” It was unclear what activity Trump was referring to that should have landed Rattner in jail. Trump did not respond to CNNMoney’s request for comment. In 2010, Rattner did pay $10 million in fines when he settled with the New York state attorney general for his alleged involvement in a...

Mika Recruits Rattner To ‘Root’ For Elizabeth Warren AM · by governsleastgovernsbest · 17 replies
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

In her continuing campaign to promote Elizabeth Warren’s presidential prospects, Mika Brzezinski has attempted to recruit an unlikely ally: Steve Rattner. Rattner—President Obama’s former “car czar”—is an investment manager and what passes for a moderate in the modern Dem party. The notion that he would support leftist Elizabeth Warren in a Dem primary is far-fetched to say the least. But Mika told Rattner he would “root” for Warren “because you will do that for me.” A compliant Ratter replied that he would “do anything” for Mika. View the video here.

Looks like Fauxcahontas doesn’t want to debate Fiorina.
