In this recent USA Today op ed, I explain how the unexpected success of Donald Trumps presidential campaign is in large part the result of widespread political ignorance:
Despite some recent stumbles in his campaign, the most dramatic development of the 2016 presidential race has been the meteoric ascent of Donald Trump to the status of front-runner for the Republican nomination. Trumps rise is a particularly blatant example of a much deeper problem at the heart of modern democracy: widespread voter ignorance.
Trumps success so far is in large part the result of an almost perfect storm of political ignorance. As a longtime celebrity, he had a built-in advantage with voters who dont know much about politics
Polls also consistently show that Trumps support comes disproportionately from those with relatively low levels of education. For instance, a recent ABC/Washington Post survey found that 40% of Republican-leaning voters without college degrees support Trump, compared with only 19% of college graduates. Low education correlates with support for Trump far more than political ideology, or any other demographic variable. Education and political knowledge are not the same thing
Nonetheless, the two are highly correlated....

ah yes, more rubbish from the ComPost. They say this about every Republican voter btw.
This kind of article is written expressly for the low info/less educated voter, suggesting that only stupid ignorant people would support Trump; telling people that they wouldn’t want to be perceived as not one of the in set; not one of the smart sophisticated fashionable people. It is very clever really, and if repeated often enough generally works quite well. I was never MENSA eligible, but I did graduate from college, and I think Donald Trump just might make a very good president.
Oh ta ta ... la professora ‘Ilya’, she noes zee best for everyone no? Elle savoie ce qu’il est le mieuz pour tout le monde!
Blech! Ou est mon ‘barf bag’?
If this writer was less ignorant he would know that Trump also leads among the college educated. He leads by less because the number of undecideds is greater.
So a non ignorant analyst looking at the numbers would just conclude that the college educated take more time to settle on a candidate. It has nothing to do with Trump.
Another snotty liberal, worried about Donald Trump, so he brings out the tired refrain that Trump’s “supporters” and “would be voters” are uneducated and willfully ignorant, unlike the wonderful, enlightened supporters and would-be voters of Hillary or Bernie.
Give all of us a FReepin break from the arrogant buffoonery of this pompous ass and others of his ilk.
.
Is it me or does this guy have a vocabulary problem with his piled higher deeper degree?
It's not voter ignorance...it's politicians ignorance and lying.
What Trump and his advisers have done is inflict a Paradigm Shift on the political class, their MSM sycophants and K-Street financiers.
Actually voters have finally recognized and learned the facts about how the career politicians have sold out the American workers. That is why the “outsiders” are leading the polls.
You want to see ignorance, political and otherwise? Checkout Obama’s voters.
What a moron!
And another hoity-toity professor checks in....
He is the author of "The Grasping Hand: Kelo v. City of New London and the Limits of Eminent Domain" .
Oh, bullhockey. College graduates would naturally hesitate longer to make a decision, and might even be less willing to reveal who they prefer to a pollster. This is a meaningless inference from dubious statistics.
The “Professor” tells us all about it.
I’m Mensa allagibal. So’s my pal Leeroy.
Same media story every election going back decades: Republican candidates and their supporters are dumb as rocks. Democrat candidates are brilliant, sometimes too brilliant for people to understand.
Donald is a red neck, Donald is a red neck, ha ha ha, Donald is a red neck...
Also a lot of modern education is MISeducation. Those from conservative schools are, I betcha, warming up to Trump faster than those from liberal schools.
Didn’t the intrepid ms Coulter, in a sober moment, write a counter to a similar argument recently. I believe it was her, and she detailed the academic pedigrees of the various candidates.
It was rather amusing.
........
Ever want to have some fun with a lib who drones on and on how much smarter the academia and leftists are...
Ask them: Who was the first U.S. President with an MBA?
I generally jump in with an adjunct immediately before they can answer: I’ll give you a hint, it was a Harvard MBA.
Then sit back and enjoy the show.
Al Gore? [chortle]
What a ignorant jerk!
I graduated from college and spent 18 years on the California Republican Central Committee>
