Gingrich open to return to Speakership

Newt Gingrich said he would consider taking up the Speaker’s gavel again if called upon to by House Republicans.

The former Speaker initially denied any interest in a return to Congress, but when pressed in an interview with radio show host Sean Hannity on Thursday, admitted he would consider it if he had the votes.

Oh golly, I think you are upset. He balanced the budget as it is defined, not how you define it. SS has been robbed of its money since the year it started. SS is a pay as you go program, nothing more and nothing less. We all know that. And yes, SS benefits will have to be cut to save it. Most literate voters understand there is no money in the SS system, but these same voters keep on voting the same people in over and over again, so it looks like you have to face a harsh reality.

SS is merely just another government pay as you go program and all politicians from both sides are responsible for this. You need to recognize that it is not going to change and you need to make sure you save adequately for your own retirement. It isn't quite fair to single out one politician out of tens of thousands who have participated in this theft. The voters are OK with it. It is not a campaign issue this year. It has hardly been mentioned, so I have to assume most voters are OK with it being a pay as you go program.

I like Duncan Hunter, Sr. He didn't get anywhere in his run for President in 2008 - but I wonder if he would be up for the Speaker? (I just found out today they don't need to be in the House of Reps - that seems goofy to me...)

Excerpts:

Hunter became chairman of the House Armed Services Committee in 2002. Hunter offered an amendment to the bill clarifying enacted policy restricting women from direct combat units....

In a House Armed Services Committee hearing on November 9, 2005, Hunter strongly criticized a Defense Logistics Agency “prime vendor” buying program that led to the purchase of $20 ice cube trays and a tiny refrigerator for $22,797...

On April 25, 2007, after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid declared “the war is lost”, Hunter wrote “my highest obligation is, like yours, owed to our forces in uniform, especially during this time of war.... Given your position of leadership within the United States Government, I find your pronouncement of failure irresponsible and disserving to America's armed forces. In light of the fact that this statement has both been used by our adversaries and has exhibited a marked lack of leadership to U.S. troops, I call on you to resign your leadership position”.

Hunter introduced H.R. 552, The Right to Life Act, on February 2, 2005.

In 1994, Hunter legislatively mandated the construction of 14 miles (23 km) of security fencing on the international land border separating San Diego County and Tijuana, Mexico. In 2005, Hunter introduced legislation calling for the construction of a reinforced fence along the entire U.S.-Mexico border, citing crime statistics as measures of San Diego-Tijuana fence's success....He has said that if he becomes President, the 754-mile (1,213 km) double layer border fence will be built in less than 12 months.

Hunter repeatedly voted against international trade agreements such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

I refuse to mortgage my parents’ retirement and my family’s future for an amnesty and global warming loser like Gingrich.

Not going to happen. Get over it.

Trying to relive the 90s, huh? Is anyone from the cast of “Friends” up for it then?

I nominate Eddy Julio Martinez. WhoTF is he you ask?

“The Cubs have reached agreement with Cuban outfield prospect >>>Eddy Julio Martinez<<<. He’ll receive a $3MM bonus.”

We need fighters, not vestal virgins. Dave Brat is my first choice but Newt would be a fine choice as well.

I think I remember Newt having a womanizing problem which he took a lot of heat for. His first wife, it was reported, had breast cancer, and Newt told her he was leaving her while she was still hospitalized. It turned out that the 'hospital' story was a media fabrication. Newt took Clinton to task about his bimbo eruption even as Newt was porking his paramour.

That could be resurrected to make the GOP look like a bunch of hypocrites, which they seem to be.....at least many of them.

Why dont they pick Tom Delay?

The TX caucus has been significant in picking some leaders in congress.

"well he was the best SOTH in the last 50 years"

And look at all our "good guys" of that era that aren't worth a bucket of spit establishmentarians and are playing the K Street Game. For example; Boehner, Dick Armey, Trent Lott Haley Barbour.

No thank you I have had enough...

I also recall Newt having a cozy tete-a-tete with Princess Pelosi about climate change. There was a widespread photo of the happy couple.

Did you watch that video? That video torpedoes his entire career from then forward. It shows incredibly bad judgement and tone-deafness to the constituency.

Sorry, ‘party discipline’ is part of (if not THE) problem.

Party over substance, party over principle, party over the People.

I don’t know about you, but the LESS control = less illegal/unconstitutional BS coming from the halls of Congress; and I *like* that.

He did a commercial with Pelosi pimping global warming. Also when conservatives were upset over the GOPe closing Scozfava to run in New York, Newt was the one who was saying to conservatives “shut up and support her. Your betters are telling you to fall in line.”
She ended up endorsing the Democrat in that race.

Thanks, I was totally unaware that Congress could elect a Speaker from outside the House.

We all voted last November to Stop Obama.

That's not happening.

Newt's not perfect but who else will confront Obama like Newt would? No one is doing it now. You know anyone else that might even try to confront Obama? Newt thinks what Obama is doing is unconstitutional.

We need someone that will fight.

Draft Newt!

Agreed, but I think history has proven him wrong on the free trade accords. On second thought, I think I would only want Newt, if he has changed his views on trade policy.
