So the left is all abuzz over Ben Carsonâs 1998 speech in which he expressed an, admittedly, exotic view on the purpose of Egyptian pyramids. (This is a another hard-hitting click-bait piece by BuzzFeed cub reporter Andrew Kaczynski, so no link because I try not to reward bad behavior.)
At the 1998 commencement for Andrews University, a school associated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Carson also dismissed the notion that aliens were somehow involved in the construction of the pyramids.
âMy own personal theory is that Joseph built the pyramids to store grain,â Carson said. âNow all the archeologists think that they were made for the pharaohsâ graves. But, you know, it would have to be something awfully big if you stop and think about it. And I donât think itâd just disappear over the course of time to store that much grain.â
In the Old Testament, Joseph, one of the 12 sons of Jacob, is sold into slavery in Egypt by his jealous brothers. He eventually rose to become a top aide to the Egyptian pharaoh, advising him of a dream vision he had of coming years of famine in the ancient kingdom. Josephâs sage advice of the coming famine (and directions to store gain) helped the Egyptians survive the famine.
Carson said the design of the pyramids made clear they were for grain storage.
âAnd when you look at the way that the pyramids are made, with many chambers that are hermetically sealed, theyâd have to be that way for various reasons. And various of scientists have said, âWell, you know there were alien beings that came down and they have special knowledge and thatâs howââ you know, it doesnât require an alien being when God is with you.â

“Ben Carson is a nice guy who is right on a lot of the issues. But when he starts talking outside his medical field of expertise, he sounds like......an idiot. “
Johns Hopkins hires only the best doctors. We are not looking for a doctor. We are looking for our next POTUS.

I have to wonder if the Left is working to keep Carson on top so they have someone to easily tear apart later.

Yes. I would say that is the rather obvious tactic.
IMO, things haven’t been going well so far for the establishment media’s propping and picks. This ain’t 2008 or 2012. Any of the big 4 would make mincemeat of Hillary or whomever.
The left gets the goods and goes in for the kill, and all our side does is sit there and shake their fists at the screen and poo poo them for it...
Paging Mark Levin
Carson’s amnesty shilling berates himself.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to store the grain in places that are close to the people who need it? How does putting into giant pyramids in Giza make any sense at all?
Its funny. I remember back in the seventies guys at the office arguing about whether they were built by aliens. There was some book out arguing that a lot of the mega-wonders-of-the-world were built by ancient astronauts. Or something.
That is an excellent point. Then, of course, there’s the question of how large, elaborately constructed and artfully hidden burial chambers got into the grain-storage structures.
You picture the Egyptians sitting around and admiring how much grain they stuffed into their giant edifices. But one says, ‘There’s still some extra room. Let’s toss in a pharoah and some family members...you know, just to make full use of the space.”
It’s an asinine idea that deserves to be ridiculed for many reasons. If one insists on holding the view then they should be criticized.
It’s fair game and not meaningless as far as it speaks to the discernment of the brilliant doctor.
Apparently, we’re supposed to be all right with a crazy candidate because he’s *less* crazy than the leftists and his brand of crazy is less damaging than the opposition.
I would prefer a candidate that wasn’t crazy at all, but I’m crazy like that.
Yes, you’d think that his support for amnesty, gun control, his aligning himself with Sharpton, and his association with a Farrakhan supporter would be more than enough.
It certainly doesn’t seem as if he put much practical thought into the idea. If he’s going to double down on a kooky theory, then I agree; it’s fair game.
Trouble is that when it comes to religious theories, very smart people can believe some really dumb things.
But that is JMO.
“he expressed an, admittedly, exotic view on the purpose of Egyptian pyramids”
-—Exotic view? Are you for real? That’s not exotic, it’s down right nuts! People are really going to lose a lot of credibility defending this - especially with Christians!
That’s true. Otoh, there are a lot of religious people who don’t believe the pyramids were built for grain storage.
“By the time a single pyramid could have been started by Joseph”
-—Also, where would he have gotten the manpower? I mean, it took thousands of slaves to build one pyramid let alone all the ones that were built. It took slaves most of a Rulers reign to build/complete one, so it would have taken Joseph the life time of Methuselah (900 years) to do it
If someone is faced with the facts, and clings to their own delusions, that does speaks volumes about that person.
But it isn't as though he could have pleaded "My religion DEMANDS that I accept the doctrine that the pyramids were all built during the lifetime of Joseph - and not over a period of thousands of years - and by order of Joseph, in order to store grain, even though they offer virtually no storage capacity, each take about 20 years to build, etc."
His religion demands no such thing.
His 2015 response to the question should have been: "I am not an egyptologist, so anything I might say about the pyramids will probably be wrong - even laughable. Also: Such questions distract from the real issues, such as illegal aliens, budget deficits, etc. Next question!"
Or, if he had INSISTED upon responding, he should have said: "I am first going to enumerate the 37 fact-based reasons that the pyramids were actually used as TOMBS - and then refute, on the basis of geometric logic, each and every one of those arguments."
But he was too dumb to consider what effect his actual answer might have.
Regards,
The longer you think about it, the more absurd it becomes.
