Cruz: If Illegals Were Mostly Journalists, ‘We’d See Stories About the Economic Calamity’
National Review ^ | November 10, 2015 | Tom S. Elliott

Posted on 11/10/2015 10:03:46 PM PST by Isara

Watch the video at the link.

Senator Ted Cruz said tonight that if illegal immigrants were bankers or lawyers or taking jobs in America's newsrooms, "we would see stories about the economic calamity that is befalling our nation." Here's his full answer on immigration:

What was said was right, the Democrats are laughing because if Republicans join Democrats as the party of amnesty, we will lose. And you know, I understand that when the mainstream media covers immigration, it doesn't often see it as an economic issue. But I can tell you for millions of Americans at home, watching this, it is a very personal economic issue. And I will say the politics of it would be very, very different if a bunch of lawyers or bankers were crossing the Rio Grande. Or if a bunch of people with journalism degrees were coming over and driving down the wages in the press. Then we would see stories about the economic calamity that is befalling our nation. And I will say for those of us who believe people ought to come to this country legally and we should enforce the law, we're tired of being told, it is anti-immigrant. It's offensive.

I am the son of an immigrant who came legally from Cuba. To seek the American dream. And we can embrace legal immigration while believing in the rule of law. And I would note, try going illegally to another country. Try going to China or Japan. Try to go into Mexico. See what they do. Every sovereign nation secures its borders and it is not compassionate to say we're not going to enforce the laws and we're going to drive down the wages for millions of hard-working men and women. That is abandoning the hard-working men and women.

That was a nice line. Cruz is doing a good job of being the experienced track record true conservative candidate.
He’s well positioned.

If Carson and Trump supporters fall off, Cruz is a legit choice for them. An outsider with insider experience and a consistent conservative with a compelling personal story.

I think we saw Bush’s last stand tonight. He’s going to be at the kiddie table next debate.

Too little, too late, Ted.

Two years ago you tried to raise the H-1B quota by 500%.

One year ago you told the editorial board of the Union Leader newspaper in New Hampshire that you would not deport any illegal immigrants who had obeyed all other USA laws.

That's good.

I like Cruz but can't find out where he stands on what to do with illegals in the US now, 14th Amnd, anchor babies.

He also needs to change his stance on H1B visa increases and legal immigration quotas.

Best line of the debate, and exactly what I was thinking re: minimum wage.

The minimum wage is an affront to the laws of supple and demand. If we want to raise Americans out of poverty and raise wages, we must cut the endless supply of cheap labor.

It applies to low wage degreed visa workers too. I heard the line live last night and didn’t get to hear if he’d included that in his smack on the media.

This is disingenuous considering he wants to increase h-1B visas by 300%.

I couldn’t agree more. End the flood of cheap labor (legal or illegal) into the USA and allow the free market to serve citizen labor, and the need for minimum wage laws evaporates.
Funny (not ha ha) how the elites and puppet string pullers in
both Parties, and their MSM conveniently never mention that immigration can harm Americans in a declining job market. The commercial last night by NumbersUSA of a speech by Barbara Jordan -D was very effective.

It was a stunning, brilliant point to make, and was made well. I’d expect nothing less from Ted.
