Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson struggled Sunday to attach specifics to his plan to defeat the Islamic State militant group, vividly illustrating the former neurosurgeon's difficulty discussing foreign-policy matters.
Speaking on "Fox News Sunday," Carson could not name a specific country or leader he would call to assemble an international coalition to counter the Islamic State, despite being asked three times by host Chris Wallace.
"My point being that if we get out there and we really lead and it appears that we're making progress, that all of the Arab states and even the non-Arab states who are, I think, beginning to recognize that the jihad movement is global" will join, Carson said.
He suggested that he would shoot down a Russian plane if it violated a U.S.-led no-fly zone over Syria, even when told that the decision could prompt Russia to shoot down a U.S. plane in response.
"If they violate it, we will, in fact, enforce it. We'll see what happens. For us to always be backing down because we're afraid of a conflict, that's not how we became a great nation, Chris," he said.

If polls are to be believed, millions not only think he could be, but WANT him to be!
Are we still allowed to criticize Carson? Hopefully the fainting-couchers wont be too sore if anyone does.
Some on this site and some kind super sensitive souls, who are offended by Trump telling the truth.
Gravis Marketing poll just out has Ben at 7%. Just about right in my book. He has zero qualifications to be President.
That was just New Hampshire, unfortunately. Still a long ways to go elsewhere.
Obola’s plan is to give a limp-wristed speech expressing support to the afflicted country then fly off to California for a weekend of golf and fundraisers.
He’s done. Wait til the new polls come out next month. Carson will be way down.
Exactly and we don’t have to watch the debates to find out exactly what Hillary’s plan will be. We already know.
Ben Carson entered the race because he saw a need... after obama there is a humongous need... and there were so many calling for him to run. I give him credit for not just sitting on his rear and doing nothing.. he has tried. Whatever he is, or was, he didn’t act like congress does and no NOTHING. He got involved. If you don’t like him... and I doubt he’s up to the Presidency... he doesn’t deserve the ugly attacks.
Wallace was a hit man on Carson... he lit into him. I am of the opinion that until they take hillary on.. until they hit hillary with questions she has not had thrown at her.. until you take on obama and all he’s done... you don’t have the right to attack anyone. There are fish to fry that you have not touched.. and you give up your right to attack a man who has tried... Leave him alone.. he’ll have the decency and common sense to drop out when it’s time.
God help us when we are so screwed up that we can’t see what is important and who the enemy is. The enemy is not Carson... the enemy is the media and the left.. along with the GOP.
Trump and Cruz will carry on.. Dr Carson is a decent man who has saved many lives and is still using his money to educate some kids who need help. What is obama doing with his money? what is hillary doing with her money?
Dr Carson is getting a taste of the hate out there.. and it’s gotta be hard. Obama is idolized and Dr Carson has been attacked ... I hate that fact in our country.. that we are capable of that.
And this is news because?
How hard is to say “Kill them Chris, kill them all”
The future of our country is at stake. You may want a nice man as President to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but that is not what it will take for trans-formative change.
You think the media is going hard on Carson now? This makes me laugh. Wait till the democrats and their hundreds of millions of dollars in SUPER PAC money start destroying Carson. They’ll have rape and incest victims crying on TV ads about their attacks and how Ben Carson is telling them what they can do with their body.
They’ll go into his malpractice history and get the paralyzed and brain damaged patients on TV and say this is what Ben Carson did to me. They’ll run in a loop his most stupid statements about prison turning people gay, grain in the pyramids, knives and belt buckles.
They’ll run ads about him talking about shooting down Russian planes and run a Goldwater Daisy ad. Do you want Carson in charge of the nuclear button?
Get real people. Stop protecting your beloved Carson like he’s a little puppy dog. This is for the Presidency. This is for the big time. This is what vetting is all about.
“If polls are to be believed, millions not only think he could be, but WANT him to be!”
Based on that is poll numbers have been dropping lately, so less and less people want him to be President as the days go by.
Not a good one, or even an average one. The position is way above his pay grade. Nice man, apparently, but no where near presidential material.
Supposed to remember that he is black and a neurosurgeon. We’re not supposed to look beyond that, surely that is enough.
Amen to that brother.
“Carson could not name a specific country or leader he would call to assemble an international coalition to counter the Islamic State, despite being asked three times by host Chris Wallace.”
Notice how this is the Democrat premise in the first place, as if an international coalition is the only possible thing to say.
And how can any candidate say who would be in a coalition.
The person writing this article and the people asking Carson questions are idiots.
Exactly right. If there's any job in this world where 'nice guys finish last' is a completely true statement, it's this job. We don't need a nice guy, we need a pit bull.
I honestly don’t believe he was ever as high as they said he was. It was illogical based on what we were seeing in the public arena.
Carson simply isn’t that big a deal.
He wasn’t even campaigning and gaining ten points in a few days. My B. S. meter was pegged for most of the last three weeks.
