Obama urges world action on climate change: No nation ‘immune’ to global warming
Washington Post ^ | December 1, 2015 | Steven Mufson and Joby Warrick

Posted on 12/01/2015 2:48:16 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

PARIS - President Obama joined leaders from 150 nations on Monday in pledging action against climate change, kicking off a historic two-week gathering that Obama called a "turning point" in the battle against one of humanity’s gravest threats.

...."The growing threat of climate change could define the contours of this century more dramatically than any other," Obama said in a speech at the Le Bourget conference center in Paris’s industrial outskirts. "What should give us hope that this is a turning point, that this is the moment we finally determined we would save our planet."

Obama, who has staked his legacy on the fight against climate change, struck an ominous tone in describing the ravages of a warming planet, declaring that "no nation large or small, wealthy or poor, is immune." He urged the leaders to take action even if the benefits were not evident for generations...."

If the president and others truly believed this, then why has space access (technology and space resources development) been left to die on the vine and ridiculed by leftist academia?

"...Berry wrote his essay about the downside of space colonization in the 1970s. But his views are not necessarily out of date. environmentalists might argue today that the case Berry made against space colonization is even more relevant today than it was in the 1970s."

..The ideas of frontier pioneering, continual progress, manifest destiny, free enterprise, and rugged individualism have been prominent in the American national narrative, which has constructed and maintained an ideology of "Americanism"- what it means to be American and what America is meant to be and do. in exploring the history of U.S. spaceflight, it is useful to consider how U.S. space advocacy movements and initiatives have interpreted and deployed the values and beliefs sustained by this national narrative.

The aim here is to illuminate the role and function of ideology and advocacy in the history of spaceflight by examining the rhetoric of spaceflight advocacy. Starting from the premise that spaceflight has played a role in the American national narrative and that this national narrative has played a role in the history of spaceflight, this paper examines the relationship between spaceflight and this narrative.

Examining the history of spaceflight advocacy reveals an ideology of spaceflight that draws deeply on a durable American cultural narrative-a national mythology-of frontier pioneering, continual progress, manifest destiny, free enterprise, rugged individualism, and a right to life without limits. This ideology rests on a number of assumptions, or beliefs, about the role of the United States in the global community, the American national character, and the "right" form of political economy.

According to this ideology, the United States is and must remain "number one" in the world community, playing the role of political, economic, scientific, technological, and moral leader. That is, the United States is and must be exceptional. This ideology constructs Americans as independent, pioneering, resourceful, inventive, and exceptional, and it establishes that liberal democracy and free-market capitalism (or capitalist democracy) constitute the only viable form of political economy.

The rhetoric of space advocacy exalts those enduring American values of pioneering, progress, enterprise, freedom, and rugged individualism, and it advances the cause of capitalist democracy....."

Visions of the human colonization of space present a “moral law of the frontier” that is disturbing, Berry concludes: this law is that “humans are destructive in proportion to their supposition of abundance; if they are faced with an infinite abundance, then they will become infinitely destructive."....

2010: Obama and His Administration Lament America's Superpower Status "....The Obama administration's top science and technology official, who has argued for the economic de-development of America, warned science students last Friday that the United States cannot expect to be "number one" forever. "We can't expect to be number one in everything indefinitely," Dr. John P. Holdren said at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)......"

That would put the AAAS into an AAAS hole, wouldn’t it? Second best, or worse?

Keep on doing that to your credibility, guys. Perhaps something better will arise from these bitter ashes, sufficiently chastised.

I agree completely.

Even George Noory just agreed with his guest, who said this “climate change” nonsense is a misdirection.

What the world should be paying attention to is pollution. Not “climate change”.

Why? Because they don’t believe in striking out in hope in any direction. They just believe in doomsday moping right here where we are, underscored by massively funded futility.

The premature ballyhooing of the CFL bulb, which there shouldn’t be any problem with enlightened people choosing, but is a big problem forcing on people who just don’t want it, is now a big part of a pollution picture that probably won’t come completely into focus for many years, by which time we’ll find ourselves with a spike in the presence of mercury in our lives and no other way to explain it.

How many of the 150 nations are in it for the money? How many are exempt from new CO2 standards? How many see this event as an opportunity to demand retribution from developed countries?

We have experienced climate change since the beginning of time. Mankind has nothing to do with climate change. It is caused by the Sun.

President Obama joined leaders from 150 nations on Monday in pledging action against climate change; action that is just plain stupid.

We don’t have anything that says what the solar output even was, prior to the days of modern telescopic observation, a few hundred years. Well, at least not with modern science now, although perhaps with sufficient cleverness something might be thought up, such as differential effects on atmospheric isotopes under a standard old-earth model. The problem with modern science is that it tends not to look where modern scientists don’t want it to be looking.

Yes, and that Sun could rain down an enormous amount of "global warming" when Our Lord decides to purify.

We may be on the cusp of a period of serious global cooling, predicted by scientists studying the relationship between climate and Sun activity.

The studies supporting man caused global warming are utter nonsense, that is, assumptions, data, and methodology are all suspect.

Did you see the photo of Obummer yesterday in the crowd of world leaders, sporting the biggest Sambo smile he could muster, while the other world leaders had a look of seriousness on their faces.
What an embarrassment that guy is.

OK!! Everybody pay attention!

Lesson for today:

1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.

2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls the climates of all its planets.

3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.

4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.

5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.

Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

It's about containing and diminishing free markets, the U.S. Constitution, advancing the transfer of wealth and promotion of socialism through scientific fraud.

**************

Lysenkoism is also used metaphorically to describe the manipulation or distortion of the scientific process as a way to reach a predetermined conclusion as dictated by an ideological bias, often related to social or political objectives.

.... Support from Joseph Stalin gave Lysenko even more momentum and popularity. In 1935, Lysenko compared his opponents in biology to the peasants who still resisted the Soviet government's collectivization strategy, saying that by opposing his theories the traditional geneticists were setting themselves against Marxism.

Stalin was in the audience when this speech was made, and he was the first one to stand and applaud, calling out "Bravo, Comrade Lysenko. Bravo." This event emboldened Lysenko and gave him and his ally Prezent free rein to slander the geneticists who still spoke out against him. Many of Lysenkoism's opponents, such as his former mentor Nikolai Ivanovich Vavilov, were imprisoned or even executed because of Lysenko's and Prezent's denunciations...."

New York Attorney General Tries to Criminalize Scientific Dissent on Climate Change

"Everyone reading this should do the attorney general of New York, Eric T. Schneiderman, a big favor: buy a copy of the U.S. Constitution, highlight the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights with a bright yellow or orange Sharpie, and mail him a copy.

Schneiderman obviously needs a remedial lesson in the fact that the government is banned from censoring or restricting speech, and certainly has no business "investigating" Americans, including corporations, for their views on - of all things - a contentious scientific theory.

The New York Times is reporting that Schneiderman has subpoenaed extensive financial records, emails and other documents of Exxon Mobil to investigate whether the company "lied to the public about the risks of climate change or to investors about how such risk might hurt the oil business." In addition to ignoring the First Amendment, Schneiderman is apparently unaware that the claim that the world is endangered by a warming climate is a scientific theory, not a proven fact. There is dissention in the scientific community about this theory, and robust debate about both the temperature evidence and computer models on which the theory is based.....

One wonders whether General Schneiderman realizes that he seems to be following the Soviet technique of having the government interfere in science and prosecute anyone who doesn't agree with the theory most in vogue with politicians and the state. Joseph Stalin was infamous for his direct involvement in academic disputes in areas ranging from linguistics to physics. According to "Stalin and the Soviet Science Wars," a 2006 book published by the Princeton University Press, he only "called off an effort to purge Soviet physics of 'bourgeois' quantum mechanics and relativity" as the Soviets were developing their first atomic bomb. Aleksandr Solzhenistsyn's book, "In the First Circle," was all about the Soviet government's suppression of scientists and engineers with the wrong scientific views.

Besides the dangers of criminal or civil charges being lodged against these companies, the other obvious result of such investigations, which may be their intent, is to chill the speech and advocacy of any "bourgeois" who disagrees with the so-called "consensus" that the climate change theory is real and that it is human activity that is the main cause of the world warming up by a miniscule amount. Exxon Mobile already may have been deterred since its spokesman said that it stopped funding any groups doing research on climate change in the middle of the past decade "who were making the uncertainty of the science their focal point.".....

You comply or you face their wrath:

June 2015 - The Daily Caller: Valerie Jarrett Secretly Lobbying Big Corporations To Support UN Climate Talks

"White House Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett is quietly working behind the scenes to build a coalition of major U.S. corporations to back President Barack Obama's goal of hashing out a global agreement to cut greenhouse gas emissions at the upcoming United Nations summit in Paris.

The Daily Caller News Foundation obtained a letter that outlines how, by the end of June, Obama is looking to build a coalition of businesses to show support for UN climate talks. After that, the White House will then try to grow this group of businesses to 250 in the run up to the Paris talks this November.

The way the letter is written, it's likely being circulated by someone or some group on behalf of the White House. The source could not disclose who was circulating the letter on the White House's behalf, but did confirm the business they work for was approached to support the Paris climate talks......."

Nov 30, 2015 - Slate: Bill Gates Is Finally Tackling Climate Change. That's Good News for the Climate

"At the same time, Gates is spearheading something called the Breakthrough Energy Coalition, a group of 28 private investors who will commit various amounts of their respective fortunes to clean energy ventures, provided the governments follow through on their promises. Gates is personally pledging to invest $1 billion, while others have not yet announced the size of their contributions. Among the tech magnates participating are Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon's Jeff Bezos, Virgin's Richard Branson, Alibaba's Jack Ma, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise's Meg Whitman, LinkedIn's Reid Hoffman, and SalesForce's Marc Benioff. More are expected to sign on in the days to come.

Gates' leadership here is significant. He and his wife, Melinda Gates, have built the world's largest private foundation, and they've dedicated their efforts in developing countries to fighting poverty and disease. Perhaps belatedly, Gates appears to be recognizing that climate change could undo all of that good work....

Gates' charitable efforts in some fields, including U.S. education, have been criticized by some as naive and misguided. (Zuckerberg, too, has misfired on education funding.) But his technocratic approach could be a breath of fresh air in the climate battle, which is too often viewed as a zero-sum conflict: between energy producers and environmentalists, government regulators and private industry, rich countries and poor countries........"
