It’s Time for a Grown-Up Alternative to Trump’s Crude Muslim-Immigration Proposal
NRO ^ | December 8th, 2015 | by Mark Krikorian

Posted on 12/08/2015 4:11:30 PM PST by Mariner

Donald Trump has again succeeded in setting the terms of political debate, this time by calling for a temporary halt to the admission of all Muslims from abroad, whether as immigrants or as visitors (“nonimmigrants” being the technical term). Everyone’s outraged, of course, but this is a topic that needs to be addressed head-on.

First of all, it’s important to underline that Congress can exclude or admit any foreigner it wants, for any reason or no reason.

Non-Americans have no constitutional right to travel to the United States and no constitutional due-process rights to challenge exclusion; as the Supreme Court has written multiple times, “Whatever the procedure authorized by Congress is, it is due process as far as an alien denied entry is concerned.”

What’s more, while the president doesn’t have the authority that Obama has claimed, to let in anyone he wants for any reason (under the guise of “parole”), he does have the statutory authority to keep anyone out, for any reason he thinks best. From 8 USC §1182:

Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate (emphasis added).

Excellent Article by NRO that supports Trumps position in essence.

But they could not resist calling Trump crude and juvenile.

Trump said this was to assess the situation and decide what to do next. Lo and behold everyone has ideas on what to do next.

So where is the problem? Thank goodness for Trump.

Kirkorian is just cranky that Trump got all the glory, even though he’s been pounding the “limit immigration” drum for years. Still, he’s inculcated with the NRO hate-Trump virus. Learn nothing from NRO, except how not to behave.

The grown up was the one that made a big deal of this yesterday, the day before the House passed a bill along the lines of what he suggested.

Other than that, the writer has it fairly right.

Typical of NRO’s smug and condescending attitudes. I wonder what’s their latest grown-up egghead scheme to fix healthcare?

Has everyone forgotten the age old technique of negotiating?
What do you do when negotiating, right from the start?

You ask for MORE than you want.
Now, lets negotiate.

What does Mr. Trump do, right from the start?
He asks for more than he wants.

I just saw Krauthammer working himself in to a frothing at mouth diatribe against Trump. He called Trump’s proposal “deeply bigoted...” and went on to say that it would be impossible to implement.

Maybe someone should ask Krauthammer if Israel’s tough border policies, and preventing Muslim immigration into Israel is deeply bigoted. Israel controls its border pretty effectively with soldiers, fences, and walls. It openly profiles Muslims who travel on El Al, monitors mosques.

I guess according to Krauthammer and a lot of pro-Israel people, the US shouldn’t be allowed to defend itself and its people.

And .. I think Trump’s statements about stopping Muslims from coming to America (at least for awhile), is very grown-up and looking straight at the issue.

Which very, very few other people are willing to do.

Funny thing about Krikorian-that is an Armenian name.

As in the 1.5 million Armenians killed by Turkish Muslims in the first genocide of the 20th Century, 100 years ago.

Krauthammer is a dweeb. He is a democrat who became republican but didn’t change his thinking much.

I saw Krauthammer also.

He was all wee-weed up about Trump’s effect on the “discourse”.

Who the hell cares?

Kraut worried how it would be implemented.

How does Krauthammer think our present vetting system works now?

What a schtick this guy has.

"My question is if they say they aren’t Muslim, what then?"

The burden of proof is on the prospective immigrant.

Please present us with reasonable evidence you are either Christian or Jew.

Sure, some Jihadis would still be able to get in under deep cover.

But the river of support they would be able to swim in would be FAR smaller.

Trump once again, initiates Americans talking about a subject which is important.

So true. The lazy ass MSM thinks it provides campaign coverage by pushing a bunch of useless polls. It's easy to do and the MSM is lazy. Those sorts of non-article articles fill the pages of the press like excelsior around their real content, which is the ads.

Trump comes in and says, in effect, "here's what I think about x", where "x" is some third-rail topic not usually engaged in by the chattering classes.

The chattering classes react in horror 'tut tutting' about how Trump is so very uncivil. A week's worth of headlines and press is generated. Trump's numbers go up, much to the chagrin of the CC who are clueless at to what just happened. Trump has spent virtually no cash in the effort.

It's guerrilla campaigning at its finest.

I didn't see that.
I did see a whole lot of loud mouthed RINO’s being exposed.

Krauthammer is still seemingly stuck on stupid, as to how it would even be possible to round up and deport 11 million illegals.
(the real number is upwards of 30 million)

The answer is pretty obvious.
Think ebay/facebook/twitter points.

The problem for the Feds would be to determine who get’s the finders fee.
Call it at $5.00 a pop bounty.
China, India, Nigeria and Russian techies would be direct foreign competition to USA nationals in accomplishing the task.

I bet the international community would win that race...LOL!
