Sen. Ted Cruz said Tuesday he opposes granting legal status to the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States, significantly hardening his stance on immigration.
Cruz has repeatedly sidestepped the question of what to do with undocumented immigrants currently living in the country, asserting that the U.S.-Mexico border must be secured before addressing the issue. A plan for what to do with undocumented people living in the country was conspicuously absent from an immigration proposal Cruz unveiled last month.
It is the farthest Cruz has gone on the issue, and the answer came during the Republican debate in an exchange with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla)., with whom Cruz has repeatedly tangled over the issue of immigration.

I’ve said that when/if you give these invaders any semblance of legal status that is not already addressed in US law (e.g., temporary worker permits, etc.) you run the risk of giving them status as pseudo-citizens. Their very first argument in a class action suit would be that they as a group have ‘standing’ for a complaint under the Constitution, probably Amendment 14 equal protection clause.
If they’re here as a temporary worker, they should have to go home at regular intervals and should receive no US entitlements.
If we can’t do something like that, then throw them out. If that causes me to have to pay $5 for a tomato or lettuce, I’ll gladly pay it to get rid of them.
What’ya think?
This is what a ‘G’ OP primary is supposed to be about — candidates convincing republicans that they agree with republican concerns.
No matter what a candidate’s position was prior to the primary, it shifts. The Beltway cobwebs get cleared from his head. [Hopefully.]
We finally have a proper primary, thanks to both Cruz and Trump.
undocumented, for cryi8ng out loud they are ILLEGAL.
Typical left wing crap. Never call something what it really is and take a word to put more of a positive spin on it.
Amnesty, dream act.
illegals, undocumented
homosexuals, gay
global warming, now climate change.
it goes on and on with these blithering idiots and our side actually repeats their words like sheep.
I think he's going to get ripped to shreds by the media, we'll have to see. I heard someone claim that Megyn Kelly was already calling Cruz out as lying about his past support for legalization-- which is true, but also means the media might not be too interested in propping Cruz up as a not-Trump if they're willing to air the obvious. Team Rubio is also probably furious over the denials last night.
Looks like you found Cruz’s achilles heel — in immigration of all things!
Legislation gets so confusing these days.
This is the discussion to which I refer. Trump’s ‘heel’ is in much worse shape. Just sayin’ ...
I didn’t watch the debate last night, couldn’t bear the thought of listening to Jeb, Carly or Rubio.
I did check out part of the after debate stuff.
Ted Cruz actually called them Illegal Aliens, not undocumented immigrants.
I had to rewind it twice to make sure I heard right.
First time in years I have heard anyone call them by the right designation.
Not sure it would be a class action but equal protection would certainly be the argument, and they would probably prevail.
They’d start out in as individual cases in EVERY Federal District. The SC would then aggregate them by picking the case with the best argument and hear that one and let the decision apply to all of them. So, it would be class-action in the end.
The media doing their job for a change? Immigration is The Issue this election so vetted Cruz on this is the right thing to do.
