It Has Come to This (Donald Trump, for all of his flaws, must do.)

The United States of America that we grew up in, and in some cases fought for - no longer exists. I would like to write something stirring in defense of our Constitution, but it isn't under attack. It is simply ignored.

-snip-

I am tired of being told by Barack Obama on the one hand, and Bill O'Reilly on the other, what my American values are or ought to be. I can work those out for myself. I am tired of living in the dumping ground for whatever group of hostile immigrants the social engineers in Washington import to ease their guilty consciences. Let them move their Mexican underclass and angry Syrian colonists to Martha's Vineyard or Marin County north of San Francisco.Maybe this would help our legislators and "opinion makers" alleviate a bit of their never-ending narcissistic angst.

-snip-

To be quite honest, I have no particular love for Donald Trump -- but he is what we have. He doesn't speak well. I don't think he has any idea what a republic is. Then again, his last two predecessors didn't really understand the concept of a republic either. No doubt it's not a word they use at Harvard. Although I may not especially like the erratic, often juvenile Mr. Trump, it isn't lost on me that he at least doesn't hold me in contempt.

-snip-

I would prefer to have a genuine conservative candidate to vote for, and will probably vote for Cruz if he looks viable enough. But if Donald Trump is what it has come to -- I will happily take the risk and check the box next to his name.

Wow. It's not often I agree with nearly 100% of a political column.

Damning with faint praise.

How about we have a few primaries first?

Have to agree. Trump makes me wary because I’m not sure of his motives, but almost no one else will stand up and say what needs to be said. They all had a chance for years and haven’t done it.

Exactly. Trump, for all his flaws, is the only one who can trump Hillary.

what I'm not sure of is his (Trump's) motives.

I'll disagree here. Maybe it comes from being in his age group, and sharing the same frustrations Trump feels about how badly the US has declined since the early 1960s.

He's a father and grandfather now. There's no doubt he worships those kids. He wants the nation to be saved, for them. He's succeeded by being a just like in the old days independent thinker who knows how to put an empire together. His ego will not allow him to sell out....he'll want to be the best President ever, the one the history books will say saves the US. He is the polar opposite of all of his age compatible political peers (FWIW, Jeff Sessions seems to be the exception in DC)who've gotten rich, greedy, dishonest, and compromised by their lust for power.

Another thing is that Trump has a sense of humor. Nobody is going to save the US if they aren't playful with ideas and not afraid to entertain an original thought and maybe turn what starts out as a silly sounding idea into something original that works.

Not one of those others is at that point in life. Think of it this way. Would Trump have been there at the age Cruz is now? Not a chance.

I, for one, am getting tired of the pundits I’ve been reading or hearing and their ‘damn with faint praise attitude ‘....!!!!!!!

Trump could be resting on his laurels the remainder of his days and
.....’in a gated, crime free community’ ......
No......he has chosen to stick his neck out.....literally....... Day after day, 24/7

What is in it for him?
Turning America Great Again by using every ounce of his intelligence, experience, power, money and our votes!
he wants to ...give back!

I really want to say to this Cadwehler whatever his name is......’don’t bother’...
....because Donald is doing this for ME and all patriots who appreciate someone standing up for us....

We don’t need Cad’s whining over Trump’s imperfections
They all.....all the candidates have imperfections.
But we’re suppose to feel grateful this guy has seen the light as he ridicules Trump in the process.
I think not!

I’m voting for Cruz.

We surrender to MSM and GOPe manipulation if we decide who is “viable” before a single vote has been cast. Not saying they are for Trump, but they do manipulate the polling. MANY times polling has been wrong, especially early polling.

Vote for the true conservative.

I want to hear the candidates address the issue of crime in America.

Since the 1960s, the justice system has sided with the criminals. As a result, the average person is forced to turn their homes into fortresses. Children are no longer able to play in the streets near their homes, or in the local parks because they have been taken over by drug dealers, gangs, and the "homeless."

I am tired of murderers spending 20+ years on "death row" as their taxpayer funded lawyers file countless appeals.

I think many of the problems America faces today will disappear if Trump upholds his vow to send illegals home. But I believe the criminal justic esystem is broken, and needs to be fixed if America is ever to be right again.

Let's see...
  1. Denial
  2. Anger
  3. Bargaining
  4. Depression
  5. Acceptance
Sounds like the author is moving from 4 to 5. Whatever works. Americans and authentic American culture have always been regarded by the self-anointed elite as "uncouth", "coarse", "naive", "loud", and a host of other less-flattering adjectives throughout our history. It's been so long since an authentic American has campaigned for President that we've forgotten what we actually look like.

Trump is a quintessential American: brash, self-confident, optimistic, and decisive. His appearance on the political scene is the natural product of decades of attempts by the elite to "tame" American culture into some sort of Euro-light effete mush.

"This isn't supposed to work", is the last refrain of those who belatedly realize that the Spirit of America is a force of nature that will not conform to proscribed norms and committee-approved rules. But that's precisely why Trump has caught the imagination of millions.

Respect. You support a candidate, express why, and honor Reagan’s 11th commandment in one post.

Tip of hat.

I support Trump, but Cruz is AOK for me too.

As much as it pains me to say this, Cruz I s no match for Hilary. He will only get the base to vote for him. That will not be enough. Trump will get all spectrum of votes and will probably even win New York against Hilary. Trump will destroy her and she knows it.

Who here is confident Donald Trump will appoint true conservatives to the SCOTUS? Isn’t that one of the most important roles of the POTUS?

Ronald Reagan’s “flaws” weren’t really flaws, motion picture actor being chief among these. Most of Trumps “flaws” fall into a similar category, such as “casino owner.” If Trump does ONE thing as president, and that is banish political correctness forever to the dustbin of history, he will have succeeded.
