Donald Trump’s provocative first TV ad raises the temperature of GOP race
Washington Post ^

Posted on 01/03/2016 7:09:05 PM PST by springwater13

Donald Trump's ad begins with a shot of President Obama and Hillary Clinton. Then comes a U.S. battleship launching a cruise-missile strike. From there it moves swiftly through an explosive montage: The suspects in the recent California terrorist attack. Shadowy figures racing across the U.S.-Mexico border. Islamic State militants.

The narrator, a deep-voiced man, speaks ominously: "That's why he's calling for a temporary shutdown of Muslims entering the United States, until we can figure out what's going on. He'll quickly cut the head off ISIS and take their oil. And he'll stop illegal immigration by building a wall on our southern border that Mexico will pay for."

The spot closes with the image of Trump thundering at one of his rallies, "We will make America great again!"

The Republican presidential candidate’s long-awaited and hotly anticipated first ad, which was shared exclusively with The Washington Post, is set to launch Monday as part of a series that will air in the final month before the Iowa caucuses. Trump has vowed to spend at least $2 million a week on the ads — an amount that will be amplified by the countless times they are likely to be played on cable news and across social media.

...Trump has vowed to spend at least $2 million a week on the ads...

Jeb!, and others (??), are dropping their ad buys when they fall in the polls or exit the race.

Trump gets the time slots he wants, at a discount to original list!

Art of the Deal.

Correcting the ‘ and/or “ would sure make your post more readable.

Is that the true text of what they’re saying in that ad? I like Cruz (for VP), but the ad is a bit creepy. Reminds me some of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker in the old days of PTL Club.

Trump has a comfortable lead. There is no need to attack the other Republicans when that might actually whittle his lead

It is also probable that his general election attack might find favorability with more voters than an attack on Republicans. The positive themes have proven successful so far

I can’t wait, and I mean I can’t wait for the New York polling to come in. I think New Yorkers will come out in mass for him.

You are missing a very important point here. If Trump had been listened to when he first said “take the oil” ISIS may never have had the financial basis from which to form and grow.

In his 2011 book, Time to Get Tough, Trump explains, “We should take the oil. And here’s why: because the Iraqis won’t be able to keep it themselves.” I would call that prescient. And mind you, he believed that his plan would actually help the legitimate Iraqi government. Instead of losing their oil because of their military weakness, we would “protect and control the oil fields,” while sharing the profits with them. They would have gotten something from the wells now controlled by ISIS, while Trump argues that it is moral that they pay part of the cost with the oil of our liberating them from Hussein. It seems to me that the Iraqis would have been much better off if Trump’s plan had been implemented in 2011 with us administering those wells for them rather than ISIS.

I find it difficult to believe that taking oil fields from ISIS now is a morally bad thing. The only thing I worry about is the difficulty in taking them over at this point.

I posted that same thing, almost word for word, several days ago and was told I was wrong....that ad buys had to be made months ago....no refunds, etc.

Not sure if the reply poster was correct, or not.

Cruz should be on the Supreme Court... Maybe VP until an opening comes up... but his mind - his convictions and intellect... really the Supreme Court is the place for Cruz.

I’m a Trump first person... Cruz second...

“It is a fact that Cruz released the raw footage.”

Thank you for posting that! It’s a fact also, that Cruz really doesn’t see or realize the creep factor in this collection that he put out to be used in his campaign ads. I think that’s because he’s been a part of that sort of environment. He and Heidi sound for all the world like “wayfers”. Only one of them, former or active, would know what I mean by that. Only someone who has had to deal with that particular kind of problem as I have would understand the instant aversion when watching the footage.

I’m not gloating over this because I happen to be a Trump supporter. I really started out with huge respect for Ted Cruz. I just didn’t see him as Presidential material. I so wish that he had taken another tack in his campaign. Too many people have had bad experiences with those who make a public spectacle of their faith for various reasons.

....that ad buys had to be made months ago....no refunds, etc.

That begs the question>why is Jeb! dropping Ad buys if the campaign does not get a refund??
Just let the ads roll.

Maybe there’s a secondary market where a broker buys and sells ad time????

I also read, maybe from a journolist who does not know, that all the “good” time spots are bought up. The theory was Trump is frozen out of the “good” spots because he did not buy early in the cycle.

I guess the future will unfold, and reveal all

Love to see you channeling Trumps butt hurt.

It means Cruz is hooking into the right power stream.

Cruz = victory

Trump = deja vu all over again. (McCain, Romney, Dole, Ford, Perot)

Trumps butt hurt???

His butt isn't the one hurting at the moment. That ass belongs to Bill Clinton. A female reporter asked him today if his history is fair game in the campaign, and it visibly rattled him.

Who pray tell was able to bring this 20 year old issue to the fore? Cruz? Nope. Donald did in a masterful counter attack that has virtually eliminated the Hildabeast “You are a sexist” women's card.

Cruz will make a fine VP, and given some time with Trump will gain some of Trump's charisma. Sooooo.... Remove your head from your posterior and wait the two terms it will be before it is Cruz in the big boy chair. He is too young at this point.

President Cruz will not be eligible to serve as a vice president after completing his second term in 2024.

Just a heads-up, b9.

Your Trump vote on today's caucus thread was invalid:

DoughtyOne wrote:

PLEASE DO NOT MAKE YOUR POST BOLD, A DIFFERENT FONT SIZE, OR ADD PUNCTUATION. DON'T ADD TEXT, LIKE "Vote Name, of course".

I do not wish to invalidate anyone's vote, but your creativity leads to others wanting to be creative. Be creative on other threads if you value your vote.

To Vote: pick from the candidates here, and type "Vote" and the "Name" as it appears here. You're vote should look just like one of these selections.

Vote Trump

You posted Vote TRUMP.

You can check with DoughtyOne, but I'm pretty sure it's invalid:

DoughtyOne wrote: If you have questions, FReep Mail me. DO NOT disqualify your vote by posting anything other than votes on the thread. No exceptions.

You can vote again, since you haven't really voted.
